I was 14 when I started my Queensrÿche journey. 40 yrs later I’m still listening to them regularly and rocking on my drum kit. In order of greatness - Mindcrime, Empire, Promised Land, Rage for Order
Queensryche lead guitarist Chris DeGarmo, who was the principal songwriting geniuses behind their music said he will never rejoin Queensrÿche, and appears to want nothing to do with the music industry anymore. Without Chris, there is no more Queensryche. Geoff Tate may be a great singer, but he tried to make his wife and daughter official members of the band, and that’s what created all the problems that led to the breakup of the band. What kind of a fool works to make his band one of the world’s greatest bands, and then from out of nowhere, starts demanding that his band accept his wife and daughter as official band members. The music Geoff made with his wife and daughter under the banner of Queensryche was horrific. Geoff Tate is angry with everyone for not bowing down to his wife and daughter. The arrogance & narcissism from Geoff. Queensryche is dead and gone, .... forever. Please let them stay dead, and stop pestering Geoff Tate as though he is the one that's preventing everyone from getting back together. Before you convince Geoff to reform the band, ... you have to convince Chris. Chris has made repeated statements that he will NEVER rejoin Queensryche, and won't even say way. Chris does not appear to be seething with anger like Geoff Tate is, .... but it is clear that Chris is done with the band. ...

