Babel's garments we've rejected and our fellowship is o'er... may we as the Church embrace that knowing we are not of the world...
Truer now then when you wrote this three years ago.
This has GOT to be one of my favorite Sacredharp songs.
Me too, like a bunch of others.
And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. -Jeremiah 29:13
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. -John 3:16
Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.
-Acts 3:19

Wow,how strange and wonderful even looks like a cult lol praise Jesus babylon is fallen amen hallelujah 🎉❤😂
Written by a Canadian man named W.E. Chute, closely based on "Sons of Sorrow", but with more complex chorus section.
Full (or extended) lyrics as follows:
1. Hail the day so long expected, Hail the year of full release
Zion's walls are now erected, and her watchmen publish peace.
From the distant coast of Shinar, the shrill trumpet loudly roars,
_Babylon is fallen, is fallen, is fallen, Babylon is fallen, to rise no more!_
2. Hark and hear her people crying: "see the city disappear!
"Trade and traffic now are dying! Lo, we sink and perish here!"
Sailors who have brought her treasures, crying from the distant shores,
_Babylon is fallen, is fallen, is fallen, Babylon is fallen, to rise no more!_
3. All her merchants stand in wonder, "what is this that comes to pass?"
Murmuring like a distant thunder, crying out "Alas! Alas!"
Swell the sound ye kings and nobles, priests and peoples rich and poor!
_Babylon is fallen, is fallen, is fallen, Babylon is fallen, to rise no more!_
4. Lo! The captives are returning, up to Zion see them fly,
while the smoke from Babel's burning rolls across the darkened sky.
Days of mourning now are ended, years of bondage now are o'er!
_Babylon is fallen, is fallen, is fallen, Babylon is fallen, to rise no more!_
5. Zion's children tune your voices, and the joyful news proclaim,
How the heav'nly Host rejoices, shout and echo back the same!
See the ancients of the city, terrified at the uproar,
_Babylon is fallen, is fallen, is fallen, Babylon is fallen, to rise no more!_
6. Tune your harps ye heav'nly choir, shout ye foll'wers of the Lamb!
See the city all afire! Clap your hands and blow the flame!
Now's the day of compensation on the Scarlet Colored Whore*
_Babylon is fallen, is fallen, is fallen, Babylon is fallen, to rise no more!_
7. Blow the trumpet in Mount Zion! Christ shall come a second time!
Ruling with a rod of iron, all who once as foes combined!
Babel's garments we've rejected, and our fellowship is o'er,
_Babylon is fallen, is fallen, is fallen, Babylon is fallen, to rise no more!_
_Oh! Babylon is fallen, is fallen, is fallen, Babylon is fallen, to rise no more!_
Only verses 1, 3 and 7 are included in the Sacred Harp.
Actually, it can be traced back to a 1813 Shaker hymnal and it has been suggested that it may have been sung by Parliamentary forces during the English Civil War.
W.E. Chute composed the tune by which it is sung today.
I’ve had this song stuck in my head the past few days (I’m American).
Same, man. Same.
And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. -Jeremiah 29:13
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. -John 3:16

And I, I'm living in Scotland.
Same, brother
As much a king’s man I am, this almost sells me to the roundheads side.
Burt Macklin he’s talking about the English Civil War. The Roundheads were the parliamentarians (Cromwell and the like) chopped King Charles head off (RIP). This song was sort of an anthem for them.
@@KyleEricksonPoetry1617 it will have a new meaning in the time to come.
Great version of this by the English folk rock band 'Home Service' on their album 'Alright Jack'.
Hail the day so long expected,
Hail the year of full release.
Zion’s walls are now erected,
And her watchmen publish peace.
Through our Shiloh’s wide dominion,
Hear the trumpet loudly roar,
Babylon is fallen to rise no more.
[All her merchants stand with wonder,

Murm’ring like the distant thunder,
Crying, “Oh alas, alas.”
Swell the sound, ye kings and nobles,

Dorothyellen w Thanks for the lyrics! I've listened to this about 20 times now during the past week when I first discovered this gem and you've helped me get the last lines! My ear couldn't grasp "Babel's garments." I kept saying "what have they rejected?" And thanks for filling-in what they didn't sing; it's great stuff. Nice cat by the way!
@@lawrenceashley3439 You're welcome, sorry i replied so late! And my little Goldie is almost 14 years old now!
Such big smiles on everyone's faces! Looks like a blast.
Powerful and triumphant! Sing on!

unglaublich gewaltig und schön!
I'm glad to be of help! I went to an online index of these songs.
Interesting to learn that there is such an interest in this form of singing, though the southern Americans often are descend from Scotts-Irish ancestry.
The original "Sacred Harp" was compiled by B.F. White in Harris County, Georgia and first published in Philadelphia in 1844.
It’s an English tradition.
Babylon is fallen.
Great congregational type singing - should be a church standard if not already.
The young man and young woman could not be more diametrically opposite in their assertiveness and energy. Wouldn't surprise me if they were siblings.
Adding this to my list of favorites.

Very catchy song. I like it!

Awesome!!
Unfortunately, at present it looks like Babylon is only getting stronger every day...
Very much hoping that's not the BUF logo in your profile picture.

I've been searching everywhere to find the tune, but just found the lyric. Anyone please help me, how can i get the note?
The name of the tune IS 'Babylon is Fallen and it is #117 in The Sacred Harp (1991 edition) hymnal which is available on the Resources page of this website: ua-cam.com/channels/XlB_U7HRWu-8w5Oc6FE7ig.html There are regular singings that take place in most states of the US and in at least 6 other countries, which you can find listed on the Singings page of the same website. It is very rewarding to attend one of these gatherings (in my experience)! They often have loaner books for newcomers, so you don't have to buy one unless you want to. ENJOY! 😉❤🎵
This is about Rome, too. Revelation Ch 17-19. Was taken over by zevits 1958.
It’s about Akkad, Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Rome, Spain, England, America, every great empire that inevitably falls to the Mother of Harlots
Wow...................wpw
Why are they doing the 'tomahawk chop'? Are they in Atlanta?
It’s to keep in sync with the rest of the singers
@@BeanOfBean Then that must be why the Indians did it! Perhaps they were singing to their victims?

What's up with the arm pumping
Sacred Harp singing is a style used here where there are 4 parts broken up into octave range and 4 kinds of sounds that are denoted by a shape. The arm pumping is an age old way to stay in time with so much happening.
Love the rainbow suspenders on the old dude. Go girl.
Alan Lomax on the Sacred Harp 1982: ua-cam.com/video/w3mb3Ya9OUc/v-deo.html
I hope that guy's rainbow suspenders don't mean what I think they mean.
Well, the rainbow is a symbol of god's connection with, and leadership of, his chosen people, so it fits perfectly - or was this not the meaning you were thinking of [insert wink]?
Ruining the mood with your negativity
Hey I don't mean to hate. It's still a good recording of a good song.
The young woman owns it. Don't know why the other two are in the center.
Maybe they were invited into the middle - when you have four part harmony arranged in a square like this the middle is where the best stereo sound effect is...
Anyone can take a turn leading a song - if they wanted to lead for a first time, they may have asked an experienced friend to help.
Sister and Brother? Wife and Husband?
Too bad they aren't singing the actual lyrics.
They start at 0:36
Not a single harp can be heard.
Beautiful!
