Redesigned Ridgeline coming to Honda dealerships starting Feb. 2
Bold exterior design reflects Ridgeline’s exceptionally rugged capabilities
Fully boxed truss-style floor frame and standard torque-vectoring i-VTM4® all-wheel drive system help deliver best-in-class AWD hauling
Unmatched versatility includes widest bed in class, with Dual-Action Tailgate and In-Bed Trunk®, and segment’s largest interior for passengers and gear
The 2021 Honda Ridgeline begins arriving at Honda dealerships on Feb. 2, with bold new styling underscoring its rugged and versatile pickup truck capabilities. Ridgeline’s standard V6 power, fully independent suspension and standard torque-vectoring i-VTM4® all-wheel drive give it the capability to tackle challenging trails and treacherous roads with class-leading ride and handling. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Prices (MSRP) start at $36,4901.
Ridgeline continues to bring unmatched versatility, including the segment’s largest interior for passengers and gear, a brilliantly versatile bed featuring the class-exclusive In-Bed Trunk® lockable storage compartment, and best-in-class standard AWD model payload capacity.
For the 2021 model year, Ridgeline features all-new sheet metal from the front roof pillars forward, including a new hood with a pronounced power bulge, a new squared off nose and upright grille, and new front fenders. Flanking the grille are new, brighter LED headlights bisected by the crossbar atop the grille, which is painted gloss black on Sport trims and Black Edition, and is chrome plated on RTL and RTL-E. The body-color lower front bumper further accentuates the Ridgeline’s tough new look with a prominent skid plate and broad side vents that create air curtains to route air through the bumper and around the front tires and wheels to improve aerodynamic performance. A reshaped rear bumper exposes aggressive new twin exhaust outlets, and all Ridgeline trims feature tougher looking 18-inch wheels and an additional 20 mm of track width to give Ridgeline a broader, more planted stance. New tires top off the more rugged look with a more aggressive sidewall and shoulder design. Ridgeline also adds a new Radiant Red Metallic to its exterior color palette.
A new HPD Package was developed in collaboration with Honda Performance Development (HPD), Honda’s U.S.-based racing company, and adds a unique grille treatment, an HPD emblem, black fender flares, aggressive bronze-colored wheels, and special HPD graphics on the side of the bed-for a suggested retail price of $2,800. It’s one of four new post-production option packages available on all Ridgeline trims that include Utility ($1,465), Function ($270), and Function+ ($1,315).
Inside, the 2021 Ridgeline adds a physical volume knob for the audio system, and wireless phone charging. Plus, all Ridgeline trims get new contrast stitching on the seats; Sport trims add new cloth seat inserts; and Sport, RTL and RTL-E trims have new dash, steering wheel and center console accents. Ridgeline’s spacious cabin offers top-class passenger comfort and rear-seat legroom, with a flat floor and foldaway 60/40-split rear seat bottoms, offering enhanced flexibility for carrying long and tall items in the cabin.
A 280-horsepower, 3.5-liter direct-injected VTEC® V6 backed by a smooth and responsive 9-speed automatic transmission powers every 2021 Honda Ridgeline, with i-VTM4® torque-vectoring all-wheel drive now standard across the lineup. The i-VTM4® system automatically sends up to 70 percent of the engine’s 262 lb.-ft. (SAE net) of torque to the rear wheels and continuously apportions 100 percent of that torque between the left and right rear wheels based on driving conditions at each wheel. Ridgeline’s standard Intelligent Traction Dynamics System further optimizes power delivery and distribution in various conditions, including snow, pavement, mud and sand.
All 2021 Honda Ridgelines come standard with the Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies, featuring Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). Ridgeline also targets top-class collision safety ratings from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), including an NCAP 5-star Overall Vehicle Score, a “GOOD” rating in all IIHS collision tests, and a “SUPERIOR” IIHS rating for front crash prevention.

Also I might have missed where you show heated windshield button, and using key fob to bring all windows down, and key in fob to bring all up without going to do them all without ignition system, which you can same method to bring up or down, also with sliding volume controls on the civic and Ridgeline pickup truck, you can one touch from high to low or push power button to turn off if someone needed to rush that much...too many people make things seem harder than reality, also steering volume controls even at highest volume, just holding it down work very fast.... thanks again Mike for an awesome review and keep enjoying your designed for North America and Canada, engineered and built in America by Americans pickup truck.

Let’s all be real here. People hate on the ridgeline cause it’s not a “truck” but for most people this is a perfect truck. Cab is spacious, rides like an suv, but a I’ll has a bed. Every time I took my Tacoma off-road, I know this could do the same . Unless you’re a rock crawler this is fine. Also if you’re looking at a midsize truck then towing isnt a concern to begin with

FWIW: my taller-than-average 4 year old son can sit comfortably in his full size car seat installed on the back seat while still just leaving adequate space for my wife in the front passenger seat. He loves riding in there, and my wife really enjoys the comfortable ride and dual-zone climate control.

I feel like this is a truck 90% of most truck owners actually need realistically. I think it’s biggest issue is the price. I know Honda doesn’t do a lot or rebates or incentives. I myself am in the market for a truck and I think this hits everything I’d ever need really. But when you consider you can get a 1/2 ton truck with tons more towing and payload capabilities for the exact same price after incentives and rebates it’s a hard sell. If it’s gonna cost the same I feel like it needs something special that it just dosnt have. Like crazy good gas mileage, a crazy good interior with a large amount of standard but luxury features on the base model(kinda like Kia did with the stinger gt), or a really low price that under cuts 1/2 tons enough to make it worth taking the lower specs over the 1/2 tons. None of which it does unfortunately. I think it’s missing that wow factor to make it super competitive. With this more “truck” style I really do like it a lot more now and definitely will consider it in my purchase! But when you can get a 1/2 ton with much higher ratings for the same price or a mid size with better ratings for less it’s a really hard sell logically speaking. This is just my opinion but I just feel it’s so close to benign something extremely special it’s just missing that “wow” thing ya know? Do I ever need to tow 9000lbs regularly? No but who’s to say I may not need to once down the road and having that opportunity if I ever needed is a big reason why. I think most buyers will lean towards the 1/2 ton trucks mainly due to them being the same price basically.

