It was normal for one AV program to detect another as a virus in the past.
This was due to the signature database being detected as a virus because it contains bits of virus that the program uses to detect viruses basically using a search routine similar to doing a word search in a document.

I bought the 2nd tier package of Total AV but for some reason they tried charging me for the entry level package then a second charge for the upgraded package. The first charge went through but the second one tripped my debit cards fraud alert. So I googled "why did total AV trigger my credit card" and was shocked to see how many people complain about them pulling unauthorized withdrawals from bank accounts. As far as I can tell, the service works ok but the fact that they have a bad reputation for just pulling random withdrawals from people's accounts is troubling. I contacted my bank and told them to block all future withdraw attempts from them.

I used to use Avast and it was great, but once Gen Digital aquired the they turned into a totally obnoxious upselling tactics. IMO their marketing tactics are unethical.

At first i thought it was from a user profile going by the file names but have since discovered it's just common windows file names, after successfully clearing one of the laptops thanks to your guidance. Keen to hear your expert opinion. Thanks mate 👍

    Tip
You can buy licenses for various programs at retail outlets often cheaper than the online or renewal version.
As a personal rule putting my credit card details in the hands of others is to be avoided like the plague.
This is because I subscribed to a news service for one month as a trial thinking that I’d only get access for a month, but every month they debited my card and I spent an entire day getting my bank to block it as fraud as there was no way to cancel the subscription. The links to cancel all went to a broken page and no email was answered and the only phone number was a pay number where you were billed ten dollars a minute.

Unfortunately autorenewals are getting more and more common and often are pain in a$$ to terminate.
But there are two easy ways to avoid it.
    1) create virtual card, pay with it and then cancel card (after payment goes through).
    2) Pay with Paypal then go to paypal automatic payment list and cancel it there.
After that they cant bill you with autorenewal.
Btw on Paypal almost every payment get on automatic payment list which means if there is another "subscription" payment it goes through. Maybe good idea to review list time from time and remove/deactivate sites you dont use regularly.

In my opinion, ESET and F-SECURE are the only antivirus vendors that I will use as they're both very light on resources, are the only ones that don't try to upsell other crap, aren't bloated and don't use scareware tactics such as Norton, Avast, Avira and most of the very well known companies. Total AV look to be the worst of the bottom feeder AV's out there! Great video, thanks!

Be careful with Kaspersky too. My Kaspersky subscription was due for renewal last July 2022. I wanted to cancel my subscription, but I can't find their cancel subscription link, button, whatever in my Kaspersky account. I had to contact the customer service just to cancel my subscription. By the time they replied, the auto-renewal has already kicked in. I was so pissed I deleted my Kaspersky account. I'm betting this has to do with politics seeping into their business. For those who are still using Kaspersky and are subscribed to their auto renewal policy, check if you can cancel your subscription. It's stated in their FAQ that it's in your Kaspersky license settings, account settings, I kinda forgot because it was already a long time. But when I checked where the cancel button or link was supposed to be, I couldn't find any. After watching this vid, I'm kinda leaning into the idea that Kaspersky has become predatory ever since their illegal invasion of Ukraine.

I want an antivirus suite that:
1.) Stops every intrusion dead in it's tracks before "whatever" can cause any damage.
2.) When searching the web - I want it to let me know legitimate web sites with a marker.
3.) Ad Blocker, Pop Up Blocker.
4.) Isolation and encryption for financial transactions.
5.) Not a rip-off when it comes to price.
6.) Ease of use and Management. Meaning it doesn't become stupid when I go about my business and if there is a concern it shows a notification and does not just prevent functionality without notification - the most useless task in trouble shooting is wasting time figuring out your virus software is the problem.
7.) Minimal Use of computer resources.
8.) Is not an ad generating POC.
So yeah - I use Kaspersky Total Security. For $180 ish I get two years worth of license on up to 5 computers. That's about $18 bucks a year per computer. I think for $80 you get the same thing for 3 computers. Been with them for a long time (decade or more).
Great Video Thanks for taking the time.

I've been using AVG Internet Security and have tried out their AVG Tune Up and AVG Driver Updater. Well...the year is up and they want their renewal payment. AVG also nags you to buy their other products, which I'm getting tired of. I've been annoyed lately when their Web Shield tool wouldn't let me sign out of my Amazon account one day, claiming some sort of bad thing trying to happen, so...I turned that tool off so I could log out. Of course, I got some whining about having turned it off, though I left it off for a couple days. No scans ever found any issues. It wouldn't let me sign into Amazon (I had been using the same exact URL for years with no trouble before) or out of, until I shut down that tool and left it off for a while. I turned it back on just to see if it would happen again, though it hasn't...yet. So, maybe it was due to some update or something just getting hung up somewhere. AVG today blocked something that Corel Paintshop 2022 Pro needs, though I can't seem to find it listed anywhere (it was a pop-up notification AVG put up then did away with, so I didn't have time to find out what exactly they blocked -- I didn't have Paintshop running today). Strange.
I also have Malwarebytes installed and it's been working fine, though...today it blocked a couple of AVG's files that it shouldn't have (as far as I know). Trying to add something to their "Allow" list is rather cumbersome and could be streamlined better.
Being retired and living in Alaska where prices for things are higher than in the Lower 48, my funds only stretch so far, so I may hold off on renewing anything for a while and just stick with basics. I don't spend a lot of time on the Internet and don't go poking around on risky sites. I also get a bit upset every time AVG wipes out something for Firefox every week so that has to "update" (read: reinstall whatever AVG got rid of), and I also end up having to use 2FA to get back into several sites (2FA has it's own risks -- check out Rob Braxman's channel on that).
