Let's not forget about Spinderella doin' the darn thang on the turntable 👍😎
Best DJ name ever.
Quite underrated DJ.
She was always my favourite 💜💜💜💜
So true! Love Spinderella!
Spin was epic!
It’s actually a trio of girls. MCs Salt and Pepa and DJ Spinderella in the back 💪😍
Spinderella omg I love it.
@@tracerow She's GORGEOUS too!
I had a huge crush on Spinderella
And Herbie Luvbug was the producer
There went through two or theee DJs in the early days of the group, all called "Spinderella".
I may be a mom now but if Salt n Peppa comes on the radio i’m gonna PUSH IT like a drunk college girl. 😝 LOVE THIS SONG
id like to see that lol
Oh Shelli, you just gave me an idea. I may bring my boom box to the next school board meeting and see what happens.
Yorkville Vic I would love to see what happens 😆
i'm not a mom, but this little ol' white lady former librarian is TOTALLY ON BOARD WITH THIS... and, yes, the boom box with this on cassette is the way to do it!
GET IT LIL MAMA!
We had so much fun back then. Cool girls with strong personalities, speaking out what they want. No streamlined optics, hair extensions, strange lips, noses and butts. Just confident. True role models. And music was not streamlined either. Enjoyed your reaction:)
And they weren't wearing next to nothing too! My daughters are always pleasantly surprised by the women in the 80s being fully clothed in music videos. The music spoke for itself.
👏👏👏👏
First half you had but then lost me stop putting women against each other. Every woman has the right to do with their bodies as they want ...wear what they want ...sing sbout what they want .. and the 80s weren't better Janet and Latoya Jackson when we talk about surgery ...and you really want to tell that there weren't half naked female singer? Then you lived under a stone.
@@jadasilly thank you for your comment. I am not against transforming however you want. For me it's just too artificial, exaggerated and boring in a way - Obviously there is pressure to fit a certain look. I find it refreshing to look at Agnethas gap between her teeth. Someone with a natural lip or a natural flat butt. Seeing women who do not feel the need to completely disguise who they are. Female artist today face a lot of pressure and are constantly trying to "optimise" themselves, to be their "best version". By social media this concept is transported to 12 year olds... I believe that therefore Billie Eilish is very important, healthy and modern role model.
For real!!!!
This was an anthem during my childhood years. Salt n Pepa rocked the 80's and 90s!
It is Salt, Pepa and the DJ is Spinderella. It was a 'Girl Group' for sure!
A "girl group" except for the man who created it, then produced the songs and wrote their lyrics!
@@jdfodio Kind of like every other 'group' put together by an agent and signed to a record label chock full of writers and producers. And the men you talk about must be the same men who robbed them blind, signed them to awful deals and took all their royalties! Yeah for men! Yo go!!!!
You know Queen Latifah was a rapper, too, before she became an actress and all around celebrity. You might want to do one of her videos, she was totally unique and one of the very few female rappers who broke through the barrier.
Ladies First and U.N.I.T.Y. are classics!
Queen queen still rhymes 😀
Just Another Day
People born from 2000 have no idea bout 80s and 90s. Fucking epic time to be growing up
Enjoyed your reaction, yeah this was a jam. The next songs should be "Shoop" and "What a Man."
don't forget 'Let's talk about sex' another great Salt n Pepa song:)
Yeh What a man with en vogue is such a great song!
Jayvee..... the first album I ever purchased was Hot, Cool & Vicious by Salt N Pepa!!! Start with "Tramp" also "Shake Your Thang" & "Expression" were favs!!!!
@@PheLaReux I would go to my friend's house to listen their album, on tape! Lol
EXACTLY what I was going to post :D
The next great song 🎵 by Salt and Peppa is Let's Talk About Sex...it's got a fabulous beat!!
Specifically the extra crispy mix!!
OH he totally has got to hear that song!!!!!
Yessss!!
That's it, I couldn't think of that title, that's the song I relate Salt and Pepa to
"Free Your Mind," En Vogue!
YES!!!!
Anything on vogue great harmonies hold on is best
Yes..OMG just so many good songs!!
OktoberFest song 😅
Fun fact- Pepa’s asymmetrical haircut came about because her sister tried to perm her hair and burned it off.
You should do Shoop or Whatta Man by them next.
