En Vogue was the bomb. They were deliberately assembled to be a killer group, and they were. ("Hold On," "My Lovin'" and "Don't Let Go" are more R 'n' B.)
"Giving Him Something He Can Feel" is a classic RnB song covered by En Vogue, and also sung by Aretha Franklin. You should check it out, you'd enjoy it.
So true. Gen X grew up post MLK Jr and we believe in the principle of judging on individual merit. Skin colour was unimportant, we all loved each other's music and that was cool. I was into Martin Gaye, Prince, Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, Blur, Nirvana, Crowded House, Portishead, Sheryl Crow and dance music. A bit eclectic. The 90s ruled.
My fave R&B group of the '90s! "Free Your Mind" was their foray into rock (I think Janet Jackson's "Black Cat" came out around the same time? which I loved as well). A friend of mine in school turned me on to them with their first hit "Hold On." But I think my ultimate favorite song of theirs is "Never Gonna Get It." You want those '90s R&B harmonies, they had it.
This was one of my daughters favorite groups when she was a teenager, she’s 36 now. I think you would be surprised how many of us don’t even think about race and color until someone starts bringing it up. I am from a poor family, we had nothing. We treated everyone as brothers and sisters. Still do.
This is probably their most 'Rock' song, whether you call them R&B, Pop, Rock, whatever, they're about the harmonies. Try 'Whatta Man' with En Vogue and Salt 'N Pepa.
Back in the day this song was ahead of it’s time and showed strong hot women of color killing it... the message was and is still very timeless... the beat was infectious and the hook well hella great...

EnVogue is the most vocally talented female vocal group since the Emotions. This just happens to be a song they rock out on. To see another side of them, check out the music video for their song "Giving Him Something He Can Feel."
These ladies are beautiful and talented. They have so many great songs. This was a different sound for them but this song is as necessary now as it was back then.
They were an R&B/Pop group that pre dates Destiney’s Child. They just happened to rock out on this song, the same way Janet Jackson did with Black Cat. As a four-part harmony group, they were distinctive and incredibly talented. Listen to Hold On and Don’t Let Go.
En Vogue was one of the top groups of the nineties! They had a string of R&B hits! All four women have amazing voices and all took turns lead singing! I love this song because they switched it up and rocked out!❤️❤️
Definitely a strong 90’s R&B girl group. And I can name so many other songs that others in the comment section have already mentioned. This song was them crossing genres into more rock themed vibe.
Love watching these reactions. He has a fresh and intelligent perspective on these old songs. Stumbled on this channel last weekend and ended up watching 3 hours straight 😆
They are an R&B group...this is just ONE of the songs from one of their albums. But yes, the cast majority of their songs were R&B. (That does not mean that they couldn’t venture out into various styles also)

They were definitely making a statement with this song, but they are R&B.
Yes! I think it's perfect that the genre is a bit different cuz we really had to "free our minds" from pigeon-holing them.
Yes, R&B, but with a little pop too! They were one of my favorites from the 90s!
Who cares of they were (are) R'n'B
What I loved about them is they were the “funky” divas - always playing with form, content, presentation, and always on point!
