My window unit, some 30 yrs old was barely blowing air. Took it out an cleaned it. Spent another 4 hrs straightening out the fins. 2/3 of it were mashed up. I let it dry out for 6 hrs or so an put it back together. Now it runs quite an blows cool air. 83% out side , installed in a room 11 X 11 kept the room at 70%. It is a small unit perhaps 5000 btu. I tried to straighten the fins out with a tooth pick. But they wore out to fast. So I used a very small screwdriver. And slowly straightened each one out as best I could.
