      Always follow the TDS for the product YOU are using. Not what he's using. Some brands like axalta clears are 1 and half coats with no flash and others are 2 coats usually 5 to 10 minutes flash. Follow your TDS.

    • @toycoma98

      Finish1 720 clear can be sprayed 2 coats flash to hand slick or wet on wet limited flash 2 to 5 minutes between coats. I do wet on wet limited flash, Its like 1 coat but you go over it twice without waiting too long in between.

      What do you mean by run. ?

    • @kevinreyesphotography
      @kevinreyesphotography 5 років тому

      vag4l vevo when you run the clear or any material, it just means that the contents get a lot of build up in an area, and basically collect and spill/run over. It’s like a raindrop rolling down a window, just with paint instead. If you get the gun too close, or don’t move fast enough, you’ll run it.

    • @jasondamron1771
      @jasondamron1771 6 років тому +5

      Two fat wet coats is pretty standard for any clear. Most of the spot/panel clears we use are designed for a limited flash application. It's hard to get them slick if you don't put them on back to back. Solvent pop is an operator error problem.

    • @conservativerealist
      @conservativerealist 6 років тому

      dropinbiking92 yup.3 or4 coats that just wet out,not dry butsmall peel with some flash time seems to work.on a complete where we are really gonna go after it with cutting and rubing4 light, but still wet coats,and start with 800 or 1000 wet.then 1500,2000,2500,and 3000.in most jobs im using a hard bit flexible rubber squeegee,not foam,ans a block,and 1 or 2 of yhese grits will be on a d.a.with a soft backing pad,and those marks give me a "guide coat" for the next grit.

    • @conservativerealist
      @conservativerealist 6 років тому

      Jason Damron definately correct for production.if you got time,and plan on wet sanding flat,mostly in custom ,more light coats will be a higher build with less peel to take out..but if your doing collision your definately trying to get a clean job in 2 coats so you can match the factory finishes texture..ilolguess im stating the obvious.

    • @IssamBouhyane
      @IssamBouhyane 6 років тому +4

      That’s a horizontal panel, don’t worry about runs. If it was a vertical panel, you can not spray this way.

    • @chrisstratton3430
      @chrisstratton3430 6 років тому +15

      You can spray VERY VERY wet even on a vertical surface as long as the coats are top down and very very even. Just think of it like an ocean wave. The clear cannot flow over something that has the same height and mass more or less. So, you typically only get a run during a wet pass IF you have a heavy wet pass follow by a light pass. Then the 'wave' can flow over the shallow fluid below it. If all passes are relatively even as well as overlap, then there is no way because the level or depth of the clear coat is the same throughout and thus the entire coat flows as a single body giving you a glass finish in one shot. If you have no dust, you can damn near get a show quality finish this way. Almost no wet sanding and buffing needed .... ALMOST..

    I have a carbon fiber hood i need to clear coat when it warms up. Do you spray 75% overlays for all 2-3 coats or 50/50 for the first then 75%? And what size tip is recommended? Ive heard a 1.3 tip is used for clear with 28-30 psi.

    • @TheGunmanRAW
      @TheGunmanRAW  6 років тому +2

      +Mandy Nicole honestly don't know what % my overlap is, it's just whatever feels right I never measure the overlap but the same should be used for both coats. Yep, 1.3mm tip at 29psi is what you saw me use in this vid for glass results 💎

    • @benttt12
      @benttt12 6 років тому

      Standard is 50% overlap but everyone sprays different and has there technique's . Not all clear coat is the same and have limitations compared to others. This guy applied about twice as much clear coat in one coat then I would normally but he clearly know's his limitations with this exact clear. Most clear needs a flash time between coats 15-20 minutes, while others I have used only call out a 30 sec- 5 minutes flash time, This is why this guy is able to go more or less back to back with the coats and does not have any issues as far as runs and application issues. Tip would be 1.3 - 1.4.

    • @tommyslicks8755
      @tommyslicks8755 5 років тому

      Most clears should have 80% to 90% overlap. All products are different. Always follow the TDS for the product YOU are using for proper application procedures.

    ah. Didn't know their standard clear was a voc. That makes sense than. ha, lost in the terminology. Generally when people in the states, or at least in NY/NJ, refer to a 'standard' clear, theyre referring to an ms clear that doesn't require reducing. A low voc or high solids clear are just called HS clears 9/10 times. Doesn't seem to be much emphasis on the use of low voc in the states outside of California.

Wipe the piece well with water before spraying and wipe it with the rag of wiping, but do not give me a good result. The dust collects on the car surfaces and this requires a polishing pasta for the car. What is the solution in order for the car to appear smooth?

    You really do enjoy that cheap ani gunny.. Thinking about ordering one, I use a 4500 mini for clear only, bumpers, jams, or single panels. Devilbiss SRI for small blends with base or clear its a true work horse. I get the impression the ANI 150 will be in between my sata and devilbiss mini guns

    Which air cap do you have on? T110? TE20? and the more air pressure means the smoother (no-orange peel) finish? btw your videos always make me want to go out and paint some sh*t!

    Wooow really dont get how you dont get any clear pileup on the edges. And with no waiting bettwen coats. I use a nitrotherm machine for painting and would get all sort of solvent pop with clear dripping down the edges if i put even half of that second coat over a hood. I mean probably 2 coats wouldnt habe the same thickness as only 1 coat in this vid. It just goes to show how different enviroments and conditions allows for some totaly different techniques. I have been saying for at least 5 years that there is no right technique as long as the end result looks good. Anyways nice vid m8

      . its the gun. The fluid control. The fan width. The pressure. Should be around 29 psi. And the Atmosphere. Most old school painters wouldnt attempt a show quality paint Job unless it was 80 degrees outside. Living in Australia its always very warm which helps the clear flow properly. Also its most likely a high solids clear like a quartz liquid glass or a Spies Hecker or PPG d894 all top of the line stuff and well engineered to flash off quick and layup or lay down 30 seconds apart on the coats in some cases.
      For best results A Devil is GTI pro lite 1.3 tip size and a TE 20 air cap. I dont recognize this gun used in the video.
