i went on a 1st date with a young lady (40s) from Ethiopia and she started feeding me. at first i felt weird until she explained what its all about, then i sat back and enjoyed the experience. we were at a Greek restaurant so we got some strange looks from people there.👀👀👀.
It’s crazy how this is so close to how we(Mexicans) eat when we use a tortilla exactly how they pick it up we do too lol now I wish I can try some of this!!!
I am sorry, I dont buy the literal meaning of 'gursha' as 'feeding each other.' It starts with the symbolic dish in a circle, notion of community/ familiness and in the family/ community you always expect, not only eating, but having communion. Then Gursha give it spiritual meaning to that togetherness- an act/ disposition of respect, closeness and love for that particular fellow person/s enagged in the act of eating together. I am sorry I disagree with the literal meaning of 'feeding one another. In case I dine outside {Hotel}, I may invite someone close to my seat [whome I dont know, but waiting to eat or whatever] to eat withme when my meal was served. In this case, I will not give him/ her gursha!
Do Ethiopians ever eat any of their foods using spoons, forks, or knives? I would not want to share a plate of food with others like in this video because I have a fear of getting other people germs. LOL I was at the a grocery store the other day and I ordered something from the the hot bar. The young man did not put on gloves and I had to bring it to his attention. The other staff members behind the hot bar were wearing gloves. I eat hot dogs and hamburgers using my hands and sometimes fried chicken. LOL I have a lot of Ethiopian neighbors and I must learn more about their culture, and why so many Ethiopians have come to the United States or Washington, DC. I heard there has been a war in Ethiopia for years along with poverty. I do know, many of the Ethiopians living in the Washington, D.C. are well educated, and many have college degrees.
Carlos Bright it is Ethiopian culture to eat with hand but if you prefer to use spoon, you can have that as well. Also, you can order individual plate if that pleased you. As Ethiopian, we don’t eat always together but when we do, we do it with family members or close friends. There is specific way of holding the Injera( the flat bread) to attach the different kinds of sauces. Believe me, using ur hand is more sanitary than using utensils at any restaurants.
You wrote this comment twice. Ethiopians always used spoons, forks and knives go eat soup, porridge and for eating burrindo(beef steaks). Just not for injera.
KA Ka actually you can but you need to have your own plate. Also the flat bread(injera) is difficult to deep it in the stew or other varities with fork or spoon.

It's funny how that Ethiopian woman is telling the Indian woman how to eat with hands. 😂 I mean indians eat with their hands all the time 😎

Just curious, how much did this plate cost? In the US, I would say $50 USD. In Ethiopia, I would say it's 1/10th of this.
