What you need it for? Like what source of heat

So can I run 5 separate strips of heat tape for separate tubs into just a herpstat 1? Can I run 5 into 1 if they are all kept at the same temp? In the process of building a rack and I understand how to set everything up except what type of thermostat I need.

Yes. If they're in a rack you just run them all together to one plug and use the herpstat 1. Watch my snake rack diy video for more info. If they're basically at the same temp it should work fine. Just keep in mind it will keep the strip the sensor is on the closest to the set temp and the others will be slightly off. (which won't usually be a problem)

Quick question, so with this model would I be able to change the temp and humidity ? And how many things can I hook up to it?

The herpstat 1 basic does not do humidity, but other models including the herpstat 1 do. With this model you have one outlet and one temperature probe. I would look at other models if you want to hook up multiple enclosures.

have you set your daytime temp set for what you want the basking temp...or ambient temp? Also, where do you have your prob? I have mine hanging above the heat mat...where do you recommend the ideal spot should be?

I have plastic enclosures too...I was wondering what yours were...I have two balls...one seemed to do fine...my albino seemed dehydrated with my temp @ 88.

The probe should always be taped to the heat mat otherwise it will not be at all accurate... I have mine set to what I need to maintain my desired hot spot. For instance, I currently have it set at 93 but the actual temp on the inside of the tub at the hot spot is about 90 at the hottest spot. If you maintain a hot spot between 88-92 you're good. Always check what temperatures you're getting on the inside of the tub (i.e. what temp. is the snake actually being exposed to). Ambient temps should take care of themselves if you have the correct temperature hot spot (again though actually check the ambient temps as well to make sure they're correct).

If you have fresh water at all times and have the correct humidity you should not have problems with dehydration. What makes you think it's dehydrated?

This is my first shed lol He started looking like everyone else's dehydration photos of their snakes...after he shed, he looked fine. He literally she his skin today. He looked normal all the way up until a few hours ago...it started with a strip of skin going down his back that looked stiff but was still shiny...I let him soak...oiled him...then put him in his enclosure. I checked on him 3 hours later...and his entire body was had the same look to it...stiff but it was still slighly shiny. I soaked him again...and repeated the process...then I started researching...trying to figure out what it was I might have been doing wrong...maybe my temps were off...the oil...I came on here...wrote you...and then I picked him up, and he slithered down out of my hand and left his skin behind lol. He looks normal now lol He didn't look anything like everyone else's snake that was shedding though. His eyes didn't turn cloudy...and the skin didn't get dry...but I soak him everyday and put oil on his skin. Maybe that's why it came off so easily and didn't dry out...I was wondering if it was something I did wrong. The humidity is good...just concerned if I still may have the temp too high...I put mine on 88 during the day and 75 @ night. I have two ball pythons...a normal and an albino. The normal is much younger...and I can tell she is about to shed.

Your temps sound fine.. no need to drop the night temp. though unless you're trying to breed them. Personally I'd avoid soaking and oiling any snakes for shedding. It can actually cause more harm than good. If you have the humidity around 60-70% the snakes will shed just fine on their own. In the rare case that they DO get a stuck shed though, check out my video on how to fix a stuck shed without soaking. Also, in case you're not familiar with the shedding process, the snakes eyes are only cloudy for about 2 days and then they go clear and look totally normal again for about another 2 days. Then they will shed. So at the time of shedding they won't have cloudy eyes. (The cloudiness is actually a liquid they secrete between their old and new skin and this is what helps them shed. If you soak them in water it gets rid of this natural oil and can sometimes make it harder for them to shed. That's why I recommend just letting them shed on their own.)
