The most eerie part of the video were the photos. Some of them looked OLD. There's a story to that place and the pictures make it all the more mysterious. That wall of fame was kind of crazy to see as well. I hope Patti (the 51 year employee) and everyone else landed on their feet and are living their best lives right now.
This was cool. Older stores were big when they had a furniture dept, possibly a sporting goods dept as well. It was like a one stop shop, even having their own jc penney insurance dept and automotive center
Absolutely love going here as a kid growing up in Youngstown. Hopefully you managed to do a final walkthrough of Shenango Valley Mall before it closes this weekend. Keep up the great work Anthony 😊
a rare second of you! how do you manage to just get the right shot? your focus on things fromt he large to the small, just the random little things that we miss in life, the lights, the chairs. but you get the big things. these videos always make me feel sad as this time, this part of western culture is dying. it's not just in the US, but to a lesser extent the UK too. Shopping centers and high streets. And whenever i see a video like this, or a shop in my home town. I just think "someones mum worked there once, I hope she can still pay the bills" but then I find my self thinking about times where I was a kid and charging around these places in the early 90s. Just before they declined. I guess, all I really wanted to say is, you have perfected a rather unusal art. Of being able to tell an entire story, of an entire life, from many perspectives, without saying a word. That is talent I respect. If you ever read this Ace, if you think it far fetched or not, you are doing something very amazing here.
In my honest opinion, the owners of the mall did JcPenny dirty in forcing this location to close, yet it was one of JcPennys' top stores. I dont know why they couldn't just develop around the Jcpenney location.
I’m shocked the JC Penny at our local mall is still open. It’s sad, no doubt, to see the decline of malls in general, but a reality of this day and age.
This is my home town! I worked at the Macys and the Payless there back in high school and college. I used to go with my grandma to get her hair done at that JCPenney salon. Saturday is the official last day for the mall. There’s going to be a vendor event and food trucks and stuff. It’s wild that it’s going away.
So many memories of JCPenney. My grandmother worked at century 3 from the time it opened to her retirement. All our Xmas gifts came from JCPenney. Even my high school prom dress. I would love to have a JCPenney sign
Ace you always bring it ! This time you outdid yourself! I have been following you for a year now and this is my favorite video of yours to date! So amazing that you got back to the break rooms!!!!
That elevator door looked similar to the one we used at Century Plaza Mall that was in Birmingham. We would get in and open the elevator doors when it was between floors. There was lots of graffiti there so lots of other people did it too. 😁👍
My parents are from the area and we visited this JCP last weekend. Here’s some weird lore: according to my dad, this JCP used to have a restaurant (?) inside that served pie. Probably would have been the 80s.
According to my FIL and parents, yes the restaurant was right off the parking lot entrance. It was a hot spot for Friday night fish in addition to pie. The restaurant was turned into the photo center after it closed.
That place is insane. You never ran into a soul, with the background music cheerfully blaring away to nobody. Penny’s is marching its way along the Sears road. The giants are falling.
Wow! What’s the story with all those lockers? Crazy I can’t imagine they ever had that many employees at the same time or anywhere close to that many? Great vid Ace! Thanks🎉
If you are in an area that isn't within driving distance of the hood you're ok. Look at Cleveland. Richmond, Euclid, Randall, Parmatown, all within minutes of areas where not everyone is a trouble maker but the ones that are looking to cause problems are within short commutes.
My local mall, Washington Square in Tigard Or. is really thriving, it’s almost at 100% occupancy. They have leaned heavy in to the Asian community in the area and it’s working.
There’s a lot of malls in good locations that’re still thriving. Like one I visited in the Valley recently, as well as my local mall (granted, it isn’t what it used to be, but it maintains a healthy amount of foot traffic). Physical storefronts & malls will make a comeback when the novelty of online shopping wears off. There’s so much junk flooding the marketplace that it’s becoming difficult to pick out the wheat from the chaff. Eventually, people will want to go back to buying products in-person again.
The mall i live near atm (Lycoming Mall) is apparently turning into something else called The District though I'm not sure what that is; everything moved out including Books a Million and even the unattached movie theater (the worst part of it leaving!) Not sure what is going on with my hometown 's mall but I think it has a thriving flea market still + the theater.
Maybe. Hermitage(Sharon PA) is in the absolute middle of nowhere so I'm not sure outside of the dedicated urbex folks how many are willing to drive to rural PA. Well maybe since you have Daffin's and The Lube there.
Very sad, especially knowing that soon it's likely to be pillaged and destroyed by scrappers and vandals and then razed. Right now, it's all perfectly-functioning and could still be usable for something else.
Wow! Imagine working at a place for 51 years... that's a LOT of memories.
Wow I saw that! No doubt.. probably the nicest hardworking honest lady left in her whole state 😢
That was amazing. Going back to the 70s.
Thanks for the walk through ace!
No problem 👍
That was a great behind-the-scenes tour. One can only imagine how it looked in its heyday.
Thanks!
Nice video Ace. Really captured the quiet desperation of a passing way of life. Really nakes me feel my own mortality and all that is gone

