Thank you Mr Geoff for these gorgeous shots with the drone to show the size of Drubb, quite a large area and steep. Beautiful water so glassy and the inlets carving out the spaces for your camp.

Hi Steven and thanks for more of your kind comments 😊 It's great you're enjoying my video's and in so much detail too...fantastic! Yes, Skye is a very spiritual place and none mores than Loch Coruisk, nestled right in the heart of the Cullin Mountains you can see and almost feel the way nature has worn down the rocks to produce the beauty in front of you but the other thing is the solitude while you're there, I've never experienced that depth of solitude.
The drone shows the stunning vastness of the mountains but I wasn't happy with my flying, the footage was very jerky, I think a recent update to software had defaulted my control settings, still my fault as I need to practice more.
Thank again...keep watching and enjoying 😉 👍💪stay safe.

Hi Alec, thanks for your comments. Yes, that area of Skye is a fabulous place in the right conditions, long stretches without landing spots especially with Westerly wind & swells. If you are enjoying my Kayaking adventures please consider subscribing for more, as I upload them, also please feel free to share with friends. Thanks 👍

Great videos Geoff, I’m looking forward to seeing some of your Shetland footage, especially Fogla skerry.

Thanks Erik, I had a fantastic time in Shetland, amazing kayaking in great company and new friends. I'm looking forward to editing the footage fairly soon but have some catching up on jobs around the house first.👍

Geoff, Thank you for another terrific series from your beautiful coast. While I am always amazed at the beauty of the coast and the islands, I am equally impressed with your talent and production of the videos. Might I suggest that you do an info/instruct video on how tos for beginners and a run down on some of your gear and accessories.
Again, thanks for the many hours of wonderful education and entertainment.
All the best, Doug in Nova Scotia (another nice coast)

Thanks for your kind comments Doug, it makes the hours of editing all worthwhile. Yes, I've been asked a few times to do some gear/instructional video's and when I've done a lot of soul searching I would find it difficult as sea kayaking and gear is very very much a personal thing geared predominately around different locations and conditions around the world.
I will try and address this one day purely from my stated personal standpoint 😂😂 but in the meantime I'm happy to share info on my own personal choices and give advice where I can. 👍👍

Enjoyed the entire series, top shelf. That drone footage was jaw dropping and how perfect was paddling in still conditions on Loch Scavaig! Cheers and thanks.

Thanks Bevo, I've got to look at another trip to do now! You've inspired me too much 😂😂 I'm off to Shetland for 2 weeks next month and never been before so I'm super excited, hopefully good conditions but with Shetland you've just got to run with what it gives, can't pick and choose weather. I'm working on getting mic volumes right for the narration as this last one is boosted that much to here it's all distorted....work in progress and another learning curve. Hope your keeping well and staying safe. Cheers 🍻

Thanks for your compliments. Yes, that entire Western coastline of Skye is just stunning, however settled weather and careful planning is required for Sea Kayaking there as launching and landing spots are remote being miles apart and exposed to prevailing weather and swell. I postponed our trip by 4 days as 10ft surf was reported for Talisker Bay, not what you need for fully landen sea kayaks in the middle of a 6 day trip.

So this is what we missed last May when we went and it rained and blew Force 5+ all week! Did manage to paddle but only in protected areas where we could escape the conditions.

Hi thanks for your comments, I hope you enjoyed the 3 video's and hopefully they filled in a few blanks for you for next time with better conditions I hope👍
Unfortunately (or you could say fortunately) 🤔 the weather is a deciding factor in our sport giving us very varied conditions to enjoy, without the extreme rough weather though, we wouldn't have such an interesting coastline, from it being battered by the elements 🙄
The West coast of Skye is fabulous in the right conditions, we were fortunate (being retired) to be able to wait for a suitable weather window and only the week before I cancelled the trip with reports of 10 foot surf breaking into Talisker Bay, not what we wanted to be landing in with fully laden sea kayaks and the West side would have been ridiculous anyway with that amount of swell.
Please consider sharing the ones you like with friends, and subscribe if not already as I'm adding new new kayaking adventures regularly with loads more to edit. Enjoy! & Thanks Again 😊 👍👍

hi Geoff, nice one this. Highly calming, beautyful, the right thing on a much to hot afternoon.
Would you like a proper mic for your narration? Yours sound like on it's last leg. In case, I have one lie around... br.

Hi Sam, 😀👍 thanks for the comments. You're right, I've just started putting narration to my videos and am finding poor level of sound from most mics that I've used, sadly I've spoilt this video with the distortion as I've increased volume levels. It didn't sound as bad before loading to UA-cam. I'm working on it, but looking at different mics is a minefield. Any suggestions 🤔 would be appreciated. Cheers, pleased you're enjoying them 😀 👍

@@geoffburke Hey Geoff - It's not bad, it's the style (it belongs with the video, but can be optimized) - you can not spoil those vids.If you have used a variety of mics and all sound distorted - they can't all be wrong - maybe it could be the recording settings? How are you recording? with what tool, what settings etc.? The sound recordings from the cam(s) are ok (and normaly, those mics can be considered inferior... could...). Sidenode: your friend (in the black white kayak, a north shore?) is using a mouth-mount for his gp - has he considered a torso harness? I'm using one and it can be more comfortable, than "biting on the gear" ;).
Realy enjoy the vids, realy do! Br

@@sim-sam Hi Sam, thanks for the info. I'd racked my 2 brain cells during the night, and this morning started experimenting with Davinci Resolve's Sound System which I've never even looked at before. I've found mics I've used in the past (as mentioned before) have had very low volume, so started looking at using more gain etc in the music edit side rather than just increasing volume in the video edit portion this has allowed me to drop volumes levels and avoid distortion yet keep narration loud enough plus I've got control of the audio tracks from the GoPro and background music, all within the sound editor of Davinci.....doh!!! ignorance on my part, being so wrapped up in other aspects of editing! This last 6 months has been a huge learning curve with a new Macbook Pro and the new Pro quality editing software...frustrating at times but very satisfying in others when I look back at my Windows laptop and Power Director editor stuff.
Looks like I'll be cancelling/sending back my new mic when it arrives. 😂😂🤞👍
I use a floaty mouth mount with my Hero 10, I tried the chest mount but with my paddling style I rotate at the waist that much the footage is unwatchable plus the 10 has horizon leveling which helps a great deal, much better than the DJI Action which I liked a lot. Colour is better on the 10 than the 9 which I found was way oversaturated.
Cheers!! I Need to get another trip in to edit 😀

@@geoffburke Looking very much forward to the next trip and edit :D - I'm using GP7 and 10, with a sort of bow-mount and a harness - not primarely to publish but to learn (movement and using Davinci - using it for bit now and it works great, once one's has a workflow of some sort - the newer and much faster M1 helps a great deal).
Still, there is much to learn until my movements (row row row your boat... splash) and on the gear, but we will sort it out... some day.

Loch Coruisk is so small what was the point of portaging to it?

    • @geoffburke
      @geoffburke  2 роки тому +4

Hi Studebaker, the point was quite simply to explore the area and spend the night soaking up the magnificent atmosphere of such a stunning location! It's not about distance paddled, it's about enjoying stunning landscapes and the beauty of such remote locations. All a matter of taste I suppose 😋