I was lucky enough to see them live during the Warning tour they opened for kiss.Kiss was touring the animalize album it was at Stabler arena in Bethlehem Pa
I think Geoff Tate IS the standard that other rock vocalists could be measured against! His range was off the charts! I always considered him to basically be the best of the best - operatic even! Lady Wore Black is one of the greatest rock songs in history.
Huge fan of Mr. Tate. I've seen him live after Queensryche 4 times, and I got to meet him after one of the shows - just a solid nice guy, and very intelligent as you would expect.
For me, you are the best singer in the world. I have been a fan since your first EP and was devastated when original Queensryche split up. BUT, I love you Geoff and I do love the current Queensryche. I love the music...will always do.
Saw them 16 times in the 30 years they were together including once in Japan, in 88 while stationed there in the military, my favorite band of all time , heard "Queen of the Reich",back 83, I was hooked, I was 18 years old , ahh the memories 🤗♥️🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Geoff, YOU are the MAN. Thank you, and I mean THANK YOU for the years you Did give. Such a severe impact on me and my life at the time, and I'm talking early 80's. "Without you", there's NEVER be the legacy of Queensryche. More power to you, and again, thank you good Sir
I remember standing in line at Tower Records in Bellevue behind a lady my mothers age who bought up all the Queensryche albums. It turns out it was one of the band members mother and she wanted to had out records to her friends. It was cool seeing how proud mom was of her son.
I have enjoyed your music since the early days in Seattle. We each have to leave unhealthy relationships and bridge out on our own. Saw Geoff at the Canyon Club in Santa Clarita last year and he was phenomenally awesome!! No more questions, just move forward... No blame game... Just sing ♥️🤘
As a veteran musician and what I learned in the last 40 years, us musicians don't know how to reconcile our emotions. We have too much anger issue...and we can never forgive anyone. Maybe it's our musician-character thing(?)...or maybe it's in our DNA? Lol. Whatever it is, every band I left were always ended a bitter relationship. In the last 2 to 3 decades, I had not contacted anyone (vice versa). So....I do understand what Geoff's saying. Sometimes it's better going forward without reuniting. This is how it is.
To this day, the album Queen Of The Reich and Warning are the most profound metals vocals of all time. Perhaps the only comparable is Crimson Glory (1986 Album which is grossly underrated since its production). Followed by Sanctuary. Prove me wrong
Hey! Great video! Starting in ‘99 i was lucky to work with the whole band on the Q2K album/tour cycle. They were the most pleasant, most professional down to earth guys. Susan had recently taken the reigns as manager and had nothing but positive dealings with everybody, at least on the label side. I remember them doing a fantastic headline run then tour with Judas Priest and all was “hunky dory”, but I guess that didn’t last…
@@keyguy4752 What are you? 12? I knew he spelled his last name wrong but who cares. Also the band was trying to keep up with grunge garbage because albums like The Warning or Empire weren’t going to sell anymore. Don’t be a 🤡
Great questions and even greater framing of those questions. I'm happy to see Geoff has lightened up about the ending. I love Queensryche now with Todd and I love Queensryche with Geoff as well. All is good now, thankfully.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he kicked out of the band, partially because his wife was the band's manager and was using the band's money for another project?
I met this guy in Jacksonville Florida when they opened for Metallica. I was there to see Metallica. One song into their opening set and I was a lifetime fan. But I get his point. Sometimes it is better to leave the past in the past and forgive, and move on...
Who is asking Geoff to come back in the first place? The real Queensryche is the best the band has been since the Mindcrime era. All Geoff has to do is look in the mirror as to why things blew up. And it isn't his band to get back together in the first place. I have been there since the EP was released and love what Geoff did up to a certain point. But goodness Geoff, take some responsibility here. You were THE biggest headache and THE biggest reason you got canned! I wouldn't pay a penny for a reunion that would take the band in the opposite direction. Todd has done a spectacular job with the band and the last four albums are incredible. This ship sailed a long time ago. Move on!
Let’s be honest; Tate was initially a hired gun. Well known in the PNW as a phenomenal singer, already in a great band that he loved being the vocalist within. Once the EP took off, he signed on as permanent vocalist for QR. but at the end of the day, it has always been about Geoff, and not about DeGarmo and Wilton. His ego is massive, and i doubt anyone can exist in his orbit for very long. And, don’t get me wrong- Tate is the reason i became a singer. I spent years building my vocal range, using his albums, and the teachings of Maestro David Kyle as my template. I’ve met GT several times, and he’s been fine as a person. I’ve opened up for his solo project, and his band were great guys. But he definitely has had lead singer disease for ages, and it’s an incurable affliction. I doubt anyone in QR would knowingly subject themselves to going right back into Geoff Tate mode, unless the check was huge. I mean, epic huge money.. sadly, they don’t have the epic appeal of a Kiss reunion, or something of that sort, to justify a reunion. He’s fine where he is. His voice is still working well- better, since he stopped drinking so much and smoking- his live band is great, and he seems happy. I say we leave them be, and just appreciate the massive contribution they had on progressive metal, as well as inspiring young singers like myself to push their abilities to be the best they could.
Tate gave it his all with Queensryche. Once DeGarmo left the writing was on the wall. They would never reach the same creative dynamic again. We can't ask anything more. We are blessed we got all this wonderful music, live shows, and Mindcrime. I wish Tate and DeGarmo the best with whatever they choose to do.
Just went to Queensryche concert and there singer was awesome. We had a really great time and they were awesome. I would definitely go to another concert. 😊
one of the BEST bands I have ever seen live. They brung it during the Empire tour in 91. I am so happy I got to see them live. Sadly, ego's and interband family turmoil got in the way. Rockenfield clocked out a long time ago. I really enjoyed his playing but he seemed like he checked out. DeGarmo saw the light a long time ago. And I can just imagine that Tate can have an ego. They were an amazing band. I wish them all well.
I met this man in the early 1980’s when I was in a Metal band . They were not known yet . They were at a bar in Connecticut on like a Thursday night , lol . Blinding snowstorm ; and we waited to meet him at their Silver Eagle tour bus in the parking lot after the short show . He was totally cool and the leader of our band gave him a cassette tape of two songs that we had recorded at a studio . A memory I’ll have forever … Classy interview - no negative mudslinging . Peace ☮️
When a band gets old, the stage presence is gone, the music is no longer created nor the musicians or vocalist doesn't sound like they once did then it's time to hang it up. I understand the need to keep going because of the paycheck, but the band becomes a parody of what it once was. Age is a real thing.
Try telling this to Anne Wilson or Cyndi Lauper. Both still sing the same they did in their primes. Tate lost some ability, but still retains his tone, which is honestly what set him apart from other singers. I'd still rather listen to him than put myself through the agony of latorre.
It's not that Geoff will never reunite with queensryche! It's that queensryche will never have you back in the band after you did everything you could to destroy that band! Now you can go play your crap music that you love and play it for your 100 followers! I'm glad they finally booted your ass out of the band, now they're rocking better and harder than they have in years!

I visit still and often wonder if I moved back would it be the same? Definitely not. It’s the same as Geoff is explaining.. He is totally on point.. Life has its special times for us all.
@seamus2112ophelan No Tate was what made that band. Sometimes members can be replaced and no one notices because maybe they weren't that special. Geoff is that special.