Just bought a 2021 Honda Ridgeline RTL last week and I’m loving it! Got it with the bed top as well which looks really nice. For those concerned with price, I looked at the Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger Lariat, Ford 150 Lariat, GMC Canyon, and Nissan Frontier before making my decision. I could not find anything that had full four door cab, powered leather heated seats, adaptive cruise control, rear camera, power moon roof and power rear window, and blind spot alerting. These were my requirements and my price was ~41k. Ford told me I’d have to sacrifice something…the 150 with desired specs was 60k, ranger lariat came close but was missing moon roof, rear window, and the cabin space seemed smaller. Tacoma has nice capability but lacks many features and the frontier was a joke. Go with the Ridgeline RTL trim :)

the other comment was, it's not a TRUE dual Exhaust.... well when I was younger than today... way way younger...I owned a few Camaros and as much as I thought they were dual exhaust...the pipes split out of the final muffler, whereas here on the Ridgeline, the pipe splits way up near the engine, so the exhaust flows identically out the 2 pipes it is almost a perfect layout under that body... I think they did a terrific job.... 2 tiny mufflers and I might NOW go and get the ONE muffler swapped for a more DEEP THROATY sound...

The Sport trim in Black is like a budget "Black Edition" due to the blacked out trim. Looks sharp and seems very well equipped for the price. I am deciding between the Honda Passport and the Ridgeline - I love the fact that the Ridgeline comes with a hitch and 18" wheels. The Passport has goofy 20" wheels and the hitch is $$.

I have been in the market for a truck for several months now. However, I likely will wait until my Accord is paid off first. Hoping to see some additional upgrades from the current iteration; a little more powerful engine and perhaps better payload capacity.
But considering since most Americans don't use their lifted F150 Raptors for off-roading, the capabilities of this vehicle are more than enough for what most Americans would want a truck for. For the occasional Home Depot run; buying some lumber for a small job or moving a piece of furniture, this truck will do the job. Most Americans buy the big lumbering giant trucks only to show off.

However, most of your time was spent on what I refer to as lipstick and rouge whereas I would have appreciated more time if not the majority of time spent on the mechanical aspects of this vehicle such as surface size of the front and rear brakes what type of brakes what size is a tow hitch inside dimensions of the bed, but hidden access to the gas flop and the tailgate hidden flap and all the mechanical fuel points on the motor and a little more talking about the maintenance required on this vehicle for example how expensive is it to keep it in compliance with warranty. Other things like actual headlight output would be nice and a brief description of what other trim levels will give you I think most people are buying the rtl-e trim

I was under the impression that they at least sped up the infotainment on the 2021 model, in addition to adding the volume knob. Looks like they just changed the color to red, bc it appears to be just as slow as my 2020 head unit.
HVAC controls look slightly different as well.
Other than that, I think the only thing that the 2021 model has over the 2020 is looks.

I've read some folks compare this to an El Camino, which, engineering-wise, was sheer garbage. But, really, in my mind it reminds me of the '37-39 Studebaker Express... the classiest pick-up every made. The Ridgeline is definitely not nearly as good-looking... no pick-ups anymore are, they're ALL boring... but, the Ridgeline is definitely better engineered. The RTL-E trim-level is basically an Acura which tows 5000 lbs. You can't beat it. I'd still sell my soul for the Express though lol. Really nice, detailed, review. Thank you! I'm glad Ian didn't wallop you guys badly.

Mike, so in my 2019 I have the shifter knob, and on that shifter there is a button, I believe that it holds a gear in 4th maybe, so are the paddle shifters a way to HOLD in any gear if we select D/S..... I love the engine off system, you actually get 2 batteries, as only the engine shuts off, if you had the Air Conditioner on, it remains running..... I WISH that HONDA had Break Hold, meaning if I used the breaks and push a little harder, it HOLDS...at this point you can take your foot off and have it ready to push the accelerator quicker.... no lost time moving you foot from the Break to the throttle.... 2 seconds to beat the guy next to you when you're dragging another Truck at all the RED lights... Winner....

I’ve always disliked the Rodgeline. Thought it was dumb for years. I took a ride in one last week and moved some heavy appliances with it and even sat in the back seat. Changed my perspective. I have been waiting for a 4runner for months to trade down from my full sized 1/2 ton truck. The more I learn about this Ridgeline the more I think I’m gonna buy it instead. Thousands less than 4runner and it’s still got a truck bed.

The design of Ridgeline was better suited to meeting my needs than any other midsize truck. However, it has 2 fatal defects. First it is not an off-road truck, so the standard AWD only adds complexity, decreases fuel economy, and adds $3,000 to the price when compared to the completion. If you live in a snow belt then disregard that comment. Second, it has one of the last remaining interference timing belt engines. Apparently, Honda has no problem saving $10-15 per vehicle when they know every customer will spend $1,000 between 60,000 and 100,000 miles to change the timing belt and water pump. And the HPD package is more than a $3,000 option for some graphics and tire package. Try buying a Ridgeline for less than $40,000.
