BUILD A BETTER NANO PLANTED TANK - WITH A BUDGET CO2 SYSTEM
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 лип 2024
- You can do better! With just three ingredients you can turn a struggling nano aquascape into an algae-free and visually more appealing one. Just hook on a budget CO2 system, decrease the water temperature, and have an interesting layout - with no technology visible. We did all of the above in this video and were blown away by the change. Oh, and we changed the light too at the end. What a difference!

Nano Aquarium with Bigger hobby
#beautifulaquaria
Yeah, at least I have self criticism. LOL.
I can't even imagine how many times I failed in planted tanks.. Before I started following green aqua and listening to what Balasz says.. Thanks
You're welcome, glad we helped you find your way in the hobby. Cheers!
would be interesting if you would summarize your faults..
One of my biggest mistake was starting with a nano tank. I have huge hands and it was hard to reach everything easily. I wanted to try several plants but don't have enough space to do that. Smaller tank means smaller water capacity which is more sensitive of change, it is easier to foul up the water parameters. In a previous video it was mentioned that sg like a 60p size is a good beginner tank and that is true. After I bought a much bigger tank I started to really enjoy this hobby.
Yes, the CO2 can be really expensive, and yes, it is possible to do it without CO2, but tbh it is much easier with it. My first 2 tanks were CO2less, and they worked fine, only a little algae appeared and the fish and shrimps lived a healthy life. But now with CO2 I can see what those plants can achieve. The colors, the growth rate, the cleanness of the tank is absolutely amazing.
Edit: before misunderstanding: My nano was 30l, so half of the 60p, and my actual big aquarium is 120l.
Yepp, a nano is very difficult to handle. Even I have problems with it all the time, and my hands are not as big...
Love the endlers~~ anubias wall is very cool. But that skimmer-- epic. lol
Cheers Steve, yeah they gave some life to the scape.
After making that nano aquarium I’m more interested and I love this hobby
Glad we inspire!
I laughed a lot with the glue-rock mess 🤣🤣🤣 something similar happened to me with silicone 😅. I love you guys! your videos and your aquariums! you inspire and teach me a lot, thank you all for your great work 😘
GORGEOUS result 🤯 that skimmer blending definitely gave me some ideas!
What kind of ideas? :)
A such inspiring video!
And Vicky has a charming way to say "That's it". 😎
I am happy! Welcome to the beautiful world of aquascaping!
It definitely turned out better
Cheers! Thanks for the kind feedback!
Best aquarium related channel on UA-cam by far. My tanks have improved a ton because of this channel.
Love to hear that John, thank you 😍
My third planted tank is just 28cm long and 18cm wide and 22cm height. Got only Monte Carlo, rotala green, hra and macrandra with four fire red shrimp. Did everything that green qua says, such a small tank it's doing so good and plants are pearling so well. Thanks Green Aqua.
Great Balazs!! I’m on my third tank now and my wife is planning to kick me out of the house!! 🤣 I follow you guys and others aquascapers that visit Green Aqua one day. I start if a nano tank then a 60p and now a 120p high tech! Love the challenge and also had some fails and learn a lot with those previous tanks. My plan is to submit this one to the contest next year. 🤞🏻 Thanks Green Aqua team!!
Haha glad I'm not the only one that's gonna get kicked out by their wife for this hobby 😂
Oh, the guys with the multiple-tank-syndrome. LOL. That's the way! Good luck with your contest, try to discuss the life within the tank with the wife maybe she'll start appreciating the hobby too!
Looks like I'm going to be trying to do an all-nighter 🤗💚🌿🌱🐟🌱🌿💚
Cheers Mary. :) Thanks for staying up! Kentucky!
@@GreenAquaShop I made it and it was well worth it!! I wish you could see the beautiful landscape here!! You would absolutely love it!!
I know, I've seen videos and movies and everything. Breathtakingí!
One of the most beautiful made on the channel! Seeing it seems so easy to do! 😃
Yepp! This is really easy to do!
I've watched a lot of aquascaping videos but non of them talks about the importance of keeping plants in low water temperature. It's good that you emphasised on this cos i can attest to it. I live in the tropics and the water temperature in my country ranges from 28 - 31 degree celsius throughout the whole year. I used to have a planted tank many years back, i didn't use any fan or chiller and the plants either didn't do well or had mixed results despite everything i did. I didn't know that the missing and important puzzle was temperature because nobody in the hobby said anything about it until I remembered someone who runs an aquascaping business telling me that he runs chillers set at 26 degree celsius for all his tanks and they all look amazing when i went to the shop to have a look. The best part was he was running his tanks on T8 bulbs with CO2 and with base fert topped off with gravel! I then decided to run a fan on my tank instead of a chiller (due to the high cost of running one) and though i only managed to bring down the temperature to around 27 - 28 degrees, the plants looked much more healthy though they were not thriving like in your tanks. I'm sure this video will help a lot of hobbyists living in the tropics to be mindful of the bad effects of high temperature on aquatic plants.
Yepp, it's a big difference. Better greens, less algae...
you guys have the most professional youtube channel there is. top notch!!!
Thanks so much! Thanks for the support!
To educate and to inspire, you are doing a pretty good job!
Thanks so much Kevin 🙏
It looks so pretty😍
This little tank has a great story...the skimmer story, epic by the way 😂😉
Thank you for this video. 🙏😊😄
Wish you a wonderful weekend guys. 😍

