In this clip, Damion Hall talked with Shawn Prez about life post-'Guy' and what his relationship was like with his brother Aaron and group member Teddy Riley, respectively. Damion laid out what he thought were some of the reasons behind the disbanding and what he thought could've been handled differently on Teddy Riley's part. He even explained that Blackstreet, the group Teddy Riley founded after Guy, would never become the R&B standard bearers that Guy represented.

Anyone who was born in the 50s-70s can truly appreciate Michael Jackson. We saw it all Jackson 5, Jackson's, Off The Wall, Thriller and Bad.
90s babies we appreciate him too because we seen how you Rock my world was a hit but not on the level as his 80s prime but that was the last he did something but I get what you saying but 90s babies love him too

Extremly underrated CD
Guy should've done another album around 92-93, but when you've got a genius music producer like Teddy Riley being asked to produce all these other artists, the original group is always gonna fall to the wayside. And it probably wasn't very profitable for Teddy to do another Guy album, when he's creating new acts that he has total control over, as opposed to being just a member of Guy.
Man! DH took us all the way behind the curtains! Never knew that about Chauncey. Now Chauncey ain't cool with Teddy to. I hate to see all the animosity happen to all of our great black groups
I saw Guy open up for MC Hammer in 89. Respect.
Damion was so underrated. That song that he did with Chante Moore was a groove.

Man. All I know was in the late 80s and early 90s, especially during 89-91 while I was in college, New Jack Swing was the hitting!! Going to the clubs and hearing that New Jack Swing beat...the dance floor was packed!
The New Jack Swing was the first sound that you added Hip-Hop and R&B together in music cause Teddy creator that element for the culture that sounds still relevant right now in 20/21...
Keep The Faith off that Dangerous album 🔥
🎶 I don't think Teddy produced that one…
Damon spoke facts and gave the fans the behind the scenes drama without shitting on people.
“Now you gotta live off perception.” That’s deep.
Man teddy produced “The Show by Dougie fresh years before Guy was even thought of. Teddy was gonna be great regardless.

Actually Guy broke up in fall of 91' smdh during the Future album run smdh not 1990 they went on tour in 1991

GUY LEFT A LOT of money on the table as Damion said. Too much egos amongst the guys especially Teddy. If it wasn't for Aaron's unique voice on the first album the speed of success that Teddy enjoyed wouldn't have been there(Not that Teddy wouldn't have made it, but look at producers at the time like Trakmasterz(Poke and Tone) and years it took before they were known). By the time Guy got together for their 3rd album they had already lost their fanbase to R KELLY, JODECI, SILK, BASIC BLACK, BOYZ TO MEN, BBD etc.
MY OPINION, GUY should have surpassed New Edition with their sound and culture of that time but egos and money got in the way. We were told GENE GRIFFIN was the issue the first time round, but what about later....
Facts💯💯💯
They were the group created the new jack swing
Guy's run also was over when new jack swing was over which was around 94-95. Teddy didn't deliver strong production for Guy like he did Blackstreet. That third album maybe could have had a chance but Teddy was putting more energy into Blackstreet at the time.
@Ted's Back facts
uhhh i’m pretty sure aaron hall only did a few songs, n don’t forget who wrote those too😂, Tedd did all the hard work, and Aaron hall had the better ego aswell saying in an old interview that he didn’t need teddy for “hits”, that’s why teddy “left” and joined blackstreet, whom he formed for a friend
“At the end of the day.....they not Guy”
BARS
That part!
The new jack swing era is my favorite era of black music all time 🎶
‘How were you eatin’ during this period?’ 🤣🤣🤣
Good question! I respect it😂😂😂 He Salty Af
Major Shade!
we need to hear the version of Teddy and Aaron.... next phase, thanks Crazie Legs for your contribution!
If Guy had put an album out in 92 they would have been huge. I didn't know that Chauncey was in Forté.
Yeah we missed out on potentially great Guy! albums between '92-'98. Wished they would've stayed together for that period but Teddy's production and creativity was too high in demand from other projects and upcoming artists.
Respect to Damian but it sounds to me like him and Aaron were a little salty that after the group broke up Teddy kept eating while they struggled.
Small minded thought.
can’t blame teddy on that, Aaron wanted a solo career (also threw shade at ted in an interview saying he didn’t need him in an older interview) and Teddy helped form Blackstreet and then after hearing about Aaron hall going solo, Teddy then finally joined blackstreet after forming them as a favor for a friend of his, and the hits kept rolling in, doesn’t matter which group he was witt
Aaron Hall’s 1st solo album is a classic !
We need a Charlie Wilson Anthony Hamilton and Aaron hall collaboration album remember I said it from Compton Mann
Never forget what you came through to get ahead in life before you got big period !
Good video
Black Street was dope too!
Word was Arron Hall didn't like No Diggity so Teddy gave it to Blackstreet

