    Looks great Coop. More straightforward setup than I expected.
    I certainly think being raised off the damp & cold ground is the way to go now.

    I've had the "Oversize" TentCot for 15 years and use it a lot. That's the one sized between the single and double. I only use the rain fly in the coldest weather down here in Florida. Most of the time it's too hot and stifling to use it in our typical rainstorms. Instead, I use one of those lightweight tarps that hammock campers favor. Of course, you'll need a couple of nearby trees to tie it to, but you'll get plenty of ventilation even during the heaviest rain. Also, you don't need to crawl under the TentCot to fasten those straps. Just tip the whole thing on its side, spread the legs, latch and tighten all those straps, then tip the thing upright again to finish the setup.

      Thanks for watching and the comment! We don't always use the rain fly either. We've been sticking it inside a light "instant" shelter we got off clearance at wally world. It works quite well. I'm with you about the stifling part, we are in TX and it gets smoking hot. That's a great tip about tipping the unit over to tighten the straps. I've started doing that as well. Thanks again for the watching and the insights. We really appreciate it.

    Great video. I am considering the purchase of the Kamp-Rite double but I am very curious whether you can feel the support bars whatsoever underneath your back or hips? Also does the middle support bar running lengthwise “separate” you from your wife/girlfriend? In other words can you lay on top of the center bar without really feeling it?

    • @LivingCooper

      Nana here, thanks for watching and asking great questions. I have back problems, this is the most comfortable camping situation I have ever experienced. We both sleep quite well in there without any extra aches and pains from camping. We do not notice the support, but we use the mattress we talk about in the video. With the mattress there is no issue with snuggling up together at all. I hope that you get the Kamp Rite set up, it was worth the expense to enjoy camping.

      LivingCooper - Thanks for the quick reply! I believe I’m going to pull the trigger on the KR Double. I’m 6’ and 245 lbs so I know I’ll appreciate the room and based on the measurements I should have room at the feet to place a fan and our dog if necessary.

    Thanks for the video, nice to see that you admit to the mistakes you made and did not pawn it off on the company's design. I have been in two major car accidents and would like to get back into camping, I am debating one of these inside a tent or a air mattress inside a tent. I need to have room to stand up and get the back and knees loosened up so need to be inside the tent for privacy.

    • @LivingCooper
      @LivingCooper  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching and commenting. We both have back problems, Nana with past bad back surgery that has not fixed her issues. We both sleep comfortably in here with the pad that is sold as an addition. We went a step further and folded a moving blanket on each side under the mattress for extra padding and insulation. We don't even notice the bar. Also, if you watch the video of us camping at Big Bend Ranch State Park as well as the camping trip we took to the Arkansas Crater of Diamonds State Park we used tarps and a 2 sided camping shelter for additional privacy. We haven't tried to set it up inside of our regular tent so not sure how well it would fit. Hope you get one of these tents. It was well worth the investment. The newer ones seem to be a better system for transportation/storage. They seem to collapse much smaller.

      The camp rite compact xl is a lot easier to get in and out of. Eighteen inches off the ground but has less ventilation.

    I bought the yescom folding tentcot and it's pretty much the same as the kamp rite tentcot my absolute only issue with it is that it didn't come with any form of a rainfly at all other than that I love it and it's going to get a lot of camping and stealth camping use. the legs on mine are somewhat ocd lol I'm curious as to whether there's any bar locking pins that lock it in place while it's folded out on mine when you unfold it you have to pull the bars that support the roof up and at the bottom on both sides there's a pin and groove that lock it in place while it's unfolded so im wondering if yours is similar

    • @LivingCooper
      @LivingCooper  3 роки тому

      Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I haven't noticed any locking pins on the legs. They are held in place by the tension from the straps that run from each end to the bottom of the middle set of legs. I hope that makes sense and answers your question. Thanks again.

    You can tie the rain fly door it with the mesh door on the actual tent, so you have two mesh doors in the loop of the actual tent. :) How's it doing so far? Do you still recommend this tent?

      We both have back problems and slept very well on this, not noticing the cross bars. We last used it at freezing temperatures in Big Bend Ranch State Park. We folded some moving blankets on each side of the bed then put the mattress over it. It was very comfortable! Our favorite way to camp….even as camper owners.

    Idea's for the doors on the rain fly, 2 small stones ,paracord with a couple stakes.
    Chip clips would work to hold up tent flaps.
    I love mine. and i does get warm with the rain fly on. lol
    along with a nice air pad. it's a nice quick set up for those spur of the moment get away's.

    • @LivingCooper

      Thanks for watching and the comments/tips. It was my (Nana's) fault that we got water in the tent. I thought the shade that we put up over the entrance side was waterproof, not just a sunshade. When I did not zip it all the way the rain got in. Lesson learned! Yes, perfect tent for a quick get away.

    are there bars underneath that you lie on?