you guys are indeed inspiring many including myself. Great content as always.first time I see someone aquascaoing a skimmer 🤣 LOVE IT!!
LOL, aquascaping a skimmer... Cheers my friend.
Green Aqua lol, you glued the rocks as hard scrape, added the moss as plants, that is a total aquascape! Very innovative my friend 😉
Thank you! :)
Welcome to the beautiful video of the week xD Greetings of Brazil!

I always love your Nano tank setup... It's a amazing setup and looking beautiful Nano planted tank.. Want to see more setup video.. Thank you for entertaining us... And alwys Love Green Aqua.. ❤❤❤❤❤
Noted, thanks for the support! Cheers!
I loved the Transformation and the front skimmer rock goes very well with the layout.. 😊😊👍👍😍
Kudos BALÁZS and Green Aqua team 👌👌
Cheers! Glad you like this too!
Looks fantastic !! Just shows if something’s not right we can change things without a full on re-rescape 👍🏻👍🏻
Yepp. You are right!
i honestly love almost all planted tanks, but i myself am more drawn to planted tanks with fewer plants in them, so ive never really needed the Co2.
that being said i'm definately gonna have to try my hands on a planted CO2 setup one day, also ive always used super glue for hardscaping, instant it hits water it becomes inert, and safe for fish tanks.
Love your persistence👍👍. Tank looks great👌
Thank you so much. :)
I want to see Balasz do a massive crypt parva carpet! I can’t imagine how many pots it would take!
World record for number of tissue cultures in a single tank. 9/10 video idea
If he do this probably 30 pots 😁 - Viktor
Thanks for watching 😀
Mission accomplished! inspired and learned new things. My aquascape has been having a hard time in recent weeks. my plants are melting, as it were.. anyway, massive big up for your channel!
Thanks! Glad you find our videos useful!
Camo skimmer adds a whole another layer of depth to the tank , love it
Thanks Jeff, yeah, I had to do something about that... :)
I'm so happy that I've discovered green aqua on UA-cam!! Every waterchange (weekly) I use the water for my houseplants and they grow like faster than hamilton 😎 now I got a house full of plants and aquariums 😂😂
That must be a great house then!
The vid has given me hope that my tank might someday be gorgeous as well. Thanks so much!!
Yeah, that was my mission with the video! Cheers!
This is great encouragement to do better, well explained.
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Huge improvements. Very nice!
Glad you like the video. 👍😁
Great video! Love to see a re-scape and how you guys do it! I'm actually gonna re-scape mine soon haha, i'm annoyed i missed the premiere haha, i had work, but the video was still top notch. im also thinking of getting a new light for my 60x30x34 maybe a Aquasky 601 G, but all that is verry expensive haha, wish i could get a RGB. it will be my second time doing a proper scape, and 4th time 'scaping'. ill be sure to share it on the discord server once i've completed it :). You guys really inspire! have a great week, and as always. From Australia, have a great week and see you next Thursday!
Get a Chihiros if you can, we are blown away by the quality.
@@GreenAquaShop Which do you suggest?
thanks!
The Wrgb, it's insane. ;)

