I use the erin condren clear pockets 2 of them one to put a receipt and the ones I buy Christmas with throughout the year just on case something dont fit and so on!
Great info, thanks! I am obsessed with binders to organize receipts (and everything). I find it helpful to be able to turn the pages and not have things get lost in a filing system. I made a video about my system: ua-cam.com/video/C-_Vb7wI65Y/v-deo.html
I don't think you'd wanna know... Shoved into a one of those 6 style empty drawer table top my TV sits on. Not very good, and although i'd like to all go digital only, my privacy matters to me much more. So, for now anyway, paper it is.. (I feel so 1980's) lol.. I suppose i wouldn't be here otherwise.
Clipped together in date order with a great big oversized paper clip at the moment, in an old laundry tablet box. This is why I'm watching this video - ha ha ha! Time to update. :)
I have a file box that I keep all my paid bills in. The folders are all labeled. I keep my receipts for 1 year and then grind at the end of year. I have done this for the past 60 years, has always worked for me.
I have folders labeled January - December. I put all of my receipts and paid bills in the current month’s folder. When that month rolls around next year, I go through the folder and make sure there is nothing I need to keep and shred the rest! It’s been working great!
I came up with this exact idea that’s crazy I never knew other people use this way to organize their receipts too The only thing I did do different is I would keep each store separated and it’s an envelope and then file it under the letter it starts with that way if I’m looking for a certain receipt from a certain store it’s easier to find I just look for the name of the store under the letter it starts with and then look through those receipts for that store that’s the only thing I did different it’s a great organizing system for your receipts that’s for sure 😊👍🏻
I fail in this area frequently. Next week we get our taxes done, so this weekend I'll pull out several boxes of misc. paper that has been accumulating and go through it to find what I need for my tax appointment. The rest will get filed or shredded. My husband and I own a business and I am always drowning in paperwork - I have the equivalent of 9 4-drawer filing cabinets full between our shop and my house. It's overwhelming. My goal is to have a simple system for my personal stuff - a folder for stuff I need for taxes, a medical file, a current bill file, a short term file and a long term file. Maybe this year (I say this every year). Thanks for showing us your system. I don't buy a lot of "stuff", especially since my kids are all about your age and my husband I just don't need or want a lot. So I don't need to keep store receipts very often. But I can certainly see the advantage of doing so.
I was looking for a system. This was so helpful. I was thinking about how I can move the receipts from the accordion file to an archive (like appliances or jewelry purchased years ago). Any thoughts?
I added a pencil pouch to keep receipts by the door when I come in and then I have a Clear Ziplock for receipts in my drawer and they are seperated by paper clip alphabetically. Should I keep take fast food receipts especially if I have already eaten the food by the time I exit the drive through? Thank you for opening the dialog.
I staple mine together by the date. Then put in a plastic shoebox. I go there to find returns. Empty around Nov and start a new one in Dec before holiday shopping. I live in an RV so I burn my mail in a fire pit or put it in an empty OJ bottle or something and add water and soap to it. Shake and let sit under cabinet about a week and toss it out on the bottom of nasty trash on top.
i keep my receipts until i reconcile them with my monthly bank statement. then i shred them. i keep them in a clear plastic envelope i bought at the dollar tree for one dollar.
I sort receipts by month so that if something is under warranty or is guaranteed, then I know when something was purchased and I can go back and get the receipt.
It is basically my temporary storage. 1)To File - info that needs to be placed in a binder 2)Receipts 3)Coupons 4)Kate/Derrick - Anything that I need to put in their school memory envelopes 5)Me/My Husband - Anything needing to go in our personal binders
Hi-I’ve got a chaotic system-I dump receipts into a small plastic box-then when I’ve made time I print sick them by day/date into an A3 diary(used only for receipts). When I need to look one up, I either flick through the pages and look for store name and/or I nip on my iPhone Amazon page account and whizz through my orders-when found,I can then go strait to the diary page.Unfortunately,I keep everything as I’m probably a hoarder (ok I am a hoarder!!!) Might try your system but yours requires discipline which as a bloke,I lack!! Trevor West Sussex UK
Great idea, so your accordion file may have receipts from years passed like for appliances furniture, etc How do you determine what receipts to keep - thank you
I will go through them periodically. If I have used everything on the receipt and know I won't return it, I will shred it. Unless it is a big purchase, like an appliance. I will keep those receipts just so I have the product information.
Screen shot, label the screen shot accordingly/and immediately so it wont get lost, then I have a similar file system on both the PC and a hard drive (and if you want cloud) First folder is just to put it in, and then every few days move to the next folder. next folder is a little more organized, (Example, By months, and then inside that folder Store name, however your brain works should be sufficient) you don't need to go too intense with this system because you can get lost down a rabbit hole. the best part about Digital is that you can rearrange easily, and sort by date, name search via keyword etc. Again I would stress not getting too intricate because after a short while the net gain does not outweigh the time to organize it.
I stumbled on this video looking for some ideas of how to "categorize" my receipts in an accordion file. I never thought of alphabetically 🤦🏼♀️, but that's a great idea! Looking forward to more organization ideas!
How do you store your receipts?

I use a small accordion file also alphabetized like yours!

I scan them if I need to keep for warranty reasons, I do this as they fade over time it also reduces the paper clutter
That is a great idea.
Same here, that's what I do :-)
Mind. Blown. So simple. Makes SO much sense! Loved the short video too!😉

Thank you so much! Its amazing how many systems are needed to run as a organized productive adult. One more added to my life.
I have been searching on a way to organize my receipts. Thank you.
You are very welcome.

What else do you store in the hanging file? I have the same one but I need ideas!

I store them in my deluxe planner in an envelope with that month..
Good simple advice. But smile - you look so serious!!
Where do you hand the IKEA organizer? I need it to be visible, but not an eye sore.
It is in my office.
How do you store de boxes of appliances for stores that require you to return it with the original box, and keep it "in sync" with the receipt?
Great ideas!!!! Lol im like your mom!!! Thanks!!!!!

I've been keeping my receipts for taxes but I'm very new is there any receipts that I don't need ? what would be good for tax purposes to keep ?
I keep receipts in a box and it's a mess. I was thinking of changing it up by taking a photo of each receipt and storing it on a flash drive.
This is a great idea! Thank you for sharing
And, thank you for watching, Amela.
Simple, to the point and wonderful. 👍🏼
I organise the receipts according by the month and bundle them with the rubber and all the receipts keep only 5 years. longer than that shredding.
Wow you are organised I could never do that 👍
thanks for this. what to do with digital receipts? would you recommend printing it? Thanks in advance

I was expecting some crazy Karen but this is actually pretty cool.
Great system! Very easy.
Great Idea !
Thanks.
Love you vids
noice and useful