@@kelle0285 Quiet Riot, now they rocked it pretty well for a couple years. In 1981 I became a huge Ozzy fan after he had gone solo
and had plucked Randy Rhodes away from Quiet Riot and Ozzy and the front man from Riot, I forget his his name atm, he passed away a few years ago now we're having a pretty mean spirited war of words for awhile over Rhodes

Love Geoff & Always will, it’s also awesome that Queensryche found Todd & have carried on & doing well 🤘🏻
Don't think they the other guys would ever want him back in the band. It's over and done....SAD😮. They were AWESOME 😎💯... BACK IN The Day ....😊.... Got to see them like 9 times. All Original line up.... INCREDIBLE EVERY Single Time..😎👍👍
I went to see the newer line up when they came to my area. This is after seeing them a number of times to include right before they broke up. This was the only concert I walked out of. The last time I saw Tate was 2 years ago in Boise. He blew me away. I enjoyed it so much I lost my voice for 4 days.
He's not wrong. Good questions. Nice to hear the man's opinion. Queensryche are still kicking ass with Todd.
Queensryche was over when Chris Degarmo left
Exactly.....he was the force behind the band...Chris is doing very well with his wife and family in Washington state.
And had already been in steep decline prior to the end of Degarmo's tenure.
Thank you. 😌
@@termsofusepoliceZakly. After “Empire”, nope.
It frustrates me to no end how much it seems DeGarmo and Tate aren’t recognized as most of their contemporaries as a great force behind the band…
I was 14 when I started my Queensrÿche journey. 40 yrs later I’m still listening to them regularly and rocking on my drum kit. In order of greatness - Mindcrime, Empire, Promised Land, Rage for Order
They are fun to play drums to. It takes me a week or two to get it memorized and solid. Scott was a good influence in my playing.

I'm pleased to hear that Geoff, and the rest of the guys have come to a sort of peace about the breakup, and that they can be civil to each other.
You didn't listen to this video then.
Oh man! What a run they had! They wrote some extraordinary music together for sure..all the right elements came together in the classic Queensryche lineup!
I grew up absolutely loving Queensryche, and without Geoff there is no such thing as Queensryche. Geoff one of the greatest, recognizable, vocals of all time. I absolutely love you Geoff ❤
He was a great front man for a great band. I miss the Mindcrime / Empire days.
Very sane and simple. I appreciate this candid chat.
Was lucky enough to see them twice and they were phenomenal each time
Underrated singer with a great voice. Queensryche were s great band as well
Very calm, mature, honest and respectful with his answers. Very good to see in this current climate.
I was lucky enough to see them live during the Warning tour they opened for kiss.Kiss was touring the animalize album it was at Stabler arena in Bethlehem Pa
I saw them on the Warning Tour, opening for Iron Maiden in 1984. Mecca arena in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The interview is conducted extremely well.
Being extraordinarily difficult to work with and a narcissist I don't see why the others would want that.
I think Geoff Tate IS the standard that other rock vocalists could be measured against! His range was off the charts! I always considered him to basically be the best of the best - operatic even! Lady Wore Black is one of the greatest rock songs in history.
Ummm, I'm pretty sure it's a case of them never wanting to play with him again
ummmm wrong
I've heard that Geoff was a little hard to deal with at the end there of the band
Huge fan of Mr. Tate. I've seen him live after Queensryche 4 times, and I got to meet him after one of the shows - just a solid nice guy, and very intelligent as you would expect.
Operation Mindcrime one of my favorite albums of all time! Highly underrated!
It is not underrated.

