Heat shrink tubing. Just tried this hack and works very well. Cut the tubing slightly longer than the metal peg and apply a little heat (lighter works w ell). The tubing shrinks and will fit in the hole just snug enough to stay in place and the great thing is the pegs can be removed easily so you can rearrange till your heart's content with no damage to the board.
Love this idea !!
I'm going to have to try this. The hot glue sounded like a good idea, but it is 13 dgrees where I live and about 40 in my garage where the pegboard is installed and the glue sticks to the hook fine, but pulls right off my white painted pegboard.
Awesome Idea. I literally have like 20 hooks behind my bench! doing this tomorrow! Thanks for Sharing.
Very simple , but a GAME CHANGER ! Thanks for that idea!!!!
I just used my T25 stapler and stapled down the hooks... and you won't damage the board removing them
yea no one gives a shit with spam
OMG... I literally ran down in my shop and hotglued every hook...thank you
Happy to hear that level of excitement, these hooks can be a pain lol
Love it!! Ive always wanted a pegboard, and one has been given to me and now getting ready to get some hooks... didn't know that the hooks come out so easily, so GREAT to know, and the glue gun hack is great!! Glad I came across this!!
Just put up pegboard in my garage this afternoon. My assorted pegs came with little black plastic lock thingies that lock pegs down. Seems to work fine!
Simple, brilliant idea! Thank You! I did it and it works great!
Wow, stupid simple fix. Thank you!
I feel your pain about the hooks falling out. Makes me rage every time
Ok video. But they do make hook secure ties that will prevent hook from falling off. Plus, don't like glue crap over the pegboard. Here's an idea, can you just tie wrap the hook....you should have a space between pegboard and wall...
Like the video, but one of the benefits of pegboard is the versatility, and the ability to make changes when necessary.
Just made some changes to my board and the hot glue came off with a quick blade swipe. The glue stayed attached to the prongs so all I had to do was hit them with the heat gun and they are stuck again !
@@screwedandglued Good to know. I’ll give this a try. Thanks.
You can easily remove the hot glue. Besides most of the time you don't move much on it. It stays put.
Here’s my two cents: Re: those little black springy things to hold the pegs in - yeah my peg set came with those, I don’t think they work for st. Re: hot glue - hot glue is one of the easiest things to remove. Just a quick swipe with a blade, it comes right off. Or just blast it with a heat gun for a second, your item is immediately unglued.
Genius! Thanks for sharing.
Totally related! Great idea - doing that today.
Nice solution for pegboard trauma!
Some great ideas. Thanks!!
Fantastic idea. Thanks!
Thank you for helping out the pegboard community...Just installed mine yesterday and it makes too much sense
Looks like your missing the hook clips. It’s a wire that holds the hook in place. ( part A - different hooks & holders. Part B - hook clips. ) 👍🏼 no need for the glue.
@@donjohnson5625 The clips fall out as much as the hooks lol
Peg board comes in different size holes and the hooks come in different size diameters...just buy the correlating sizes
Thank you soooo much!! great idea!!
Just tried it! Awesome hack
I want a pegboard now. All my tools currently stay in good old fashioned mess in a closet and it is terrible.
I've ordered some Pegboard Hooks Black Plastic Peg Locks and I look forward to trying them tomorrow when they're delivered. I'll give an update. If they don't work I might try your idea 🤘
So naturally, home depot only had 1/4" hole pegboard and 1/8" accessories. NOT DOING THIS AGAIN! Same wood, no holes was half the cost. So I just market a grid, put up the board and am drilling holes as needed. This is a great idea though
I will never understand why the big box stores don't all carry the hooks to match the board lol. Although I have recently checked out Menards metal peg board and they now carry the proper sized hooks.
Great hack and thank you for sharing!
Thank you!
Vindication. No more scurrying behind the tool and clip.
I had a comment deleted. Maybe because it had a link to a tool selling place in it, but that was just for illustration, not spam honest!
