@@McDojoLife I guess one could use compassion to get out of a choke..
I mean you can just ask the guy choking you to “pleas let go”, evoking compassion..
You’d certainly have a better chance breaking a choke that way, than by using aikido 🙈🤣

A couple years ago, I made a video “testing out”Corky’s compassion defense… my students actually stopped beating me up once they realized I was defenseless… out of sheer compassion. So it totally worked!
And then one of Corky’s students saw my video, got mad, and left a strongly worded comment reprimanding me for doubting the power of compassion when being assaulted by multiple opponents. He insisted that Mr. Quackenbush was legit. In all fairness, Mr. Quackenbush’s compassion technique gave me the gift of joy and laughter, so there’s that.
And Rob, your Mario Moreno style mustache RULES! The dude was a legend, and so are you!

I once met an old Vietnam era Marine, and we got to talking and I will never forget what he said to me. He said “hate makes you strong, but love makes you stronger,” although I’m pretty sure that what Quackerson is teaching is NOT what that old Marine meant.
Love the video, editing was on point as always. And the craziest McDojo video I’ve ever seen still has to be the CrossFit self defense video.

I posted this in your shorts. Still relevant.
Corky Quakenbush is an interesting study in how someone can become technically proficient in a set of skills but somehow got sidetracked into some minor aspect of it, then ending up completely derailed and in the weeds. Ueshiba called aikido "the art of love" and Corky here has taken that to its ridiculous extreme.
I'm not going to come out and defend Lenny Sly's aikido as an effective combat skill (it may or may not be, that's a different question), but at least he realizes that an attacker will intend you harm and teaches techniques he believes will protect you from that. There is a series of videos of Lenny and Corky teaching together, where you see a lot more of Corky's lovey-dovey compassion stuff get critiqued harshly by Lenny as only effective with fully cooperative partners.
Leaning in to hug a guy may cause him to let go. But so is taking off your pants or pouring a beer over yourself. It's just not a great way to achieve what you want.

“The biggest weapon of Aikido is the ability to become friends with the man who just tried to kill you”
    -Gozo Shioda
I’m sure the Aikido master Shioda meant something different (probably something about using the enemy’s momentum against them)
This guy took it a little bit too literally

The oldest Aikido book, "Budo Renshuu" (originally published 1930-something), has several defenses versus a standing cross-collar choke. I would have to recheck that section of the book to be certain, but I'm pretty sure Corky didn't try any of them in these clips here.

the love part of aikido which myself see ai in aikido sas love... what i atleast say ... the prinsipel of love is that it helps you relax and helps you move smoother and more correctly and it helps you move in a way that the technique works better .. its not about the opponent its baout yourself... if you are stiff and angry and not undercontrol of youreslf and your mind you will prob make mistakes and putt yourself in danger... the human mind works better in harmony and love and calmness ..so this is where it comes from and in a ggood aikido dojo people work hard on becoming relax and grounded and calm minded to be able to percieve things and attacker and everything clearly.. this is where love helps because it helps us have a more controlled sense of being.

My favorite mcdojo video is when there is the guy who use his voice as a martial arts weapon and claims that his shout could kill someone…. He even did this thing with a bell in a temple where he struck the bell with his voice from across the room. I don’t know how he could fake that so I used to think that was real… until I started training kickboxing and jujitsu.
Complete side note… I didn’t notice the lip thing until you mentioned it in this video. Content of character is intangible, and yours is stellar. Keep keeping the martial arts legit!!

@McDojoLife Corky Quackenbush is on video being confronted by Lenny Sly of more practical (Tenshin) style of Aikido and really pissing him off. It should be still on UA-cam. I believe Corky is actually onto something in terms of kinesthetic awareness and going with the flow, concepts that can be enhanced through his abstract exercises and are universally useful in martial arts. The problem is that he makes his exercises look like practical techniques, which they are not.

It will protect you from a compliant uke or dance partner in your dojo. People seem to forget O-Sensei wasnt always old.

Those were the worst rear neck chokes I've seen. The guys didn't even wrap their elbow bend around the throat to pinch the life out of the target, they merely slapped their forearm in front of the throat, barely holding on with their fingers. Actually those "chokes" were so bad that I am having hard time describing them. There was nothing to defend against. This is just silly :P
Also, I just loved your explanation of the techniques, how to do them properly and how to defend. That is the kind of quality content I come to UA-cam for :)