Bought a c02 kit from c02 art thanks to you.. cannot wait to start my journey as a better aquascaper.
Happy scaping my friend 😊
This is so beautiful 😍 scape. .after so many changes it looks extremely beautiful... Anubius is all time favourite plant in this hobby. Technique of hide skimmer is amazing..Balazs sir is best..so amazing 😍 work....CO2 setup is so easy to operate...in every video something new comes for learning
Thanks again my friend. Cheers!
Aloha from Honolulu, Hawaii. I learned to not glue rocks to surface skimmers. This was an awesome video.
Aloha 😄 Thanks for watching ✌️
I'm getting more and more addict to aquascaping with balazs!
Cheers, my mission is accomplished then!
Just finished my first nano tank, I feel like I'm a pro now by only watching green aqua tutorials lol.
LOL, you are a pro now! Believe in yourself.
Great job guys!
Thanks! Cheers!
Haven’t been published and I already know I will like it
Thanks Rodrigo!
You guys and George Farmer are a great inspiration
Thanks for the support!
great light what the chihiros give off. In order to control bio co2 you can pull the diffuser a little higher in the evening so that less goes into the water, which is no longer possible with you.😀 I saw the difference with and without co2 on my bucephalandra. Without co2 there were only small leaves, with co2 nice long leaves and a new one was added every week.
Yepp. Thanks for backing my point, and thanks for the idea!
This "After maintenance" looks really good and truly inspiring ! A nano planted tank with a couple or trio of killifish (Aphyosemion, Diapteron, Pseudepiplatys annulatus) would be amazing :).
Thanks for the idea!
Looks great. Watching the original video of this tank inspired me to get a Betta fish.
Would love to see Green Aqua do another Betta tank with a jungle/biotope aquascape.
Noted! Not a fan of biotopes though. Cheers.
My super low tech co2 is a straw into which i blow every now and then until my face turns blue 😁 Seriously you guys are amazing! Thank you very much for all the knowledge you have been generously sharing to us newbies. More power and keep safe 👍🇵🇭
LOL, good tech is key. Thanks, glad you like what we do!
You are funny... I’m starting to like you. BTW, the nano tank turned out amazing!
Cheers Leana, glad I can finally win you over. LOL.
You've done it again! New from Green Aqua, camo filtration 🤣
LOL. Exactly.
So cool! I like it. My no co2 tank is still doing well. I added seachem flourish trace, it’s doing quite well. Fingers cross it will be a successful project. Only professionals will glue skimmers and rock together 😄
LOL, we went a bit crazy on this one, but it seems it was not in vain.
Awesome, looks so much better!
Cheers, glad you like the transformation.
Really nice rescape, tank looks great. Covering that skimmer looked so frustrating haha but the end result was worth it. That Chihiros nano light looks like a great option as well, I'm curious about your opinion of the RGB Vivid 2? I'm considering purchasing one.
It was frustrating, LOL. Yepp, the Vivid 2 is superb!
Anubias wall suits well with your scape . Impressed by this guys 👍
Thanks, we're happy with it too. It's good to look at when I enter Green Aqua.

I wanna see the maintenance video of that skimmer Balázs 😅🤣🤣
Now that you glued it, how you will get access to the impeller?
Show us later 😅
LOL, I will tell you - just you. I only glued the two bottom parts, so you can actually remove the top part accessing the sponge and the impeller maybe. Just maybe. Will see.
@@GreenAquaShop I want to see 😅.
From the video it seems the entire skimmer is glued to the rock... But. 🤣
You are crazy!!!!
I know, I've been thinking of maintenance when I did that. :)

Mr blazas really interest the beginners by low tech tanks and equipment very good
Yeah! True.
Just great, this difference. Now I would buy the tank too ...

Djalma - Brasil.
You are welcome, glad you appreciate our effort. Cheers!
Old Video but one of my tanks is a Betta Nano (30L) without algae. I had a lot of algae at the initial phase but Neocardinas and antler snails put an end to it within a few days. I'm using the filtosmart 60 (outside filter). Our Halfmoond Salamander Betta only eats living mosquito larvae. When it's not moving he's not eating. He gets along with the shrimps, doesn't even look at them. The temp is between 26 and 27°. But I can confirm, no carpet due to co2 missing. PS: Your build is looking sharp! Will try co2 with another nano.
It’s great! And easy!
Cheers, welcome to the channel!
Wow superb aquarium

