Had Sykes done the "WS '87" tour, instead of just the album,John Sykes would've blown TF up IMO. Just yesterday I saw a comment giving Viv Campbell credit for the guitar parts on WS 87,despite not playing one note. Coverdale fired the entire band prior to that tour. From what I've heard there was a bit of a power struggle brewing between him and Sykes, who can write, arrange, perform, play incredible guitar and sing with the best of them! So it makes sense he'd get sent packing. If you dig JS,but have never listened to the debut Blue Murder album I highly recommend giving it a listen. The entire album is incredible!
Listen to the Blue Murder album and it's like a sequel to WS87, what could've been if Sykes had stayed in WS. Lots of reports of what went on, but it's interesting to wonder.
He likes to think he was a instrumental figure with every major event in rock music. He is a legend in his on mind. He even argues with his younger brother Vinny on how their last name should be pronounced!

He is one of the best that came out of the 80s and always will be one of mine. JOHN, PLEASE RELEASE THE ALBUM YOU HAVE FINISHED!!!
I went to Toronto in '89 for 3 weeks and saw Blue Murder at Rock n Roll Heaven. As they never toured the UK I must be 1 of a handful of Brits to see them live.
At some point, i recall reading that Mike Portnoy and John Sykes were trying to get something going. I heard that Mike had to walk away from it because things weren't happening with John. A damn shame! Come back, John!
Carmine needs to call Eddie Trunk in order to get in contact with John and get that album he finished in 2018 and release it or redo that with Carmine and Tony because he has such a great guitar sound that no one else has and weither or not he knows this, but he has a huge fan base all over the world. Come on John get back in the game man.
I met Blue Murder when they were rehearsing in the valley when I delivered their flight cases(A&S) before the tour. Tony played a bad note and John gave him "The Look".
100%. The Whitesnake rebuke and lack of support by the record label for Blue Murder took their toll. He was my biggest influence as a guitar hobbyist (I can't say I'm a guitar player) and his playing literally saved my life as a pre-teen and teenager battling against domestic violence, physical violence and sexual abuse. One day I'd like to shake his hand and say "thank you Sir".
John Sykes did try to get the record co to replace David Coverdale. He probably thought Whitesnake could be his band. I liked Blue Murder's debut album, but John Sykes isn't David Coverdale, even though he thought he was.
Coverdale was a long established legend and it was HIS band that he started 10 years prior. Sykes became a legend but you don't step on the existing legends toes and try to steal their band when you have only participates in 1 album before that and are a hired gun. If they had jointly started Whitesnake together 10 years earlier, John have might have had a leg to stand on. I also highly doubt it was coverdale's fault that the Blue Murder album did not do as well as it should have. Record companies are in business solely to make money and I highly doubt that they're going to turn that down for somebody's personal request...regardless of who they are. The reason the second album didn't make it was because it was not nearly as good as the first in fact I'll argue that it wasn't good at all
I saw them live in Noblesville Indiana with Bon Jovi and it was outstanding man. They played an acoustic that was just killer! I think it was blue murder, winger and bon jovi I believe, or maybe Cinderella. I can't remember, this was like 89 or 90..

