- Straightening the coils on the vintage Westinghouse 5,000 BTU air conditioner.. It's a tedious process that takes some time, but it is necessary to ensure full thermal transfer is occurring as the air passes through the machine..

Jordan, you're the first person I"ve seen using the fin straightening comb with finesse. I've seen a lot of guys aggresively pulling the comb through, like a rake over rocks and dirt. Thanks man, good job!
There are too many people operating by the 'quantity over quality' mentality. It doesn't matter if you fix 15 units in a day if half of them quit again next week. Take the time to do it right. Ripped coils aren't going to satisfy anyone.
AGREE! NICELY DONE!
agreed, the competence is immense
Spot on!
I have the exact same unit. The coils are just as dented as yours. Right now, it's in the window. This will indeed be tedious work. I looked at various fin tools and will buy the set you have. And will take the unit out the window, place it on a lighted workbench, get a sixpack in an ice filled cooler, put on some mellow music. (No wife or kids around to interrupt). It will take patience to complete but you've shown its worth it.
mate you're a maestro. you breathed new life in that coil. most lazy technicians would have thrown that coil but you saved it from ending up in landfill. bravo
Thanks, I am so tired of the poor attitude and sleazy work of many 'techs' today. I always try to repair if at all possible, even if it takes a little longer.
Finally someone that isn't just raking the comb through the fins most of the time not really showing how to fix the coil itself and just scraping the hell out of it.
I really appreciate the time you put into this, extremely calm and easy to understand, but most important for me, to SEE the end result of your work. Thank You!!!!
Jordan, you did a wonderful job straightening the condenser coil. It almost looks new again!
Thanks!
Jordan thank you so much for showing me how to correctly use one of those combs. I will now know how to use it on my home A/C condenser as well as my car!!
Hey Jordan, excellent work, finesse, not force. Thanks for filming, editing, and posting this video.👊
Great precision man . You did excellent work fixing all those coils . Im trying to fix a minor spot on my new unit . I think i will try this product
Thanks.. If you have the ambition, the set of combs seen in the video is a great product.. I've used it with great success on many different units..
Incredible. I have the exact same tool and now I see how to use it. Thank you.
Great job I feel confident now after watching you thanks so much.
You're welcome.
Awesome and skilled work mate. 😎
Thanks
SWEET! Not sure why it's so satisfying to watch the timelapse yet, it is. 😁 I've been using an old credit card but the results appear much better with that fin comb. SOLD!
This is an indispensable tool to have if you ever do this kind of work.
You did a terrific job !!!!!!!!!!!!
It take patience to do it, great job!! 👍
Indeed, thanks!
Nice job! Almost every window unit I’ve seen that people I know have, the coils are pretty banged up on the window unit, so I’ll recommend them one of these.
Thanks, this is really an indispensable tool.
Jordan U I agree
Wow, that looks really good!
Thanks.
I always wondered how to fix these. Nice Job!
Thanks!
Now all I need to do is order that tool online! Thank you sir!
You're welcome
I fixed a unit last year that was so bad it took me four hours to repair the aluminum coil. You're so right of being patient with this type of work. The unit was one season young. The owner gave me a two hundred dollars bonus. Since the owner told me that a large company stated to him that the unit was just too far gone. I just love to show up liars and thieves. Such a shame that the HVAC field lately is just full of scammers and shysters. Nice explanation VF.
The HVAC industry has turned into primarily a scam full of dishonest salesmen and junk equipment. Its hard to come across a real tech anymore. I always do every job to the proper degree, and throw in extras when I can. Sometimes it takes longer, sometimes it cuts into profit, but ultimately it satisfies the customer, and those are the people that keep coming back. Many people can recognize quality work and a good attitude, even if they have no idea what you’re doing to the equipment.
@@JordanU Amen to your statements. So nice to hear others are true humans with their humanity still in tack. Good day and stay virus free too. VF
Patience is the key here I think 😊 Thanks
Certainly one of them.
Great techniques 👍
Excellent job!
Thanks
What a great results. But time consuming 😂. Thanks for your sharing
wow that tool is amazing!
This is an excellent tool, simple and does exactly what it's supposed to. It comes to every job.
Nice job. Most perfect i have seen.
Thanks
You did a really nice job compared to other videos I have seen and most would say the more dented ones couldn't be fixed but they just needed a little wiggle lol.
Unfortunately there's not too many people left that work the way I do.
Awesome work bro
Thanks
Nice!! Thanks for the demo!
You're welcome.

