Marc with Digital Heat FX is showing you the DigitalHeat FX i550 and Sublimation! If you’ve seen us before you have seen us do White Toner Transfer prints and now we present how to convert it to Sublimation in a minute!
What it looks like when we create White toner Transfers: • White toner transfer p...
How it works is incredibly simple. First pop open the lid to the toner compartment, take out the regular Toners and replace with the Dye Sublimation toners. Close the lid and turn it on to send your design to print!
What happens is that the Dye sublimation inks will print on regular printer paper. Now you can take the printed sublimation design and Heat press it to your garment or item. What is happening on a microscopic level is that the Dye is released as vapor from the paper and pressed onto the item you are applying the heat to.
That means no liquid inks and no special paper needed!
We used a Sport-Tek ST352 from Sanmar. It’s a 100% polyester white basketball shirt for this transfer. Here we have a reversed stock design with our i550 Logo to be able to apply the design right ways onto the shirt.
This process is really a fast print. We don’t have to wait for the print head to go back and forth like you would with a traditional inkjet printer and since you are working with dry ink, you do not have to wait for the ink to dry!
We Are using a few things to create this transfer. Have the printed paper, the shirt or item you are applying it to, extra sheet of blank paper (for “Blowout” to prevent sublimation from getting on Heat press) and some heat transfer tape. We sometimes use Teflon instead but do whatever is most comfortable to you.
We are using the Hotronix Fusion in this demonstration. Learn more about the Professional Package here: • Fusion Heat Press Prof...
After putting the shirt on the press and tape the design in place. Your Blowout sheet goes on top and the pressure can be set to low for 60 seconds. Then toss blowout sheet and remove transfer to cool. As soon as it is room temperature you may remove the transfer. All done!
You can see the remainder of toner on the pressed paper but the vibrancy has now transferred to the garment! This is great for moisture wicking light polyester garments. Think of the fishing, sport shirts, anything recreational where you want to keep the feel of the garment thin and breathable.

Any of the DigitalHeat FX printers will allow you to make a full color transfer that will go onto light or dark fabrics in cotton or poly.