Yep, she said her scalp was burned so bad they had to shade parts in with a brown eyeliner
Great Fun Fact! Thanks
HaHa!...that's really FUNNY! 💇🏿♀️🔥🧯
Shoop was way better than push it. It showed them actually rapping.
@@1984msmocha I must be the only person who doesn’t like their “Shoop” song. 🤷🏻♀️
Gotta love the 80's!!
We had so much fun back then!!
🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Yeessss those were the days
Yes we did!!!
So much fun!
Of course you girls did.. that's All you ever did!...
'Cause girls just wanna have fun!
I'll show myself out now!
This is early 90's not the 80's.
FUN FACT: The lyrics quote a line from "You Really Got Me" by The Kinks, with the word "girl" replaced with "boy"; "Boy, you really got me goin', You got me so I don't know what I'm doin'". It also quotes "Pick up on this" from "I'm a Greedy Man" and "There it is" from the song "There It Is", both by James Brown. The whispered "Push it" is sampled from a record called "Keep on Pushin'" by the band Coal Kitchen. Rolling Stone ranks the song #446 on the 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time chart.
Speaking of the Kinks song, and the recent passing of Eddie Van Halen (RIP):
Van Halen released a cover of "You Really Got Me" for their 1978 debut album, Van Halen. As the band's first single, it was a popular radio hit that helped jump-start the band's career, as it had done for the Kinks 14 years earlier. This version, which was cited by Eddie Van Halen as an "updated" version of the original, featured "histrionic" guitar playing by Eddie Van Halen and "vocal shenanigans" by David Lee Roth.
CitizensForPaulAddis Wow great Fun Fact addition. Thanks!
Thank you David Rose :)
Yes thank you I was wondering if anyone else ever noticed lol!
@@musemoon Thank you for the fun fact! My friends and I had picked up on the Kinks verse but the rest I wasn't aware of. Thanks for sharing.
I'm always surprised at what songs/music people don't know because I listen to just about everything.
Trish Gift yeah me too, I’m like how do you not know this? 🤷🏼♀️😂
Same! Super eclectic in taste! My playlist is a jumbled mess, definitely not predictable lol. I pretty much love all music with a few exceptions but not many!
You have got to play,
"Let's talk about sex"
Such a really catchy song !
This song is iconic.
It's that old school 80s hip hop feel with the 808's and synths like you said, Elektro, (my Jr high school years!) that was the style of hip hop back in the day and this song was huge . Salt and peppa went on to make tons of hits in the 90s, totally different sound of course. Great reaction!
90's not 80's
These ladies were pure talent!! When this first came out, I had never heard anything like it. It blew me away. As stage performers, no one can compare. They brought this amazing energy to their shows. Salt n pepa were just the two singers. The others were their back-up musicians/dancers.
Salt is the one with dark hair, Peppa has the blond hair, Spinderella is the DJ. I think this was their first crossover hit.
I dance to this in an underground club in LA
next to Prince. Everything was going great until the DJ played a Prince song and he walked of the dance floor. That's my memory of this song. I wish I could of gotten a picture but we didn't have cell phones back then 🤦♀️🤷♀️♥️
FLORENTINE GARDENS
@@mastiffpeople4868 was that the name of the place? I honestly don't remember, but I drove my friends red Ferreira for the first and only time! It was a helluva a night!! Late 80's 🤷♀️♥️
What a great memory 😃
Salt n Pepa was the first female hip hop group to really blow up. They helped pave the way for a lot of other groups like TLC. Also check out "Shoop."
LMAO at this reaction. 😂 "I have no idea what I'm listening to." Actually you hit the nail on the head. Old school hip hop and yes it has a bit of a techno feel. The ladies can rap like nobody's business. Check out Shoop and What a Man. Believe it or not, Salt N Pepa are actually the three ladies. Spinderella was their DJ and she could rap too.
🙋💃YEAH!! Baby, baby!😆Groundbreaking women! Try "What A Man " - sung w/other gorgeous gal group, En Vogue!!
Also check out (CC & the Music Factory - Gonna make you Sweat, Everybody Dance Now.....it will really get you moving on the dance floor!!) Also Marky Mark - Good Vibrations
EVERYBODY DANCE NOW !!!!!
"Buffalo Stance" by Neneh Cherry came out around the same time as "Push It", I remember both songs getting a lot of airplay on the FM radio back in the late 80s.
How can you not like it...80s music especially the mid to late 80s was poppin
This is classic!!!! So VERY 80’s!!!