I use a butter knife to straighten out the dings that you showed instead of a flat screwdriver. The screwdriver can turn a little bit by accident causing it to widen the fins more than necessary. Was in a bind and needed something to use and discovered that the butter knife works pretty decent. With a butter knife I was able to fine-tune how wide I was spreading the fins by just tilting the knife slightly. It's easier to work with than using the rounded handle of a screwdriver.
I was using it for a "through the wall' air conditioner. But you probably can also use it on a window AC as well. Not sure about Central AC... haven't tried that yet.
I have used a knife before, but I tend to prefer a thin spackle knife over both.
@@JordanU interesting. Thanks.
I bought a tool bag from a classmate of time it came with a fin tool kit was wondering what I would do with this! Thank you 😊
Thanks for this video!
You're welcome.
someone needs to make a video game of this. its satisfying to watch lol
Thats awsome Im gonna look for a set on Amazon n buy it...thnks..great video
You're welcome.
Just learned something new I’m also thinking about my baseboard heater fins
This should be done to those as wel, though I suspect they're a lot less likely to get damaged.
Now thats one satisfying tutorial..
Thanks for letting me know.
i like it. very cool. thx u
Thanks for letting me know.
You are very nice, you help us
Thanks
Good job, when a little patience is applied!
Often times a little patience goes a long way.
@@JordanU yep!
i have got to get me one of them combs. i spend hours using a screw driver trying to get them perfect.
This is an indispensable tool if you do any HVAC work.
I need those coil combs for my Fedders.
OK
very nice
Thanks
i found if you use two screw drivers together on really bad bends it helps straighten it faster .
Thanks for letting me know.
i just ordered a adjustable used metal one off ebay i love ebay we one can find stuff at fair price and usa made [i hope] thanks fer video sir God bless
Thanks for letting me know, I hope it works out well for you.
Superb
Thanks
A small putty knife is beneficial as well as a tooth brush or small cleaning brush.
Can I ask the damage or uneven coil will cause what problem??
It won't transfer the thermal energy to the air properly. This will reduce the performance of the machine and reduce the lifespan of the compressor.
@@JordanU thank so much because I remember my mom hire a service for the air conditioning but the service was very bad and he even damaged my core so badly but he say is fine 😭
@@mrcoco3562 A lot of HVAC services out there today are scams, run by people that have no other intentions than to try to sell you a new system you don't need.
Man, I've been doing it wrong the whole time! I have the same tool.
Now you know how to do it right!
That is a great ring of combs, it goes to every job.
Good sample not like the other just combing away.
Thanks
What about hair clipper adapters?
I suppose if they were dense enough, I tend to think they wouldn’t be though.
so with the green tool, which tooth per inch number did you pick?
I don't recall.
My brand new GE 5000 BTU unit has a foamy white liquid coming out of the coils... is this normal?
No.
You have a leak in the copper pipe behind the coil. That means the refrigerant has leaked out and your cooling is no longer happening.
How much damage can be on these coils to still be okay to use?
On a window unit, not much. These smaller units have very little cooling, any loss through bent fins will reduce performance and longevity.
How long did it take to straighten the coils?
I don’t remember, could be hours if they’re really bad.
Where did you get those coil straighteners?
The Amazon..
@@JordanU Thank you
Where did you buy those combs
A hardware store.
but where to get that tool pls?
A hardware store.
Looks like SUPCO FCR6 comb set
That's exactly what it is.
does this affect the cooling performance of the aircon?
Very much so, bent or dirty coils will significantly reduce performance.
@@JordanU is there a technology in air-conditioning today that prevents the coil from bending or rusting?
@@kevinyap2417 No.
this is a satisfyinh video
OK
Who sells those Combs?
Most hardware stores.
I somehow cut myself on the coils I don't know how but I did
OK
Finger slid across one on accident and my thumb looked like red ramen noodles. Bad time
Link to the tool?
The tool is Supco's model FCR6.
I like it
OK
Holy cow that thumb nail has me distracted. Lol
That doesn't make sense.
@@JordanU then go color in a coloring book, I dunno. Lmao look at the thumb.
@@danielely7437 That makes even less sense. Don't waste my time with nonsense commentary.
Excellent job on that, but it's the wrong kind of "strait".
O well, sometimes I make mistakes..
Wow, finally it worked out. You acknowledged and fixed your mistake! Applause! Applause!
@@jaykay18 That's what happens whenever an actual error is made..
Rarely, by you, by there are exceptions.
*but* there are exceptions, I meant. God forbid you edit a comment around here.
those are some nasty fingernails
That’s a nasty, worthless comment.
@@JordanU indeed.
OMG cut your fingernails!
Sorry, I don't take requests from spammers.
@@JordanU Ha!! Got em!

The tool can be found on the Amazon or most hardware stores.
