  • From the director of films such as 24: Redemption & Forsaken, comes an exciting thriller from 2001 starring TV icons Casper Van Dien & Gerald McRaney! Following a nuclear weapons testing accident in North Korea, the crew of a US Navy submarine experiences a communications breakdown. Believing that a nuclear war has started, the senior officers prepare for retaliation, but one man is not so sure.
I claim no ownership over the film or audio itself.

I only spent four years in sub duty the reason we carry nukes is as a deterent I never met an officer or enlisted man who wanted to launch except after a rehaul. We all went through psych evaluating we were all heavily investigated by the FBI with background searches. Anything is possible but this isn't probable. That said so far it's an alright film. Gray lady down is an awesome flick if any copies can be found

    • @Kirkee7

I agree. I never served in the navy. This is an improbable reaction of an XO who has no idea why or who detonated a nuke warhead but is prepared to launch on 4 targets . How did he manage to escape from the loony asylum and pass himself of as a navy officer. That might have made a good story.

Take some Crimson Tide, blend in an equal measure of Hunt for Red October, add some Fifth Missile, stir in a dash of The Bedford Incident (all excellent - Fifth Missile was a TV movie based on the novel 'Gold Crew', Bedford is probably one of the best cold-war thrillers ever - well worth viewing); mix well and bake for approximately 90 minutes and PRESTO! As soon as I saw that “goofy dolphins” submarine-service breast chest insignia, on both commissioned and enlisted “actors”, and then that two-star admiral (McRaney) with no primary breast insignia, but he was sporting a “SSBN Deterrent Patrol” secondary breast insignia, I knew I wouldn’t last another ten minutes of this movie. And I most definitely did not. I have almost 37 years Navy service, both enlisted and commissioned, seagoing and aviation, active and reservist…..and I have damned little tolerance for films that don’t take the time to properly portray accuracy in the wearing of the uniform. Too many men AND women, have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country, wearing the various uniforms of the different branches, and it’s the LEAST that Hollywood can do, is to properly honor their uniforms by simply portraying them accurately. Is that really too much to ask? And McRaney is a long term supporter of the military. C’est la vie, I guess. Why bother even commenting.

A lot of sh...happens on a production. Time and budget are the Gods. Probaby got some good consults, but the deadline had to be met. This has always been the thing in Hollywood. If you watch the old shows like Bonanza, there's a ton of production issues. So, in Hollywood, the law that states all things change, well, doesn't seem to apply.

@6:58, I believe it was good the movie script had that scene a part of the movie. Married servicemen and women serve WITH their wives and husbands. All to often we overlook everyone serves, Dads, Moms, children, Grandparents, everyone who knows the service member is away from home serving America are locked in arms knowing one day their service member may pay the ultimate price for our Freedom and they will be left with memorys and sorrow. Keeping America FREE 'ain't' FREE, it comes at a huge cost. GOD BLESS and KEEP America's service men and women, without their sacrifices our Freedom would be lost.

I enjoyed it; but then I do not attach expectations of reality to fantasy.

    • @reesaserik3759
      @reesaserik3759 Рік тому

@@jimclark6256 Nice. I had a 4th grade spelling test back in 1970. Went on to graduate from Highschool with honors. Went on to college where I maintained a 4.0 grade average and hit the Dean's List every semester. Graduated a Cum Laude and I have the diploma to prove it. I eventually achieved a $100,000. plus income. I will end my life in a two story, 3 bedroom, 2-1/2 bath, three car garage house with three vehicles parked in that garage on an acre of land in a very low crime suburb. The house, the cars, paid in full as of 2 years ago. So, if I did fail a 4th grade spelling test back then, it did not seem to have held me back. There is a reason why professional writers have editors. An occasional grammatical error happens when you are writing on the fly. Perhaps had I known that a perfect fellow human (not) would have been wasting his/her time reading my comment, maybe I would have checked my grammar before hitting reply. On second thought, I would not have because, frankly, at my age I simply do not give a damn what anyone else thinks. That is one of the luxuries of getting old. You have seen so much in life that any derogatory comment from someone I do not know or will never know, simply matters not. I just thought I would explain my opinion. Maybe you may realize that your opinion matters little to very few, as does mine. But, hey, thanks for the attention.

Unsung heroes, a true story, we all owe our lives to a Russian navel officer.
His boat was being severely harassed by U S surface ships during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Vasily Aleksandrovich Arkhipov refused to authorize the captain and the political officer's use of nuclear torpedoes against the United States Navy.
That cool decision required the agreement of all three officers.
In 2002, Thomas S. Blanton, then director of the U.S. National Security Archive, credited Arkhipov as "the man who saved the world".
Arkhipov prevented the Soviet nuclear torpedo launch.
Such an attack likely would have caused a major global thermonuclear response, destroying large parts of the Northern Hemisphere.

Below sea surface transmission equipments for EAM's should have non-integrated backups.
This would mean running on battery separate from main power, but also
non-operational before the main EAM receiver is off-lined by any means, and EMP
proof stored in security box under lock and key.
This will guarantee EAM capability even after receiving EMP.
Operational usage of emergency EAM should be on/off lines periodical
and restorage in the security box, and/or during vital missions, for final
    confirmation.
The last thing we need is an accidental nuclear war.
Note: The battery can be charged during any off periods.
