Fun fact about that whole store and elevator, they used to be a restaurant in the very back towards the rear entrance that was walled off almost 1015 years ago in the elevator that is super old is one of the only remaining hydraulic lift elevators in Pennsylvania
JC Penney as a whole is not going out of business. Simon and Brookfield own it now and are shedding leased spaces an and keeping owned spaces. Additionally they are backing out of non Brookfield and Simon Mall's. And getting out of dead mall's. It makes sense.
Agreed. They announced plans around 6 months ago to spend 1B to upgrade stores and their website next few years. Our JCP so far ( in a Simon Mall) just spruced up on the exterior with new paint and new checkout stations at the entrances.
Awesome video. I think I saw somewhere that the Shenango Valley mall was closing. Did you do a video there? That would be great. I know JCPenney is not doing too great sadly. I think they are doing better out here in the west coast because I only know of couple closing where I live
Those old desk fans with the colored blades are worth a pile of money round here..my grandma has one it's white with the blue blades..you ever find them around in like a antique store if you can afford one cheep pick it up...find out if there selling that one..
It was totally awesome meeting you in person yesterday! It was so HOT 🥵 in there! I also got to take a look at the old, abandoned section of the mall, where it was much cooler. It’s unfortunate what has become of the SVM, but I’m looking forward to seeing new things in the area. 😊
It's a shame these types of places are going away. They were a huge part of my childhood. I've never been to this mall, I am from Ohio in East Liverpool, but it's a lot closer to the beaver valley mall in monacca PA which he's featured on his Channel a few times. Now I live in hopewell PA literally 10 min from The Beaver Valley Mall. I still go there all the time for the nostalgia, but I can see in say the next 5 years or so it going down. It just gets more and more empty over the years. Sad.
@@Machoke. I’ve been to the Beaver Valley Mall many, many times over the years and have seen it “evolve.” It’s still hanging in there, even though it’s somewhat dead now. Both of my parents are from Beaver County. My dad used to live in Center Township and currently lives in Beaver Falls.
@elizabethorsillo7187 yea it's a shame how bad it's gotten. They did reopen the pizza place in the mall that was really popular. They call it mall pizza now, but it's the same owners that were there before. Rural king is a cool store, and they have boscovs, which isn't super common anymore, but I'd say over 50% of the mall is vacant now which is never a good sign. I can't speak to management, and if that has anything to do with why it's failing. I blame it on location though. Robinson mall is bigger, and still doing very well, and being it's not too far away from there I think that hurts it a lot. Plus, robinson has a lot more there in town than monacca does. I mean online shopping is a contributor as well, but I think in this instance the location really hurts it.
Wish all these people would of come when it was open before. Thanks for your videos. I have been watching since 2020 when I had to retire due to heath reasons
This mall actually looks alive and well, meanwhile my local mall I honestly don’t think people would come even if there was a “goodbye” event…..very sad to see the death of retail

Hi Wallie I saw you there filming by the hidden part of the Shenango Valley Mall and didn't want to interrupt your incredible work. I met you at the closing of our Super K in Warren, Ohio and it was so nice to see you again in person in Hermitage, PA. Definitely stay awesome man!!
So sad to see so many places going out of business. There is a place about 45 minutes from where I live. They still have a Boscoves that is open and in a mall not far from there isca Mall with an open JC Penny's. A lot of the malls around here are kind of sad as well, though. There is more store's closed and empty then what there is open. Great video.
Building looks solid, what a waste to demolish & not repurpose. Wallie, your face & voice so familiar from seeing/hearing you everyday for 5 years. Feel like I know you, even tho I don't!
Before the Sears closed at Harford Mall in Maryland, I went to see it one last time. The mall is hurting store wise but it still gets shoppers. I try to go there when I'm off work to support it. Unfortunately my JcPenney's closed during Covid so the nearest one to me is White Marsh Mall.

Nice presentation my friend. It's truly the end of an era with JCPenney closing in Hermitage, PA. While it's always sad to see a store shut down, especially one that has been a community staple, these closures sometimes reflect a deeper issue in retail. Practices we call 'scanflation', where misleading pricing strategies are used, can erode trust and ultimately push consumers away. This closure could be seen as a necessary shakeup in a market that no longer supports such tactics. Let's hope for a future where transparency and fairness are at the forefront of retail. I'm curious, what are your thoughts on how these practices impact the shopping malls and stores you encounter? Todd B.
So sad to see all these stores i grew up with and would go to every weekend to grab something. All these dam slackers with there online and Amazon BS. 😢
That sounds a lot like the Sears that adruptly closed in Florida back in March. They got kicked out even though the store was under renovation with no planned closure.