    • @LivingCooper
      @LivingCooper  3 роки тому

      Thanks for watching and asking a great question. Yes, there is a bar down the center (between the people). It really isn't a problem for us (Nana has back problems, she would know). However, we splurged and bought the self inflating mattress to go in it for additional comfort. With the mattress we can roll from side to side and not have any issues with the bar.

    Great review. I'm thinking of buying one of these for my wife and I. The only draw back that I can see is that bar in the middle. How can you cuddle with that? Is it in the way enough to be uncomfortable? With the mattress, is it still in the way? Is there any way it could be removed somehow? We are both getting old enough that sleeping on the ground is no longer fun.....and it's hard to get up again too! Ha!

    • @LivingCooper
      @LivingCooper  5 років тому +1

      Thanks for checking out our video! The bar in the middle is not that bad. I don't think you can remove it because it is structural support. The mattress really minimizes it, but it's still there. One way to compensate for it, that I use is to put foam floor mats on each side to build up each side. I got my mats at Harbor Freight, but here is an Amazon Affiliate link to the same thing. amzn.to/2E16o52 After using it the first time the nylon stretched a little and that when I decided to add the foam. We are right there with you, and my wife has a bad back, that's why we got one. We sure don't have problems "cuddling" 😉 in this tent. Check out our Big Bend Ranch video ua-cam.com/video/qIm40e8N910/v-deo.html We were freezing and definitely had to cuddle to stay warm, but it was well worth it. I hope this helps. Yes sir. You can use it just as a cot. When using it as cot, it has one end labeled as the head and you can raise it up to a reclined position. I didn't cover that too well, but it's a pretty cool feature.

      wldct69 thanks for checking out my video. There are bars that run width wise, but they are low and do not impinge on the cot itself. Aaron M thanks for checking out our video. We haven’t noticed any annoying sounds to us. However, that doesn’t mean that someone else wouldn’t find something annoying. The tent is really well constructed and when you tighten straps, it doesn’t creak and it’s very stable. What about screen door openings? I saw that you rolled up the door openings. But i did not see a screen door? Most cheap tents like ozark trail have like double doors. One is screen for hot summer nights to keep mosquitoes out but let air circulate. The second door is covered to keep out rain and wind. The windows are the same as well. Did this tent cot have that? Did i miss something? Here in Florida you want all your doors and windows to be screened. Thanks for your reply

    • @LivingCooper
      @LivingCooper  6 років тому

      Blake, Thanks for watching. I did not do a good job of showing the screens. Yes it has screens if you look at about 7:45 min mark, you can see the screen on one of the ends. It has the screen flap, then a nylon flap and finally a rainfly, if you put it on. I hear you about needing the screens. I grew up south of Houston and we had all the heat, humidity and mosquitoes y'all have in FL. Thanks again for watching. I hope this helps.

      All TentCots have no-see-um zippered netting. Absolutely bug-proof. By the way, closing those window flaps WILL NOT keep out rain! If you don't use the rain fly or separate tarp, you and your bedding WILL get soaked! Ask me how I know!

We hope to review this at some point, haven't had the chance yet. We have used ours (the one reviewed here) several times in different climates, altitudes and weather and have slept very well each time....ok, the trip to Big Bend Ranch State Park where we ended up with ice in our tent was uncomfortable but that was due to the temperature drop, not the cot tent. This definitely provides privacy! This summer when we took it to the Arkansas Crater of Diamonds we were rather close to a very loud group of campers that left their lights on all night. We had plenty of privacy. Do you use or recommend some other type of cot/tent that is off the ground that is comfortable? ......same here in Australia. I bought one S/h a few years ago as he could not tolerate the Bar down the middle........I put up with it as I love concept of the Unit itself ......but it’s stuffy with fly on , bad, bad, bad condensation in winter......and the bar is bloody annoying . Why, Why,WHY....do company’s not put some prototypes out into the world and get some Feedback to improve design before release .....and mind you in Australia these Cot Tents are not cheap !!...... nearly $500 AUD , and I had bought new , would have taken back and got a refund ...

    It looks good but I'm looking for one just a bit bigger so two full grown men have enough room to kick back and sleep in. If it was just for my wife and I it's perfect.

      Outdoor freedom it depends on how big you are. The two of us had more than enough room for us and our junk without being squished together. It was pretty close to the size of a full size mattress.

    They leak in a rain storm.

      Thanks for watching and commenting. In our experience, this didn't leak. Nana left the zippered side open to the run off on the tarp. It was total user error. Sorry that you had a bad experience.

      Dylan Cruz thanks for checking out my video. I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience with the Kamp-Rite. If you could share a little of your experience and reasoning, maybe it will help others that are looking at possibly buying. I know for us personally it has been a good tent. Thanks again for watching.