I'm glad that you guys are using Chihiros lights! I think they're super underrated!
They leveled up with the new gen lights. Still experimenting tho.
Yeah, I've been using the WRGB II for my nano tank in the last 2 months. So far so good.
I love it! It's a beautiful work!!
Thanks so much 🙏
Your work and your videos are a great source of inspiration. The quality of your explanations is extraordinary and you add humor. Thanks, that's awesome!
😍
Thanks for the video! I am always wondering if I could start high lighting with co2 during fishless cycling? Would it prone to algae ?
Can't wait to watch it :)
Hope you'll enjoy it.
I don't miss a video of your work. It has already become a reference for Brazil. I could make a video about temperature and equipment for temperature control in the aquarium.
I believe I already touched that subject many times in our previous videos. Cheers!
Amazing 😉👍🙋♀️
Thank you Beata 💚
Quality content as always... Maintenance on the skimmer will be rough though 🤔😉
Well, I only glued the bottom part, so hopefully I'll be able to take that skimmer apart for maintenance. :D
You do not nothing balazs snow! Great video, cheers from Argentina 🇦🇷
Cheers, glad you like it!
Wow balazs u are a superhero in aquascaping😃😃😁😁
Cheers, thanks man!
Welcome balazs
I'm a big fan of passive CO2 system personally, especially for budget nano tanks . There's one from tropica called CO2 System 60 that I got for around £7 in the uk, but there are others. And then instead of buying the branded tropica CO2 refills you can just buy bulk co2 cartridges (and valve) for bikes which costs a fraction of the price. Cheap as chips and my plants grow amazing.
Thanks for that DIY idea. Cheers.
Love this video! You are the reason I bought my co2 system. Before you it was so scary for me.
Can you please dona step by step how to have a water changing setup like yours? That looks so convenient!
Glad we inspired you into that, hope you're happy with it. We detail our water change systems in my home kitchen nano tank maintenance video. Check that out.
@@GreenAquaShop yup, caught it right after watching this one, thank you for everything!
Looks so good! You always do a good job.
What could a person like myself do to avoid injecting too much CO2 into the tank overnight and killing my Betta fish?
Love the song in the beginning
Indeed you are doing a great job ❤
Thanks really!
@@GreenAquaShop cheers ❤❤
Hi Green Aqua, I am currently using a co2 tank and a neo diffuser like yours in a 5 gallon tank. However, my co2 levels are still very low as indicated by my test strip. Is it normal when using diffusers as such in a nano tank? If so, how can I rectify it? Thanks so much and really informative video!!
Very Nice Tank
Thank you!
Beautiful transformation. I love how you show the real life mishaps.
LOL, we don't hide anything. :)
Amazing as always. How important is temperature in a planted aquarium and what is the optimal temperature?
23 degrees - we talk about that a lot in our videos, check them out. Welcome to the channel. Cheers!
So I am excited to watch this
Thanks for watching!
Ive tried a low-tech co2 setup with baking soda and vinegar :) Worked amazingly but my plants grew too fast so I had to remove the co2 haha. I was trimming every week and it got to be too much work :P
LOL, the key is to use low energy plants, no stems.
extraordinario nano acuario muy buen video
Thanks a lot. :)
As always, a great video. Great rescape. You never fail to Inspire Balazs!
Totally agree on the CO2 one - If you want to make a great looking lush aquascape, CO2 is the simplest answer. However, I'm a little concerned on the non-stop CO2. Wouldn't it be better to have maybe a cheaper CO2 kit than a DIY? I remember using an Ista (not the spray can one but the actualy 1l/3L cylinder one) it's pretty cheap and comes with a 3in1 diffuser-counter-check valve (the non soleniod valve one is seriously cheap and the 3in1 diffuser is crazy big for nanotank) but works wonders.
I would want to know what happens to this one after 1-2 months with the continuous CO2.
Inexpensive pressurized CO2 kits often break, causing a lot of trouble. We tested this kit under our 20 liter nano for months, we liked it, no issues. But yeah, I would only use a pressurized system in the long run.
My first CO2 system was a yeast-gel based one as well. Very true, you can't stop it overnight, that could be a rather... explosive affair 😅😅😅
The downside of yeast is that you end up with fluctuating levels of CO2 based on irregular production. What I ended up doing was expanding the system to 3x 2.5 L plastic bottles, each on its own one-way valve, adding each week a fresh one for a 3-week cycle. All bottles connected pressurized the system to about 1.5-2 bar. Added an over-pressure valve for safety, pressure gauge and control valve, which allowed me to have an even CO2 bubble count to the tank. I switched to pressurized tanks out of shear laziness; after a while having to do the mix and exchange bottles gets tiresome...😁
LOL, it seems you've been there.
We used to have this system under our 20 liter tank for months. No problems, very stabile.
Not sure if this question was already asked. Where is the skimmer shield/guard from that was featured in this video. I have an ehiem 350 and have had multiple fish jump or get pulled into the skimmer. Beautiful Nano Setup!
