the reason why the wet base or too much clear changes your colour is what we used to call the 'swimming pool effect' (I can't remember the correct terminology) but its the same as the pool looking darker at the deep end. even though the water is the same colour at the shallow end. nice video. keep up the good work.
Love that you did these vids on cromax pro, i started at a new shop today which runs this system, and im doing a 3 layer tomorrow morning.. cheers! hahaha
Ive never heard of Activating WB2091 (Wet Bed). No wonder you said it can be milky. The new way is to mix your colour then pour off a little bit, then cut your Colour or Ground Coat Reduction 50/50 with WB2091. This becomes your Blend Reduction, now with no Colour blender, use you Blend reduction first in your blend area, immediately go to your full colour and spray over your repair into the blend reduction. In other words, blend your full strengh colour into your colour blender. Now you can allow to dry, or a light bake so your not heating the vehicle up and have to wait for it to cool, before applying your unactivated WB2091, now you can go ahead and apply how much Mid-Coat you need including your Mid Coat Blend. Spray the Mid Coat wet like your base coat for a mottle free application. You will receive less mottle spraying wet. Hard to believe and kinda against the grain, but its true. Hope this helps you. Here in Canada Ive been Training and Spraying Crormax Pro for 9 years. Hope this helps you get through the process quicker with better results. Bye the way, the process with the Reduction coat rather than applying the wet bed twice was due to the odd hallow at times. Gives you a smoother transition from the hard edge you might receive from the full strength ground coat. Believe it or not, its much easier to apply than explain….wow, almost got a headache.
I been using cromaxpro for about 5 year now and I love the 3 stages . the way I do it 1. use you ground code (solid color) with wb2075 obviously but do not use wb2091 fist. 2. use the wb2091 and apply the pearl at 30% reduction . 3 clear . that will save you a lot of time and no dark edges .
sergiogist hi I paint PPG from many years now I changed to cromax but I follow the computer system the formula give me grand coat without 2075 and the pearl give me 2075 but after drying I put clear after backing at 60c the clear make like sand Pailin and look like fish eyes but not fish eyes because I sand it and make buffing becomes perfect not I use booth temperature 21c and I make air blowers ant temperature 30c before clear about half hour so what’s mistake I was make it ?????
You have to select solid reduction with 2075 as a ground color whe the computer ask you what reduction you want. Never select Pearl reduction with 2075. This guy use blender twice. You only use one time when you ready to apply the Pearl. You did backwards .
and yes the color blend does change the color on dark colors. I reduce the color blend out about 5to10%water and stay just a few inches away from the edge of the next panel ,and I never use it on black there is no need to .
Hi.. I just bought syrox waterbase paint mixing system...what can I use as wet bed ...people say binder but what is that is ther another term thanks in advance... gunman you motivated me to open my shop and I still watch your videos.. great work as always
Hey mate digging all your videos I am learning a shit load, thanks. Quick question for you about flow coats. How do you go about de nibing without having to polish the whole car? I know the idea with the flow coat is to have a finish off the gun without the need to cut and polish but if you get a few bits of shit in it what is your method to remove it and keep the same gloss level as the rest of the job that won't need polishing? Cheers Kiwi Mike
You can just denib the spots then glaze the entire car and wax it, it'll still look great and have a lot more depth and be flatter than if you didn't flow coat it.
I don't understand how the pearl is going to stick to the groundcoat if you've baked it, why do you need to do this ? I just painted a Nissan in 3 stage pearl white, the groundcoat was a lot brighter than the car, and by the time I manage to cover the groundcoat with the pearl it came out as a dark patch !
If you spray WB2091 wet like you should, it should look milky, its almost an indicator that you applied correctly. In med to low humidity. Now If your in very high humidity it might blush, or turn kinda white, In High Humidity use WB 2047 in your Colour it won’t blush and it actually helps it dry quicker in wet condition’s thats what its made for. There is also a High Humidity Colour Blender trick thats taught, add 10% WB2040 for High Humidity to help keep it wet. as well called WB2097. Ask your supplier or Rep for Humidity Charts for controllers and Blenders. You can treat them kinda like reducers to get you the best results and make you life easier. Paying attention to humidity is paramount with water base. It can change twice in a day. I had to spray some solvent the other day and it was pain full with the whole 3-4 coats with a flash between!
