so basically Tommy has no fucking idea what his movie was about and can't defend it at all, but laughs it off as if he fucking nailed every question. i love this guy so much, and almost not even ironically, I just appreciate that someone like him exists
Tommy really embraced the theater version and the cult classic it's become. That's really cool of him, and he is basically saying, "Come see my movie at the theater with screaming crazy fans and join the party!"
You gotta love this guy, just casually making stuff up as he goes, completely ignoring how ridiculous it makes him look or what the actual facts are. He should be president.
He's right about the two cameras. The movie being filmed simultaneously at slightly different angles by two cameras, both copies can be used together to create a real 3D version of The Room.
The lighting considerations make that possibility difficult. Sandy Schklair (the unacknowledged director of the room) lit for the 35MM camera. They could do correction for it, but the film just isn't that dynamic visually for it to be worth 3D process.
Tommy Wiseau is that one kid you knew in school who started in 9'th grade but was 2 years older than everyone else. He'd hang out with everyone but never make any "real" friends and you just never quite knew what his deal was. He always had these grandiose plans that never seemed to came to fruition. Even though you managed to keep in touch with most of your classmates after graduation, no one knows what happened to Tommy. Rumors swirl about him being incarcerated, joining the Foreign Legion, living in the Philippines or killed by Eastern European drug dealers.
He reminds me of the handicapped kid who could always make anyone laugh, and was just a genuinely fun guy to be around. But god help you if you found yourself hanging out alone with him....
Max Johnson NEVER Sacha Cohen is a brilliant genius writer producer actor he is legit Tommy is a character who got lucky for being the opposite and a liar and kinda shady. Also hes genuinely nuts and deluded...and not the brightest bulb. Come on really you cant be serious
weenore I mean, by all accounts Tommy was a penniless Polish-French immigrant when he came to America. However he came by the money, the fact that he somehow managed to become a millionaire is rather impressive.
@53:22 Tommy: "I grew up with family, again New Orleans, EUROPE, whatever..." HE REVEALED FOR THE FIRST TIME WHERE HE"S FROM, YEARS BEFORE THE JIMMY KIMMEL SHOW!!! THAT"S HUGE!!! :o
That was awesome! Here's what strikes me about Tommy Wiseau after listening to this terrific interview: Tommy made a movie HIS way, with HIS own money. But even when a caller told him his movie sucks, he took it in stride and handled himself with class - even going as far as saying the caller was a nice guy". Remarkable. Yes, Tommy is strange and has a unique perspective and approach to film-making. But stupid, he is not. To create a movie from scratch - almost all by himself - is an undertaking of incredible difficulty. Promotion, creation, organization. I can assure you, there's only a relatively small number of people that would even ATTEMPT such a project, even if they had the money to do it. So you may think he's an idiot, a creep, or a crazy bastard, but consider this - his goal when he started was to become famous as an actor and director, and guess what? HE IS!! And don't tell me you don't want to buy one of those footballs!! Pure genius.
Very great interview. I thought it would be awkward. They are giving him respect while carefully balancing it with being patronizing. Tommy might not know exactly what is going on, but he's not dumb, either. So, kudos to this interview tactic. It worked on every level and got answers out of Tommy that he doesn't usually give.
Nick Jasper I agree that it was accurately balanced between slight tease and playful respect. But sometimes you can feel that interviewer is pushing it further and definitely making fun of Tommy, wonder if Wiseau realizes that.
We know Tommy is...weird, is ok to make fun of that, but english is like his third or fourth language, making fun of someone who might dont understand what you are saying, is a dick move, and a lot of people does that to Tommy in interviews.
Tommy is a genius. It's great to see a guy chase a dream and achieve it. The Room is a "bad" movie, but it gets a reaction. Film is meant to entertain. And that's exactly what The Room does. It's not thought provoking, well in a sense it is. But it has an impact. I salute that crazy guy!
Jeffrey Dunn I agree, he put alot of energy and dedication into his film career...I don't know too many people who actually wrote and produced an entire movie
Dear Sam! I'm sorry if I repeat myself, but it seems that my first comment was not saved. Therefore, I will duplicate my request: if it's not difficult for you, then turn on the automatically created subtitles on this video! In English, of course. )) I have already watched this video 2 times today and still did not understand more than half of the conversations. But I`m so terribly interesting and want to know - what you are talking about with Tommy! Anyway, even if I can't wait for the subtitles, I still thank you very much for this video, dude! I like this misty Uncle Tommy so much! it is very interesting to see him not on the TV screen! Hello to everyone from Russia!!!
You heard of A Streetcar Named Desire, On the Waterfront, East of Eden, Citizen Kane, now you heard of The Room, that takes everything about those other classics and elevates it further to another level, acting at its finest that outshines any other, a plot so suspenseful that you will be stuck to your chair, nothing has been this amazing, taking love scenes to a new level that you haven't seen since The Titanic in 1997, forget Leonardo Di Caprio........ here is Tommy Wiseau. Review by Tommy Wiseau
He knows that’s the joke everyone knows it called reversed hierarchy. And it’s part of his style in giving shit to other people like see Danny don’t playing to much it may not come out right. Oh hi Mark.