Yes .I definitely agree with that that's well taken because. I always believe that's what people mess up that when they have groups that's phenomenal like your head when they try to do other things besides the group not knowing that they can but don't forget the group meaning that you can still do the group and the other things besides the group but people always forget that and that's for always messes up groups because they don't understand it until it's late.

Yea man the joint with chante was a banger! It

Aaron and Damion Hall could've continued Guy with a third member/new producer. I wonder if they ever thought to do that. Their were so many hungry, talented new producers at that time.
They most definitely can do it with Timmy

Love this Brotha being real about the whole thing. My question is why in the HELL do people get involved in the recording industry? EVERYONE GETS RIPPED OFF ALL THE TIME!! Same story for the industry.
Because they don’t read their contracts. They have to do like Whitney Houston did. Negotiate your contract. Don’t be desperate with the first deal.
Damion Hall aged well. I’m glad he’s shedding light on what happened. I never knew why they broke up.

Dangerous is top 2 MJ album!
Bobby Brown was the spring board for Teddy Riley working with Michael Jackson,Guy was important to Texdy no doubt
No he was not. Teddy was originally approached to do the BAD album, but Gene Griffin sabotaged it.
@@CleanMusicLover229 you is so wrong,Bad was demos out back in 85,captain Eo, the only cut Teddy had of note back in 85 was the show with Doug e fresh and slick rick, plus Michael Jackson still had a contract production association deal with Quincy Jones and I didn't stutter Bobby Brown was the catalyst that got MJ musically into Teddy and the meeting came courtesy of Heavy D. TEDDY was getting his feet wet soaking up game from other heavyweight producers, Gene Grffin was a pre Suge Knight and he was not gonna take from. His plate,he is the reason why Teddy pulled away from Guy and worked with a whose who,

That dangerous album was dope tho!
Yes that's exactly true and we should have had done but when people in the industry especially at that time don't be thinking like that they do things without thinking.
It show you how ruthless you need to be to be successful talented or not
Guy broke up in 90? I thought at least 91, they were together as a group in New Jack City which came out in 91.
New jack city was filmed in 1990 but released in 1991.
I was a huge Guy fan but he's tripping. Teddy Riley didn't need Guy to be a hugely successful producer.
He didn’t say he needed them
I swear u people don’t listen.
@@shawnstrickland7313 What did he say then? That's the impression I got.
@@tlig he said a lot. But he never said Teddy needed Guy. What he did said was Guy was the foundation that really took him to the next level. The same thing could be said with MJ, the Jackson 5 is what started it all for him. That’s the foundation. Same thing with K-Ci and JoJo of Jodeci, or Beyoncé of Destiny’s Child.

Who is Timmy?
teddy is bro, he’s not about all the drama, it was mostly aaron who talked shot on teddy and then damion obviously was gonna take his brothers side n made teddy look like the bad guy in interviews
and also, Aaron hall said he was gonna do a solo album, so that’s when Teddy decided to join Blackstreet whom he created for a friend, he didn’t initially want to join cuz he wanted to stay with Guy, but hearing that Aaron hall was gonna do a solo album, is why he did his own thing.
