This is becoming an increasing problem. Without exaggeration, I block at least 4-6 email domains a day, as well as block 4-6 phone calls a day. It has become a daily part of our lives. Gov't intervention has to become more aggressive with these issues, as it decreases our quality of life and monetary loss for many. Good one Brian👍👍👍

Fewer banks in cities, towns, smaller places. The Reason? Don't see sufficient people every week to justify remaining. Circumstances have pushed people to do on line Banking even if don't wish to. Three only HSBC branches in Liverpool. About 4 yrs ago Allerton Branch had a refurbishment I saw that as a reprieve, otherwise why spend money? At the same time removed the counter and the staff.

At that point I pull out the credit card in question and call the number printed on the credit card. I NEVER call the number sent in a text or email. Other common scams are mails claiming to be from HMRC stating that you have a tax refund due and that you need to provide bank details in order for you to receive it. This has been going on for years. Also, mails allegedly from Royal Mail, asking for payment of £2.49 before an item they are allegedly holding can be delivered.
The advice regarding visiting your bank in person is good providing you have a branch near you that is still open! Also, I have found trying to deal with a Santander Business account in branch pretty frustrating as the account is ‘all online’.
Be vigilant … the scummy scammers are heartless criminals.

First, if a call is supposedly from your bank/simply ask that person for his/her name (at that time, the person might hang up on you!), that you will call back. Then, look up your bank's actual phone number, then call them back. Another scam is "you won a prize," that they need your information. I haven't seen the old Nigerian scam in a long time. A former neighbor who had serious mental issues fell for that, losing $5k each time. It is highly unlikely that you will get anything for free, other than robbed.

Very good video Brian! I get spam messages all the time, most are obvious, some are ridiculously vague. 1) NEVER do business on the phone with anyone who calls and asks you to verify who YOU are or asks for information from you. 2) Do not click on ANYTHING in a text message, even if you think it's valid. Go out to the web site (do not use links in the message to get there), sign in and see for yourself if there is a problem.

For example, people don't know how to perform CPR or treatment for snakebite unless they're taught: not knowing particular things isn't stupidity, informing people isn't hard, and it's no skin off your nose. Even the scam experts have fallen for scams.

There's one SMS currently going around in Australia purporting to be from a road toll company stating that the toll trip account is overdue. The amount is usually less than $5.00. When the victim does fall for it, they scammers go for the works and spend up on the CC account.

    • @jayjaynella4539

That is because the toll companies are operating under false contracts in direct violation of contract law and the people were never allowed to vote on toll roads that enrich private companies. The toll companies sponsor the scammers, just like the govs sponsor other gov related scams.

I get this scam a lot, which is funny because I have no car, no licence, don't drive, hardly leave the house, live on an island state that has no toll roads, and haven't been off the island in over 20 years. I'm almost tempted to listen to them trying to tell me I definitely owe this and that, then inform them of those details and have them get snippy and tell me the police will get me - using the information on my non-existent registration for my non-existent car, but it's probably just not worth the effort.

The vast majority of companies don't text you. So if I see a text from a company I do business with I normally delete the text without reading it. Those companies generally use email. Most of the time you can tell by looking at the email address they used if it is a correct email address. But when in doubt you can check directly with the company on-line or by phone using the phone number from their website.

The courier company scams are easy to spot because they never contain a reference number with your unique consignment number.
All genuine couriers sending you SMS messages to give you tracking information for your shipment include a unique reference number into the URL.
That's how you can identify if the message is a scam/phishing message or genuine .