if Tommy didnt come off as being somewhat delusional, and if he deligently & concisely answered all the head scratching questions about the movie, people wouldnt care or be as intrigued. Its the same mindset as leaving art up to interpretation. Surely as a psychology major he knows that.
You know that really exaggerated impression that everyone does of Christopher Walken? Tommy Wiseau is a non ironic personification of that impression. It's bizarre.
I've seen the room 4 times, it's so fucking amazing lol. I'm going to see it in a packed theatre on Friday night. ...now that should be an experience!!
I loved the interview, great job guys! Tommy Wiseau is an interesting person and has a very special opinion on life and human interactions. I found that the interview went smootly minus a few unruly characters. The fact that people loved or hated The Room is not important, its simply a movie that doesn't leave you indifferent. For my part, it made me laugh and i loved the fact that nothing made sense. Look at the world around you today... nothing makes sense! But theres nothing wrong with a little fun , joy and laughter.
Great interviewing tactics really humouring, provoking while avoiding any awkwardness and pretty respectful ..I must say it's the first time I see an interview where the flow of the question and it's structure to be quite sharp and aware of the characteristic/personality of the recipient .you actually got answers out of Tommy and he seems to be really enjoying himself : ))
I understand preferring it to be seen on disc and at the cinema instead of streaming. It annoys me when people say they won't or "can't" watch a film because it's Not on Netflix.
I didnt get the part about his uncle, Greg said in the book that Tommy's uncle was a WWII veteran, what was wrong about that that Tommy corrected? Anyway, amazing interview.
Read it. It's hilarious, heartfelt and explains so much about The Room's weirdness. I also recommend the audiobook, Sestero does a killer Tommy impression.
Juliette Danielle (Lisa) was uncomfortable with being naked in front of the camera, so after the first 'love' scene was shot, she refused to do the second one. So they used the same scene over again, using some footage which was cut from the first scene, to make it look slightly different. So it is essentially the same scene. I don't know why he just doesn't be honest about it ha!
The only thing that rubs me the wrong way with Tommy Wiseau is that he's a guy who is being praised for making a movie so horrible that it turned out hilarious, even though it meant that he had emotionally abused his crew members, made everyone's lives (especially those of the actresses) a living nightmare on set and has spent over a decade lying about himself on press tours to make people forget about what happened on set. Don't get me wrong, I fucking love The Room but I'm starting to feel that people are going to start assessing The Room as an 'intentional' comedy, and that's very bad.
Tommy is delusional. He has a lot of charisma. People easily buy into charisma but even more so when it’s an alien with charisma. Even when Tim and Eric worked with him, it was very clear that they hated working with him. He is very delusional. What do you want? The interviewers to confront him and call him out and shut the interview down? I’m sure he would get angry enough to leave, he is very well known for that “walking out” behavior. This is like trying to get information out of an alien who has always been EXTREMELY vague about their planet. It’s like interviewing any delusional person, you wanna get information out of them to understand better. We all know they were abusive to an extent but he never raped or murdered or did anything like that, those actors and actresses could have walked out. Not saying that makes his behavior right
this guys is insane... combo subtitles... english and french.... !!! the film is in english !! why would u need to rread english and french subtitles at the same time???? he says this is the only film to have this feature as if it's a groundbreaking idea! lol !!!
Maxa Yoshiko It’s pretty easy to not understand. It’s not linear. It’s not conventional. Who are you supposed to care about? What part follows what part? Why do these gangsters not have serious dialogue with each other? It takes several viewing to really appreciate it.
Tommy in his heart really believes his movie is good. He only embraced the fun side because it made him famous. He rolled with it. I am fine with that. The movie industry is full of fakes and phones that make big budget junk. Who feel they made quality.
Actually, the story about the two identical sex scenes is made up. Juliette signed up for only one sex scene. When Tommy approached her for a second one she refused to do it. So they had to use unused footage of the first sex scene.
Oh my god! Sam compared him to David Chase. Sam should ask him Chase what he thinks of The Room. He'd probably hate but I'd just want to know his thoughts.
Thumbs up if you want Tommy Wiseau to do the hot wings challenge

I wanna see Franco, doing Tommy, doing the Hot Wings Challenge Dude!! See how he plays with fire as Wiseau ?

Agreed. Sam gets a lot of shit from people but this is def the best Tommy interview and I've seen a ton.

Tommy really embraced the theater version and the cult classic it's become. That's really cool of him, and he is basically saying, "Come see my movie at the theater with screaming crazy fans and join the party!"
Knowing that he was holding the ball during the interview makes it more amazing.
You gotta love this guy, just casually making stuff up as he goes, completely ignoring how ridiculous it makes him look or what the actual facts are. He should be president.
"Too bad I didn't bring my underwear" - another line that only Tommy can drop so casually and natural.
He's right about the two cameras. The movie being filmed simultaneously at slightly different angles by two cameras, both copies can be used together to create a real 3D version of The Room.