Congrats to Patti, at 51 Years! ❤

Hence Sears dying once they got rid of electronics for good

They just closed the one in Austintown too 😢
@@Gordy-fj1jy I know. That was a good one too
My mom worked here in the 70s and I remember shopping for school clothes here as a kid. Will be missed.
Fifty one years would make it 1973.... Could you image how cool it would have been then?? Where's my Delorean 🤔

I have family in Hermitage. No doubt this mall and store was a part of their lives for decades.
Ace giving us the silent treatment. Hehehe... So sad to see an empty department store.
3:00 Looks like that was part of the sales floor that was walled off.
Chessie system!
Thanks again Anthony! Always look forward to your videos.
Wouldn't mind having a set of those lockers
Glad you got a chance to go there!
Wow, that is an old store. And I spotted that old flower wallpaper, at the 4:23 mark!
That elevator door looked similar to the one we used at Century Plaza Mall that was in Birmingham. We would get in and open the elevator doors when it was between floors. There was lots of graffiti there so lots of other people did it too. 😁👍

I'd bet they had a Layaway department too. Fifty-one years...wow.
Old store for sure
The old furniture gallery walled off!

I bet they had 250 employees a 1 time.
Hi Ace 👋 your friend Wallie B 26 told me about your channel.
It was a big store.
Shockingly it was and old
This looked very sad, its sad to accept that most malls are going under.
If you are in an area that isn't within driving distance of the hood you're ok. Look at Cleveland. Richmond, Euclid, Randall, Parmatown, all within minutes of areas where not everyone is a trouble maker but the ones that are looking to cause problems are within short commutes.
@@bmstylee This is true, the Fayette mall in Lexington Ky is still going strong.
My local Penny's is closing May 26th. It's the last anchor too, the mall is on borrowed time........
2:55 I could use those shelves for my collectibles!
It's all over. Malls are in the last death throes. Sad.
The dominoes are really falling now

Allot are but there's still malls that are doing great just won't be As many

How’s it going Ace??
It’s going
It would be cool if you could get up to lakeside Mall in Sterling heights Michigan before it officially closes in 60 days
2:10 "Salon Closed", yet the ceiling fans are on. Interesting...
7:12 ✌
Even the hair cutting is going down 😮😢
Time is a villain
2:15 I hear Bad Bad News by Leon Bridges
I wouldn't be surprised if something delays the demolition indefinitely, so in a few years, the mall becomes another #Urbex place to film
Maybe. Hermitage(Sharon PA) is in the absolute middle of nowhere so I'm not sure outside of the dedicated urbex folks how many are willing to drive to rural PA. Well maybe since you have Daffin's and The Lube there.
Thanks Ace, Keep em Rolling!
OMG thank you! That’s super kind of you
A whole lot of fixtures to unload.

😂
Ask Debbie the salon girl lol
probably a pumping/mothers area?
@@pedanticmrpender I bet there was pumping going on 😉

I miss mannequins even though they were creepy.
Did you get your camera equipment back?
Bought new stuff
You do know its all planned ? same here in the UK
I miss mannequins with make up and hair!
they really hosed themselves when their CEO said they were getting rid of sale. the customer expected sales to be a thing.
WallieB26 brought me here. By the way, as I was watching this video, I was hoping you didn't get caught going into the back rooms.
Oh good. I was worried there wouldn't be an "inclusion & diversity" board hanging somewhere.
Disney. No need to say anything else.
Yuk another closing, sucks for the employees.