It's funny, Carmine Appice always did everything, all the ideas for the best sounding ,and biggest selling albums always came from him somehow. Let's ask David Coverdale if he even thought of Carmine playing in WS, i highly doubt it. This guy turned down all the top projects and never made it to the mountain top.
John was one of my big influences. Loved his style since his Tigers of Pantang days. He really hit his peak in Whitesnake but I guess he just had enough of it all and that's why we don't hear from him anymore.
I still hope for the revival of Blue Murder. My light of hope is John Sykes, Tony Franklin, and Carmine Appice. I have never felt such an impact before! I remember the excitement as if it were yesterday. From Japan with love...
His playing on Thin Lizzy's Thunder and Lightning is another classic. No more word on the record deal he had with Australian record label believe called Little Robot . So sad he has not down nothing for years, apart from that one song bought out a few years back.
Blue murder was a killer album. I wore that shit out. But he was right. Grunge came in shortly after. I never got it. The two cassettes I played all the time in the mid to late 80s into the early 90s was blue murder and Faith Hope love by Kings X. I was hoping that rock ‘n’ roll would feed off of those two albums but neither one of them got much Radio play and I just never got it. It wasn’t until later I realized corporate radio decided what got played and they continue to play the same old worn out shit they had always played plus this new grunge thing that I just never connected with. Blue murder and I will say Kings X as well are musicians bands. Too good for Radio and above most peoples heads. Might sound elitist, but I truly feel that way.
Buddy Rich also wanted him to replace him. Also Queen asked him to replace Freddie on Bohemian Rhapsody and his version of Eruption on VH1 was replaced by Eddie at the last minute.
John is done, let’s face it. He’s probably still getting royalties from the 87 album that’s sustaining him enough to just keep sitting on his ass. Leave him be. Dude was a legend but unfortunately lost all passion for the craft
BLUE MURDER'S LP WAS THE BEST LP OF 1989!!! AND IS ONE OF BEST METAL RECORDS PERIOD!!! THE WHITESNAKE 1987 SOUND WAS JOHN SYKES'S SOUND!!! AFTER SYKES LEFT COVERDALE BROUGHT IN VAI, & VANDEBERG TO TRY TO REPLICATE THAT SOUND. JOHN SYKES BASICALLY WAS WHITESNAKE!!!
I gotta agree with Carmine on this one. Sykes should have pushed the Jelly Roll song. Its got that catchy main stream signature. Chicks love it, could have been an anthem. Would have got alot more looks. Valley is a great song but it ain't no #1. And BM doesn't have the fan base and success like a Metallica for a heavy rock tune to chart
Not counting his very brief stint as a touring drummer for Ozzy's band Carmine was a member of only one even remotely "major" act - and that was the one-hit wonder (cover) band Vanilla Fudge. His brother Vinny was in both Dio AND Sabbath. But according to Carmine he turned down opportunities to be in multiple platinum-selling groups. 😀
Here in the UK I remember back in 1979 (?) when John Sykes left The Tyler's of Pan Tang,I was really interested to see what was next as to me,he was going to be the next guitar hero.Sadly it appears that just like Glenn Hughes, the weight of his ego and the almost messiah like complex he carried with him became his worst enemy. As with Hughes he had no humility,no being humble but was a victim of his own self inflated ego.
There’s an interview with Phil Collins who talks about John Sykes auditioning for Def Leppard. IMO JS playing what would likely be mostly rhythm guitar would be a complete waste of JS talents
Oh yes, we all know..Carmine did everything everywhere all the time forever.. Jesus was missing a line in the Sermon on the Mount, he called up Carmine..
Bands that Appice was offered the drums spot but could not accept due to other contracts Cream Kinks Stones Yardbirds Who Purple Uriah Heep Led Zeppelin Saxon Judas Motörhead Maiden Dio (Before some other guy in the family of course) MSG Whitesnake Sabbath Rainbow The Firm Scorpions AC/DC Styx Foreigner Heart Boston ELO Free Alice Cooper Guns n roses KISS Dokken Quiet riot. And then he woke up and became the president of his own fan club... :)
Blue Murder,s record label was the same as Whitesnake,s . Do you know what i think? That David Coverdale sabotaged all of Blue murder,s chances of having huge success with the sales of their first album
Facts are facts. John and Tony still work together, and they do not want Carmine apart of it. It is Coverdale and Appice that Sykes hates the music world so much. He loves to play, he loves the fans, he hates the buisness side and this asshole is a major reason why.
The ONLY record better than the Blue Murder debut is the Badlands debut. Ray Gillan could've been in Blue Murder for a minute, that would've been epic. But then again no perfect Badlands lp so...
Count me as a guy who was blown away by Jake's playing and writing on the two Ozzy records... and then was MASSIVELY disappointed the first time I heard that Badlands debut. But I guess Jake was following his heart towards blues rock and away from metal. And Ray was a poor man's Coverdale - and I never even liked Coverdale. But to each their own. It's all in the ear of the beholder.
@@alexkorakov4722 sorry, I guess I misunderstood your comment, I was lucky enough to see cozy a few times back in the 70s and early 80s with rainbow when Dio was on board, he’s one of my favorite drummer of all time, I loved to watching him, the guy was amazing, I once went to see Aerosmith at a casino in New Jersey and Joey Kramer was sick, cozy filled in, that was awesome too
John seems to be his own worse enemy, there have been many super talented musicians who have allowed their personal demons to limit what they might have achieved.
John Sykes, an amazing guitarist who shouldve been even bigger.
Yeah Man - he could do it all. Watching old videos of Sykes is mind blowing!
I wonder if he came from money, he left a lot on the table. I would imagine though those Whitesnake royalties were a pretty penny as well.

Carmine didn’t you have a cartoon back in the 60s called commander McBragg !
This guy was great in the Village People in the leather suit. Rumor is they still pay him royalties for use of the mustache.
💕💥🙌 still have B M album 💯
John is done, let’s face it. He’s probably still getting royalties from the 87 album that’s sustaining him enough to just keep sitting on his ass. Leave him be. Dude was a legend but unfortunately lost all passion for the craft
Sykes was a beast
For a guy who is a legend, Carmine has managed to be involved in many forgettable projects. Somehow with him, that only enhances his legend
Uh, he was also the drummer and the co writer for two of Rod Stewart’s biggest hits
@@andytimp And he also played drums on the 1978 Paul Stanley solo album
@@sebastienlavoie9334lol that album sucked
@@Bls-of1ld I love it, his and Ace's album are the best of the four solo albums, have a nice day moron!!
Let John Sykes be, it seems that he isn't interested of a further career.
Why didn't you go get Doc Mcghee?
John should have replaced Steve Clark in Def Leppard after he died in 1991. He would have been great for them.
Blue Murder rocked… but they should’ve been called “SYKES WARD” 🤪
He's kind of like the Forest Gump of thezrock community.
Yepp! Blue murder should have been huge! Talk about miss using a great band! Manager wise just awful!
Grunge killed them.
Carmine was made for that life.

Cozy was miles better than you.
Blue Murder,s record label was the same as Whitesnake,s . Do you know what i think? That David Coverdale sabotaged all of Blue murder,s chances of having huge success with the sales of their first album
They released Valley of the Kings as their first single thats why Blue Murder didnt take off Jelly roll would have been a great single
Facts are facts. John and Tony still work together, and they do not want Carmine apart of it. It is Coverdale and Appice that Sykes hates the music world so much. He loves to play, he loves the fans, he hates the buisness side and this asshole is a major reason why.
Tony and Carmine still play together, too.
Whitesnake was John Sykes. 19987 over ten million next album without John 1 million say no more I stopped listening to them after John got sacked.
He was in Blue Murder for a few months .
Check out John Sykes-Too Late
It's a very early demo of Blue Murder with Ray on vocals
The Badlands and Blue Murder debuts were both amazing! 1a & 1b and I can't choose between them. Amazing!!🔥🧨
Carmine can you tone it down a bit lol 🤘😎💥❤
"I'm a studied drummer" 😂😂😂 Cozy was a complete powerhouse of them drums !! Stop lickin ur own ass Carmine !!
And who is COZY POWELL today and who is you man?
Cozy passed away in 1998
@@jimmansi9046 Thank you, everyone knows that. I mean the importance of Powel and his place in music.
Oh let it go
He's counting his Whitesnake money, probably doesn't need to work.