Mindcrime is actually highly rated and admired by many, many people.
Pretty classy response. Respect to GT.
😎
I remember standing in line at Tower Records in Bellevue behind a lady my mothers age who bought up all the Queensryche albums. It turns out it was one of the band members mother and she wanted to had out records to her friends. It was cool seeing how proud mom was of her son.
I used to play the hell out of this cassette. At work ..saw them once play with Metallica in 1989 in Nassau in New York.
For me the greatest vocalist ever.
What an amazing band they were. So talented. 80s hair rock was the best era of music ever.
You can get over all of that, its usually ego and realizing that you have peaked and you will never reach that level again.
One of my favorite singers and favorite bands! Rock on brother! “Queen of the Reeeiiiiiickkkk 🎶 🤘 “
To this day, the album Queen Of The Reich and Warning are the most profound metals vocals of all time.
Perhaps the only comparable is Crimson Glory (1986 Album which is grossly underrated since its production).
Followed by Sanctuary.
Prove me wrong
Saw them at the end ... they did the whole Mindcrime album. The last of the best of them. The truth is DeGarmo gone is the end.
Mindcrime ….as an album….. will never be eclipsed. I don’t need more. They had a time and they gave it all. Isn’t that enough?
Hey! Great video! Starting in ‘99 i was lucky to work with the whole band on the Q2K album/tour cycle. They were the most pleasant, most professional down to earth guys. Susan had recently taken the reigns as manager and had nothing but positive dealings with everybody, at least on the label side. I remember them doing a fantastic headline run then tour with Judas Priest and all was “hunky dory”, but I guess that didn’t last…
There is no Queensryche without Geoff and DiGarmo.
Agreed!!
@@ellisonlowrimore7751 Well Geoff was responsible for the worst Queensryche albums ever made and it's DeGarmo you poser.

I love everything from the first Ep through and including Promised Land. A couple of songs on Q2K I like too. I totally agree with him about Guns N Roses.

Geoff and Chris were the soul of QR
The Original Queensryche Members, is what made Queensryche
Seeing Geoff and his band live in South Australia a year or so ago was amazing. He is fantastic. cheers
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he kicked out of the band, partially because his wife was the band's manager and was using the band's money for another project?
What he means to say is “all alone now, except for the memories….of what we had, and what we knew”
Every time I try to leave it behind me, I see some (fan) that reminds me of you-ou-ou 😝
They had a great live show, one of the best.
Second only to Maiden, which, coincidentally, I saw Queensryche open for them, so I was able to compare directly.
Move on!
enjoy Toadryche nobody thinks its QR but morons
I saw them so many times in the 80s and early 90s absolutely amazing live band
You're awesome, Geoff!
His voice was the key to that band
Chris was lead pick and backing vocal quite often, don't forget partner
Tate gave it his all with Queensryche. Once DeGarmo left the writing was on the wall. They would never reach the same creative dynamic again. We can't ask anything more. We are blessed we got all this wonderful music, live shows, and Mindcrime. I wish Tate and DeGarmo the best with whatever they choose to do.
The best Queensryche albums were made with DeGarmo and Tate now Queensryche is just a tribute band
Yeah I absolutely agree 🤘
Have you even listened to Condition Human?
The new music is every bit as good as the old stuff.
A memory I’ll have forever …
Classy interview - no negative mudslinging .

Operation mindcrime...would be one hell of a damn good movie come on hollywood...DO IT.
I've been saying that for years
We are living it. Dr. Evil....um i mean Trump.....and his cult trying to burn it all down so he can be a dictator.
I love the album, but always thought it was very similar to a B movie called Videodrome starring James Wood.
Geoff is the greatest singer in the world! Geoff was Queensryche! Hoping to see him in the Philly area again in 2025!
Queensryche ended when DeGarmo left. The current "band" is a shell of what it was.
Saw him twice here in Az up close. He is incredible. Hope he comes back...
When a band gets old, the stage presence is gone, the music is no longer created nor the musicians or vocalist doesn't sound like they once did then it's time to hang it up. I understand the need to keep going because of the paycheck, but the band becomes a parody of what it once was. Age is a real thing.
Grace slick said in an interview she didn’t want to be an old lady still on stage trying to sing like she’s 25
Try telling this to Anne Wilson or Cyndi Lauper. Both still sing the same they did in their primes. Tate lost some ability, but still retains his tone, which is honestly what set him apart from other singers. I'd still rather listen to him than put myself through the agony of latorre.
311 kinda destroys the picture you're trying to paint here unfortunately.
@@the-dave-house-project I was thinking the exact same thing.

It's not that Geoff will never reunite with queensryche! It's that queensryche will never have you back in the band after you did everything you could to destroy that band! Now you can go play your crap music that you love and play it for your 100 followers! Geoff’s opening comments make me reflect on my childhood and in the period from February 1976 to October 1979 I was 10 to nearly 14 years old. The best time of my life .. You beat me to it. It died when Chris left.
Rockenfield was always good, but the snare sound and playing on the Mindcrime album is a clinic