You're having trouble blending because with this water system, you want to reverse blend. You're supposed to put the wet bed and start with your blend then cover your repair area after and then control coat it. Also I'm pretty sure this is a 1.5 coat system. I use spies hecker which is I think is the same thing different label. I struggled at first too. It's very different. When you work it in reverse your blends and overspray is always landing somewhere wet. If you try to work your way out like you did in the video, the edge of your blend starts drying and your overspray starts standing up metallics.
+The Gunman good to hear that. I'm about to head to tafe here in Melbourne to do a certificate iii in painting and was last doing painting 5 years back
the standox method is to spray the repair with the ground coat then have some ground coat reduced 3parts color blend 1 part color and taper the ground coat out with the hardner.then go ahead and reverse blend your 2 to 3 coats of pearl over that ,I never use the color blend for white 3stage .just blend that ground coat out nice and it's super easy .then wet on wet your pearl and done .it's funny how the same product with a different name has so many different ways of spraying it
Are you from Australia, I've noticed different countries recommend different methods, probably partly to do with environmental conditions but also just a different take on the product I guess but whatever works.
no need to spray it out first is b.s. lol I've been spraying it for 9years I can tell you it's better/user friendly compared to all other water systems but like all of them you still should spray it out the color representation on a small chip is way different then on a actual spray out card people who say they don't do spray outs most likely don't know how to tint color so they just rock and roll with lower standards
I've always checked my colours in every paint system, a 2 minute colour card could save a lot of time and materials in a rework especially with the WA sun, 5 years and older the paint fades quite a bit so 90% of the time a tint is required on the cars I work on.
No couch crashing for you. You get teh guest room!! Your own bath, a queen sized bed, a window, ceiling fan. Top notch for Gunny!! Ski season comeing soon ;-)
Ill let you in on a secret, I use it all the time with White Tri-Coats for an amazing match. First you scuff an area with 1200-2000grt. Sand an area you need to match too Now if you have a Spectrometer such as Aquire RX, Aquire EFX or the new Quantum, Scan the sanded spot. This will give you an awesome Ground Coat Match, Use the VIN to get you the Mid-Coat. Normally 1 1/2 coats of wet mid will give you a great match. Ground coat match is were its at, Mid Coat means very little, now you need to polish the spot you sanded unless you scanned a prepped portion of the job. What we are trying to do is Fool The camera into thinking its a Solid Colour. If it chooses a Met then scuff and sand more, don’t force it to choose solid, let the scanner do its job. When a painter is having difficulty matching a colour I do thins all the time cause I don’t have the time to play with Chips, Spray-outs or tinting the ground coat. Hope this helps you. Once you have done it, you will be amazed at the match. Dam near paint a rear door only. Again, easier to do than exsplain.

No disrespect, but you pretty much sprayed the entire door and up to the pillar for a little repair on the dog leg. That why Axalta paint system sucks so bad. And baking in between. I feel bad for production painters using this paint. With that being said, u are a very good painter. My issue is with the paint not you. Cheers

How many coats of blender did you put on the panels.
+bongard1 lost count haha, plus an older vid now, they recommend using it before each coat.
Can you show us the TDS with our that recommendation.
Off topic hey gunny if you get a truck job like to see you spraying the rockers or somekind of upside down action
You mean using the PPS system under pressure so I can flip the gun upside down?
And do smash repairers still use 2 Pac systems
We do
+The Gunman good to hear that. I'm about to head to tafe here in Melbourne to do a certificate iii in painting and was last doing painting 5 years back

MR Muskey hi please can I call u I’m in Cananda I have some questions please
The wet bed screws your paint mils. Fine sand with 800 and no need for a wet bed. Dry tack between coats for ultimate cleanliness.

That happened on nearly every job I did when using this system, good thing I know how to colour match. I'm happily spraying Standox solvent now 😄