Try En Vogue’s “free your mind.” I think you’ll really appreciate the words in that one.
One of the first female rappers we heard over here in the UK. This song was huge. We’d never heard anything like it! They set the tone for many others to come. It’s still on my playlist first 30 years later and would still get me up on the dancefloor if I heard it.
Fun fact: Salt, Peppa, Kid, Play, Herbie lovelovebug (the guys saying "push it) and Martin Lawrence all worked at the same sears call center around the same time.
Jovaughn had a permanent GRIN on his face during this reaction! 😁🤣
They were the female equivalent to run DMC me at the same time basically hip hop legends💯
Salt 'n' Pepa are three girls, Salt, Pepa, and Spinderella on the decks.
"What am I listening to?" That Jayvee is the "number 1 hot party song" from the 80s. Right out the gate, Salt n Pepa blew up the rap music scene w their MC (master of ceremony) skills on the mic, and high energy dance moves w DJ Spinderella spinning (scratching) on the turntable. The name "Salt n Pepa" (pepper) is an old euphemism for a "black and white couple". In this case, Salt (Cheryl James) has light complexion, and Pepa (Sandra Denton) has the darker complexion. Check out "Love Bandit (Bet You Got a Chick on the Side), "Let's Talk About Sex", "Shoop", and their monster duet w En Vogue "What A Man". Keep the dance hits coming!.
This song was a huge club banger back in the mid to late 80's. It was always blasting out of the clubs on Avenida Revolución in Tijuana. I remember break dancing. I never tried it. I was a little metal head back then. This song came out a few years after break dancing peaked. Cool jam. Infectious beat. Catchy hook.
These guys were three of the MAJOR pioneers of women's hip-hop, back in the mid-80s. Very, very important trio.
My fave S&P song of ALL TIME. Makes me lose all my decorum when i hear those opening bars
This was huge back in the day we played this at every party, they were so fresh and would still get everyone on the dance floor if you played it now at a club.
These woman are trailblazers. Gawd damn I am so greatful to come up in these times.
My JAM!
They’re so fun! I second the requests for “Shoop” and “What a Man”!
From the LADIES of the time......Hip Hop at it's tops!!! You got to do a reaction of Salt-N-Pepa, "SHOOP"!!!
I enjoyed hearing this song again. ❤
These women were trail blazers for female rappers
This was a very popular song in the 80’s for sure!
"Hey yo guys, I have no idea what I'm listening to right now, but man, I gotta say, I like it man." lmaoooooo! Your face expression is priceless! lmao!!! This was a time!!! You had to live it! Synthesizers and rap, they were cutting edge and led the way not only for many female artists, but also for rap as a whole. I just saw your react to "Hot For Teacher", then this, and am thankful I was a pre teen/teen in this open era. You should do their song Shoop. :) Great react!! lol!!!
No club ever had people sitting when this song came on.... Ahhh, the memories
Jay's like "I wonder what's it's about?" Hahaha 😉 He didn't know what he was in for! I pressed Like before it even started. This is a TUUUNNEEE!!!
My daughter could hear the beat from my headphones and started signing along. lol!
Still waiting on Toni Braxton -Youre Making Me High.
I was so obsessed with Salt-N-Pepa when I was a kid. You should listen to their first single 'The Showstopper' which is an answer record to Doug E. Fresh's (featuring Slick Rick) song, 'The Show'. Back then artists would put out songs and some artists might do an answer track to the song. In fact, I would suggest listening to the Doug E Fresh song and then the Salt-N-Pepa track.
You should also check these SNP songs some released as videos others audio only:

Listen to What a Man by Salt and Pepper. Love love them ❤️
In my day, this song comes on you are UP on the dance floor.
1988 back in my clubbin days.
We wassome nasty dancers!!😂😂
Happy Wednesday J. This was a JAM back in the day.
The pure joy on your face was so much fun to watch! Salt-N-Peppa was great. The third was Spinderella and those are synthesizers you love so much 💞
This is generation who know how to dance👌👌👌
I love this! When this song would come on the radio, even my mom was jamming!
In these days the majority of pop culture still considered hip.hop a joke... But we knew this shit was shaping the landscape because we couldn't put the earphones down... Imagine hip hop being knew to planet... I was there
I wish I could upvote this 1000 times. If you can't dance to this, you're dead.
