- In this video we witness the sight and sound of THREE USATC S160s operating together for the first time in the UK since 1944, and for only the second time within preservation globally!
Resident American Sisters nos. 5197 and 6046 will be joined by no. 2253 Omaha, which is making a flying visit courtesy of Peter Best and Dartmouth Steam Railway. The event takes place on the Churnet Valley Railway's Superpower Weekend, which is a fundraiser event, for the railway's pursuit of running trains back to the Staffordshire town of Leek !
The main highlight of the event was the final run, where we are treated to the thunderous sound of three S160 locomotives hauling an equivalent load of 14/15 coaches in weight up the 1/45 gradient towards Ipstones. An extra diesel was added to make the train heavier and to give all three locomotives plenty of work !
What a sound they made, I hope you enjoy the video !
Brilliant display! Absolutely amazing to watch and even better to hear.
This isn't just a locomotive. It's a symbol of how strong the friendship is between the United States and the United Kingdom. God love you, Brits. God Save The King. 🇬🇧🇺🇲
Ohama looks smashing in this and they all do really despite the fact they were built to last 90 days we still have them nearly 80 years on
It's great to see these three beauties restored to their glory
Soundporn, these have a very powerful exhaust beat, and being loaded up with a couple of 33's at the rear made it better.
God bless America for these locos
It still amazes me that 3 S160s are in the UK, at least several in america are stilk around and have 1 operational at the moment and another under a rebuild
Beautiful! I can’t wait to see our S160 running the railway in Chattanooga Tennessee!
AMERICA INTENSIFIES
Those s160s boast the only 5 chime short-bell whistles in the entire UK
Triple headed for 8 passenger cars. Those must have been some really heavy passengers - all American tourists? Truly a USA experience.
Loud whistles, heavy chugging, feeling the ground rumble as it gets close. That's an American engine for ya.
love the segment from
Noisy smokey with great locations also, triple headed steam and 2 diesel at back, perfection, and weather seemed good also, 10 out of 10, well captured
Wow. That’s a great sight. One sounds good in the valley but three must be awesome.
It was one of CVR's best weekends and as a tribute to the S160's could not have been better.. I was on the train on the Saturday and along with hundreds more thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle..
I saw Ohama when she had her steam test at Grosmont. Sadly I'm not in the country anymore so it's stunning to see her move under her own steam!
Must be one of the best steam videos I've ever seen. Well done to all involved and thanks for posting this vid.
I live in Alaska and our S160 restoration is ever getting closer to completion. Can’t wait to hear the chugging and whistle echo in the mountains!
What a fantastic experience this video is. No mistaking the loaded beat of those superb American beasts coupled with the whistles. I love the way you have linked and edited the shots. Very well done and thank you for sharing with us.
