As an objective Porsche owner, I decided to test drive both E class and 5 series , 5 series interior isn’t as luxuries as Mercedes however the E class drives like a Camry. I would definitely choose 5 series.

Well “better” can be interpreted in different ways. Mercedes cars are very comfortable it’s a true luxury vehicle . BMWs are known as the ultimate driving machine and hence they are the most fun to drive that is just a fact , the 2 companies have different strength areas and they stay true to that for the most part. I would say if you want a luxuries comfortable experience go with Mercedes , if you want “fun” and the best driving mechanics available then BMW.

Thanks for the great comparison, I'm about to buy one of them (530e / E300e) year 20/21 hybrid models.
The only thing that holds me back from buying the Mercedes is the exterior design, I do prefer the previous design of the E-Class.
The BMW looks sleek and 'mean' which appeals to me. But the interior still looks fairly outdated compared to the Mercedes' interior.
So all in all, BMW wins on the exterior and the Mercedes wins on the interior.
The 530e can be had for way cheaper second hand with low mileage, in the EU
I've been choosing between same two cars. I've picked 530e. Mercedes has a trunk with a "shelf" inside, so it's difficult to slide things in. BMW has flat surface. Interior in comparison with mercedes indeed may look outdated, but iDrive 7.5 (model 2021+) is great. Display resolution is high. And well, BMW drives better. What did you pick?
@@DNL8787 I ended up with the 530e as well. The trunk in the Mercedes didn’t appeal to me, as I need to carry a baby stroller and lots of other stuff regularly, so the extra space is appreciated.
The car is great and I actually do prefer the interior of the BMW more now. The feeling of the steering wheel and the seats are a step above of my former 2016 Mercedes C350e and the E300e I considered.
So far I’m quite satisfied with my decision.
Totally agree about the styling. I've got a 2018 E class and the styling is much better to my eyes. The rear is much classier. The smaller light clusters with the double upturn is so classy and looks great at night. The new lights that spread across the back are like many other cars on the road and the downturned look of the front grill is just ugly. I wouldn't buy another, the 5 series looks better now I think

mercedes interior is far far more modern than Bmw..The steering wheel, the dashboard, so futuristic. Outside the bmw looks more sexy, young...
What about the driving ? The most important part. BMW is miles ahead (no pun) the E class drives like a slightly nicer Camry.
@@thomass1891 I test drove the Mercedes E class Break and was very much impressed. I think it’s a very relaxing, luxurious and practical car. Noice level in the car is very low and suspension settings are as good as it gets. Very plush but no hint of wobbling. It’s not a sports car, but that’s not the intention of this car. However, handling is really really good and far better than anticipated.

I love Mercedes Benz but now I think the bmw has best design than Mercedes 😎
The only thing I feel the e class beats the 5 is the look of the steering. That's it. I've driven 1400kms in the 2018 e class and after u get used to the design u realise the quality isn't where It should be.
totally agreed after renting the E-class for a while i realized that as well...after some research i found out the E-class is build in the same factory as the lower segment C-class, while the 5 series is build in the same factory as the upper end 7 series. One can clearly tell the 5 series was build on a higher standard, its much closer to a 7 series, than the e-class is to the far better build S-class.
Yeah the quality is definitely lacking feels like a larger c class lots of cheap plastics inside

5 Series is such a better looking car on the outside. It’s not even close.
My 530M (or something like that) is so fun to drive, I love it. Great handling especially on corners. I took it to the F1 track in Austin where you can pay to take a lap. That sucker performs!
I don't want a cheap looking tablet as a dash so I'll get the 5 Series.

i am surprised you didn't cover the driver comfort. We found the E class way more comfortable in terms of width interior. The BMW5 frankly is just about similar in size to the BMW3 series in terms of driver comfort.

Mercedes use plastic seats in their cars (at the bottom end). It’s billed as Artico Leather, but in my mind leather comes from animals not oil. It’s a lot less environmentally friendly than cows and pigs which are truly sustainable. The methane hype is funded by those who want to profit from selling truly damaging technologies like electric cars (widespread desertification and destruction of arable land and agricultural economies). Plastic comes from oil, it doesn’t degrade and it requires massive amount of energy to recycle. These are the myths of our time. If we truly want to be climate aware, it’s the whole planet’s climate and environment, not just those in the West that matter. As for the comparison, the Merc’s interior is nicer, but beginning to look dated. The BMW’s seats look a lot nicer, but they have the cheap option of installing controls on the seat squab. Coming back to the environmental impact, hydrogen fuel cells are the true way forward since their emissions are water and oxygen. The problem is, there’ s limited profit in them.

Nice review Mari! I like the G80 better than either of these....except for the diesel models. The Germans really shine with super smooth and efficient diesels. I think I'd take the 5 Series over this E Class because it's more efficient and quite a bit cheaper!

In Korea those are sold with pirelli runflat tires but that car is switched into snow tires
The region where they shot the video is the coldest place in Korea so that must have been why they put on winter tires.

We can talk spec, drive, comfort et all day but a bmw is still just a bmw. Nothing compares to the reputation/flex of the Mercedes star 🤷🏻♂️ I like both but the Mercedes will always have that impressive presence over a bmw or Audi. more to do with brand than anything

The E-Class exterior before the facelift was better. Better get your 5 Series before they give it the buck tooth grill. I have a pre-facelift W213 E-Class with all the best options :) I like the 5 but honestly the interior of my E-Class makes anything but an S-Class feel like a step down.

I don't think it's fair to say that these are the "representative German premium midsize sedans" without including the Audi A6. It's merely a comparison of the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E Class.

Bmw interior looks dated, exterior is sportier but interior much much older than the Merc modern & tech design. So i guess if u want to please others(exterior styling) bmw. Treat yourself (interior design) the merc
Philip....I agree that the Benz interior looks more modern than the Bimmer. However, the Benz also has more cheap plastic inside than the BMW. The Bimmer is simple, but put together better. And here in Korea at least, the 5 Series is notably cheaper than that new E Class.

No need to pay extra for badges and have $$$ left for other goodies in life. And perhaps no time wasted on solving engine codes and breakdowns but to fully enjoy a serene and luxurious lifestyle/ motoring with adequate performance for everyday use ✌😊

So I did ordered my 540i last in December and picked it up in March. Before I did anything I was in the process of ordering the E450. I drive both and BMW won in more areas than a Mercedes did on the eclass. Not saying Mercedes is trash. I’ve owned a 05 CLK coupe and it road great. But I love my Bimmer. Now somethings may annoy you as you begin trying to order and purchase so you have to decide what your deal breakers are before making your final decision