Salt 'n' Pepa with Spinderella. Remember rocking to this at night clubs in the 90s and other trax.
This song was a big hit in the 80's and when it came on in a club, the dance floor was FULL.
Saw them last year in concert on the New Kids on the Block tour and they still got it going on ❤️
There was a population boom in the US in the 90's. Turns on anything Salt-n-Pepa recorded... Here we go again! These girls brought so much sexy swag for females that was really only there by Madonna and a few others.
The beat in this song is everything.
Oh God the memories I have with this song! 😆😍😎
Love this!! Everytime we'd hear this we'd turn up the volume and bust out dancing!! Salt n Pepa ruled with Spinderella!! Great times!!
Glad you liked it!! 👍
Yes I rocked this style bac in the day 🤎🤎✌🏾✌🏾
Epic jam, Salt n Pepa ruled and were Pioneers in the Girl Power Movement!
Thomas Dolby "She Blinded Me with Science" has a strong electronic keyboard riff like this!
This was a big tune in Ireland. That’s how big this song was! We used to do the dance in our school when the nuns weren’t watching 😂
The 80s is the best decade for music imho. Back when hip hop was something you can dance to and it had no curse words like rap in the later years.
Salt-N-Pepa Salt- Cheryl James (dark hair) Pepa- Sandra Denton (brashy orange hair) DJ Spinderella- Deidra Roper spinnin’
This 3 Girls are legendary
Expression, Whatta Man, Do You Want Me, None of Your Business, Let’s Twlk About Sex, and Shoop are some of their other hits.
Salt N Pepa is the highest selling female rap group of all time and known for their feminist message in their music.
The smile on Jay’s face is priceless
This was a big hit back in thd 90s club scene heres a few more!
Snap "The Power"
"Rhythm is a dancer"
Bel Biv Devoe "Poison"
Jagged Edge "Lets get married" Remarqable Remix official video
It’s a female rap duo salt n pepa with spindarella on the turntables. This song was popular about 33 yrs ago. Takes me back. Love it! And I love your reactions!! If you do more salt n pepa try “Shoop” next time. ❤️
My favorite jam since the 80s! Love your reaction ♥
I'm a 39 year old white British man I grew up to this I just had to show my partner who they are I was so lucky to grow up to this.
Love watching your reaction to first time you've seen them.
gotta boogie down to this one lol, I really miss when everyone put so much work into dancing so funnnnn!!!!
Their dancing was so good. So much talent.
"I have no idea what I'm listening to right now but I like it" while chuckling. No better way to describe anything 🤣🤣🤣
Whew! Danced like I did back in high school. So much fun reliving 80s music with you!
Saw their last concert. SO Much Fun sounded N looked Great! The crowd was getting down parents brought their kids to introduce them to the legend SnP. LOVE THEM!
Salt-N-Pepa’s debut album Hot, Cool & Vicious (1987) sold more than one million copies in the US, making them the first female rap group to achieve either gold (500,000 copies) or platinum (1,000,000 copies) status.
Love it!! You literally have me smiling the whole with these reactions .... I love your ability to dissect music and respect the good, laugh at the different, and expand your mind.
Pepa(Sandra Denton) was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1966. She met salt( Cheryl James ) at nursing School in New York. They are one of the all time best selling female rap groups.
Salt, Pepa and Spinderella and the keyboard guy with the male dancers. FANTASTIC!!!
What a bassline!!!One of the first all girl rap bands! It came out of Nowhere and was deservedly a huge hit! I showed my young niece how to play it on keyboards and she played nothing else for ages without actually knowing the song! I eventually played the original for her.
SNP are dope! So glad you did this!!
This was before you were born, Son! Back when we knew how to have FUN!
My best all time dance song from back in da day. You wanna see the dance floor Erupt and peops kicking up some best legs! Rocks!
Saw them live in London in 1988 - at Wembley Stadium - still love this song,.
Jay, you are hilarious,. Your smile and joy is infectious, I love it
When you start dancing. 😍😍😍
Let's keep it going with some 'Misled' by Kool and the gang. 🎶 🎶 🎶
Definately 🙌

This came out when we all still got along... There was a window of time that was AWESOME. This song came on and we ALL got down! 😂
That first "Ahhhh, push it" was our call to the dance floor at the all ages club. Good times.
Saw them a while back during the 90s tour and they still were awesome! My friends and I jammed this song back in the day all day every day lol Still know every word.
