One of the greatest shows of all time. Imagine a bunch of twenty-somethings gathering in a tiny efficiency apartment in southeast Tennessee to get high and watch Red Dwarf on Georgia Public Broadcasting in the late nineties every Saturday night. That was us. Gods bless the boys from the 'Dwarf.
Last time this sort of thing happened, Rimmer got turned into a peace-loving hippie singing "All You Need is Love" as they tried to catch the genetic mutant.
@LAHrebirth By definition heroes die - that's pretty much what defined them in Greek myth, and continues to this day - plus it's kinda cool that Ace's death gave rise to the legend which in turn ensures the redemption of every Arnold J Rimmer in the multiverse. Now that's a truly noble and epic tale. :)
Thanks, I found out after I watched this clip 3 weeks ago. I wouldn't mind being a hardlight hologram, being able to touch stuff but being invinsible and all that.
0:06 Love how the big can of beans says "BEINZ BAKED BEANS". Probably to avoid some sort of copyright infringement despite being in the style of HEINZ BAKED BEANS cans.
Because the BBC is entirely public funded, it isn't (or wasn't) allowed to produce anything that could be interpreted as advertising a brand or product. So brand names in dramas. comedies, and even some other programmes, were changed. "Sellotape" became "Sticky tape", "Martins Bank" became "Swallows Bank" etc. Even Top Cat was referred to in continuity announcements and the Radio Times as "Boss Cat" (although the theme tunes, titles and dialogue in the cartoon were unchanged) because at the time there was a cat food called "Top Cat"!
I wonder what my reaction to Duane and Ace was when I first saw this episode? Probably nothing, as Series 6 was my first series, so back then I had no idea who they were - I probably didn't even know Cat and Rimmer well enough to realize they were out of character in those scenes either. In fact, I even remember when I started to get more familiar with Red Dwarf, (but had still seen very little) that I misremembered these changes in appearances to be actual disguises for some reason, but I later saw "Back to Reality" and "Dimension Jump" and then this episode again, and it all made sense (if I recall correctly.) I saw "Pollymorph" before those episodes (but after this one) but can't remember how much that cleared up for me, other than knowing that they did the shapeshifter before this episode.
He probably did, Chris Barrie then probably fluffed his lines immediately after so they used the second or third take of Ace appearing. Not that i'm having a go, Chris smegging up usually provides utter gold.
Ace Rimmer was my hero back in the 90s when I was in flight school. I got a picture doing the Ace Rimmer pose in front of Grumman Cheetah I was training in. good days. I still find myself using Smeg from time to time.
@GiratinaofFury It did Lister lost his fear and wanted to strap a nuke to his head and headbutt it and Kryters lost his human compassion and was willing to sacrifice them for his own benefit .
A nice throwback but style and coolness aren't emotions. To suck out Rimmers fear to make ace makes more sense and is quite appropriate considering Ace is the polar opposite of what the Polymorph turned him into last time.
Ace Rimmer...what a guy!!!
Duane Dibley ...what Not such a guy!
Man, I would SO watch a spin-off series starring Ace Rimmer! :-)
What a g...show!
b2cool412tame
If you ever read the Red Dwarf Smegazine you would know what occurred to Deb Lister after meeting Ace Rimmer.
And Duane Dibbley
The credits should just be everyone as Ace Rimmer, but have their real names in quotation marks, between ace and rimmer
From America and I watch Red Dwarf as a Child on the public Access network. The Dwayne Dibley episodes were my absolute favorite 😂🤣😆😁
Genius comedy. How 2 great characters transform into 2 great characters in 2 minutes
"It may have outsmarted you, but that emohawk's gonna have to get up pretty darn early in the a.m. to outsmart old Arny J!" Love that line!
"just leave the thinking to me keyboard teeth" hahahaha pmsl
‘Just leave the thinking to me, keyboard teeth’ 😂😂😂😂😂
There's something heart-warming about Duane saying, "What a guy."
Duane Dibbley! The most epic dork ever!
Duane Dibbley? I thought that was Elton Johns real name.
@@admiralackbar9307 that would be Reginald Dwight
Duke of DORK!
I love the reaction Kat gives when he looks at the pan to see he's turned into Dwayne Dibblely, pure gold.
The duke of dork - love that line
Ace Rimmer, what a guy.
"Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast"
Still just as funny years later, good memories of watching this with my family.
me and my dad cannot just stop repeating what ace says. Lol
I love British comedy!! The actors, jokes/gags are allowed to get older. In the States after 5-6 years their out!
Jokes about men's wive's haircuts are completely off the table now