I don't know if these are obtainable in the USA, but in the UK, there are what used to be called Terry clips, and what people now usually just call tool clips. Come in a range of diameters, and designed to hold cylindrical items, so fine for screwdrivers, or anything with a cylindrical handle, but could probably fit things not perfectly cylindrical. The thing is that they come with a hole so you can screw them in (intended for wooden batten, but don't see why they couldn't also be screwed to pegboard).
I hope it's ok to link to the Wikipedia article on Terry clips, just so people can see what I mean:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_clip
( _I have no connection with any seller of tools, etc, except as an occasional customer!_ ).
I don't know what happened to your previous comment. The only thing with the clips is dependent on the peg board you use. The MDF board to thin to put a screw and a heavy tool it will eventually fall out. Again depending on the size tool you use.
I also use the t-clips in my garage and they are great, but all mine are in wood.
Your pegboard looks like 1/4 " holes and your hooks look like 1/8 ". I have some hooks with an extra post that goes in the hole below, they work better, BUT just heard Amazon has some springy ones that spring into two holes side by side, looks like a great idea
its good but why not use screw & nut ?
Do you mean to hold the clips in ? I mean I guess you can. The only issue is the mdf, the screw starts moving around every time you take a tool on and off, then the screw falls out of the mdf.
Thank you for sharing........
Now I have to go back to HomeDepot to buy a hot glue gun......... I just hung up a 4x8 sheet and was wondering if I was going to have enough hooks after having a good portion of them falling off behind my bench......... now ........ I don’t think I’ll lose any at all.
Again, thanks for sharing.
P.S.
In reading the comments...... someone suggested using a staple gun...... another good idea.
Thank you 😊.
Just ‘borrow’ the glue gun! That will be one tool you won’t need to manage or hang. 😉
Good solution in a pinch, but pegboards have purpose made retention clips available. Nearly every kit of hooks you buy today comes with them. And they’re removable. Might be fairly new thing, but I scavenged some hooks from an old house that had to be put in 15-20 years ago and it had the retention clips too. 🤷♂️
Yep , video talks about how bad they suck regardless of the size.
The struggle is real!
IT IS !!!!! Hahahaha 🤣🤣
Better plan the outline good! Cool tip. The plastic clips work well too. If the plastic clips come out, use a heat gun to bend a more extreme angle. You'll need so needle nose pliers to get them out. PS, you're pretty funny.
Try talon hooks
Thanks.I am about to do this.
I use a staple gun to hold the hooks to the peg board. Want to move the hook? The staple pulls out easily.
Fast, simple and CHEAP!
use the black retainer clips. as you get more tools you have to rearrange the board, not unless you got all the tools you'll ever need.
Great hack. Thanks
I never had this problem. My hooks stay hooked.
Well then keep on hooken with your bad self
They make black clips to hold and hook the hangs down. It takes 3 holes wide to attach. The glue defeats the purpose because it's not movable without butchering the board. Here are my 2 hacks. 1st, you can use the hooks that are like an "L" and use those black plastic clips I mentioned. You will need of both. Then take any wood you want that can be customized to create a left to right span. Drill small holes in the back of the wood and use the hooks I mentioned to slide in the holes. You're basically making a custom rack any way you want to and using the 2 "L" hooks to hold it horizontally. You can use your glue trick in the back holes. The 2nd, is to be willing to modify any clips as needed. I cut them and round the edges. I also take off the black tips for some tools with rubber in the hanging holes. The crescent wrenches I have have small holes and they are sticky. I might take a soldering iron to flesh out the rubber or plastic. 4th, I bore out hanging holes on my tools and brushes. Large pop rivets may be possible to attach some components such as magnetic strips and pop rivets can be drilled out easy. Plastic wall hanger inserts are on the list to try also. Everyone remember that peg board is best for living environment that change over time. It's great in my cast above my bench which has shelves about 2 feet above. Those black clips are a must and all metal racks or clips should never be used if you have to lift the tool up to get it in your hand. This wastes space above to make room for lifting the tool out. So peg board in my opinion is best for small areas. If you have ample walk areas, take the peg board to the curb and go with french cleats and make whatever you want to hold anything. Even cabinets. They often use 2 fresh cleats with at the top and one at the bottom. French cleats have a learning curve if you are new. You need to know how to cut them, the size of the cleats for strength, making keys to lock them in place, finding studs our using a plywood backer board and then all of the thousand ways to hang shit with them and build custom mounts. I've been learning for 2 years and keep finding great ideas on UA-cam. There are probably 1000 hours of video ideas. Learn the mounting and spacing first then start cutting with quality plywood and run each one though the table saw to cut an 8th off the pointy tips. They love to splinter.do a nice job and when mounting, keep screws flush and I use a forstner bit or a counter sink bit. Drill pilot holes. When mounting, start at the bottom and use a long straight spacing strip and the cleats above. Get the bottom one perfectly level. Use several methods to accomplish that such as measuring from the floor, a good level that's true. I flip mine sideways and up and down to confirm level or you can use a digital level or laser line machine.dont forget to use your good old eye to confirm level. The bottom cleat gets all the attention and the true spacer strip carries your hard work home. Hope this helps someone.