That sounds amazing!
Man that takes me back. Red Dwarf on GPB. Good times.
One person went to click like, but Dibblied it up.

Greeting from France
Bonjour Garlic teeth …🧄😬
What a guy
Ah I love Dwayne. Favourite character.
it did, but Duane and Ace were such great characters they had to think of a way to bring them back, this evidently was it, great idea too
"Leave the thinking to me, Keyboard Teeth" gotta love these insults
BEST EPISODE EVER
Then I stride in and it's the return of the Legend!
I'm surprised Ace Rimmer didn't get a round of applause as well!
Apparently the live taping audience lost it when he appeared, and they had to edit it out becuase it went on for too long!
I think I'm in love with Dwayne Dibley! ♥
Stoke me a clipper, I'll be back for Christmas!
0:48
I love this part right here.
Specifically because you can hear a woman shout "Duane!" in the audience.
It's gonna have to get up pretty darn early in the a.m. to outsmart Arnie J.
Why does Cat even have Duane Dibley clothes to change into?
I didn't dislike but it appears that two people have. They must be smeeeeeee heeeeeeeas.
Last time this sort of thing happened, Rimmer got turned into a peace-loving hippie singing "All You Need is Love" as they tried to catch the genetic mutant.
That time it got his anger.
@@IceWolfLoki - "ALPHA BETTI SPAGHETTI?!?!?" 🤣

Imagine telling cowardly Rimmer he had his hands on the horrible monster, mangled it, and tossed it in the trash. 🤣
Just the best ♥️
Arnie J! LoL

my god i love duane dibley
What a guy!!! :)
What would Dave and Kryten have turned into if the Emohawk got them?
That is too terrible to even think about...
Dave probably would have turned into some boring old fart who’s no fun to be around; not sure what Kryten would have turned into.
@@Aurochhunter Lister.
@@sacrificiallamb4568 Yes, the character’s name is David Lister.

''What A Guy'' hahaha
All hail the Duke of Dork!
What I find sweet is that Rimmer did the potential to become Ace. Making that s7 episode much better
I love ace rimmer :D

Duane Dibbley! AHHH!!!
❤ red dwarf,
Been hopink to see this, thank you UA-cam. Oh.....is that really a keyboard, computer user? Or a mouse?
Funny thing is the Duane Dibley haircut is all the go now
Shut the front door! Didn’t stiller’s movie persona character in Tropic Thunder sport the same cut? 🤣

Ahhhhh.......thanks mate..will check it out........must have missed that one.....cheers!
Duane gets an applause, yet Ace doesn't.
Funny old universe, ain't it?
They edited the part where Ace walks into the shot. That was a loud, sustained reaction.
Actually the initial reaction was so loud the scene had to be reshot
@@rufusgoldstein2655 came on here to say that lol
Back when Red Dwarf was still good.
Ahh, the good old days! Just like a drug, every high comes with its lows.

How come Rimmer can hold that gun if he's a hologram?
He’s in hard light mode, which means he can pick things up.

There were 2, one were the cat lost his self respect/ego. The back to reality, then this one.

@Hutcarlingos let me guess, your american?
I think I understand why so many British actors come to the US for work 😂
@johnboyleeds No when Rimmer becomes Ace he says Stoke me a Clipper I'll be back for Christmas
Smoke me a kipper, surely?
No, because our Rimmer isn’t Ace, so he says it differently.