What about when you want to rearrange or expand?
Hair dryer or heat gun will remove the hot glue . Then you can rearrange as you like.
Hot glue kid... cheap and easy
Smart ty bro!
I hear you!!! Nothing sets me off in a rage as much as the exploitation of very pricey retainer clips that they do NOT sell separately but force you to buy as a set of hooks. You end up with a surplus of metal hooks and broken retainer clips. I have had enough of this!!! Aaarrrgggghhhh!#$$@!^^*()^%$#@@!!! I am never EVER going to buy another retainer clip. I'm going to throw out my masonite board pegboards, get a sheet of plywood, cut in sections for easy mounting and removing, and make my own pegboard where I will screw/glue/weld those hooks on! Not a single fail again. This boat has sailed.
One thing seems to be wrong on your pegboard. It is sitting up tight against the plywood behind it. You need more clearance. You need to raise it off the wall with some wood strips for a half inch or more clearance. Your hooks may be coming off because they are not able to hang properly with no clearance (air space) behind the pegboard.
The ubiquitous HOT GLUE GUN from scrapbook to pegboards, a master of all fixes. Yes, that is the solution for sure. Interim solution before you get rid of the whole pegboard idea and make your own tool cabinet. My next upgrade.
If you have to change your setup how much of a pain in the ass is it to remove the hook and the glue? If you remove the glue does it leave very noticeable damage or discoloration on the pegboard? I definitely like this idea over the plastic retaining clips, but the reason I ask is because I rent so whenever I leave here I’d have to remove my hooks and try to not leave too much damage behind on the pegboard.
I have used a heat gun to move a couple and it came right off with no real damage. You don't need a lot of glue to hold them in there.
Lay it out hot glue that be-ach
I just zip tie the bottoms
Hey, could you tell me what the tool is called and what it's for that's on the far left of your pegboard? It is black, and has a wire canal top and something on the bottom. I found one of these in my garage and have no idea what it's for.
Thanks.
Welding hammer
Chipping hammer. Used to the chip the slag off steel when cut with a torch or cleaning up finished welds
When the end of civilization finally comes we will need three things to rebuild society. Duct tape, bailing wire and a glue gun.
Do you have the right size hooks for your peg board? Looks like you have harbor freight hooks for 1/8 hole peg board . Your peg board holes look like 1/4 “. What’s your rhyme or reason for your tool order? Good idea though, thanks !
Madd Tools is hooking me up with some 1/4 hooks and I am going to post some info on it soon
Love it
have you tried the cheap hot glue? lol i was thinking the same but i didnt know about the gorilla glue stick reloads lol
The gorilla is still holding today lol , I have not tried the cheaper stuff myself. But I dont see why it would not hold. Its more or less there just to hold them in place
@@screwedandglued you know, I even threw out an old hot glue gun too, totally regretting that now lol thank you!
which side of pegboard faces out
The side with all the holes 😂🤣😂
Seriously though, it doesn't matter unless you have the white/brown face board's. Then use whatever side matches your decor. Same if you use the metal ones.

While those are cool and a great idea. I still prefer the glue. Then the hooks don't move ever ! I noticed in the end his hook came up with the tool. That would drive me nuts 🤣
Genius. Thanks for the tip
