Haven't watched it yet, but glad Critters is getting the respect it deserves. I knew the producer growing up. He had the bounty hunter gun propped up in the hallway. I even had an actual theater poster he gave me on my bedroom wall for years. I think I still have it.

Sometimes I'm like: oh yeah, Critters, this is one everyone will know, Critters was such a big part of my childhood! Then folks are like: YOU'RE MAKING THIS MOVIE UP and I feel so sad and alone. EXCEPT FOR SCAREDY MATT.
Critters is an essential part of the monster puppet genre if you were a kid in the 1980s, along with Ghoulies, and Gremlins, and, if you were unlucky, Hobgoblins.
I remember being a kid back in the 80s at on of those neighborhood parties where the parents are all upstairs while the kids are down stairs. We ended up watching Critters and Monster Squad on the Canadian version of HBO. Neglectful parenting was the best part of the 80s.
Maybe he invented the movie himself just to mess with you. I certainly didn't just witness him talk about it, and I don't believe anyone else did, either.

I've never seen of the critters movies, but the movie posters deeply affected me when I was a kid. My grandmother had these little green bushes outside her house that my brother and I ended up calling 'critters' after the movie.
This movie was played many, many times in our household. I feel like the 80s really had a handle on things like this; serious enough to be compelling without trying to be something it's not. Thanks for a great trip down memory lane.
I saw bits and pieces of this movie (or perhaps one of the sequels) on television a long time ago, back when I was a little kid. I didn't know the name of it, and so whenever I tried asking others about it and described it as "that scary movie with the funny little monsters that eat and break everything", they'd always just assume I was talking about Gremlins. Over time, I started to wonder if it was a fever dream or something since only I seemed to have seen it. Wasn't until years later, when I got on the internet as a teenager looking for cool horror content (like this delightful gem of a channel), that I found out the title of the movie. Drove me bonkers for the longest time, it did.
Ah Critters and Munchies. I remember seeing them around the same time so they are bound in my memory for all time together. Munchies was the first DVD I ever rented on Netflix. But I've probably seen Critters more, Critters 2: The Main Course even more. I'm putting Critters in my Ravenloft campaign. Thanks for reminding me about Critters!

Terrifying! A giant Critters poster on the wall, next to stuff like Monster Squad; The Fly; Creature, etc It was the first movie I hid under our coffee table to avoid some of the scarier parts. I watched it in my late 20s and was squealing with laughter.
Matt, thank you for introducing me to the concept of “wet” puppets. I’ve been enjoying this movie for 35 years and had no idea how wet the Chiodo brothers work was! Bravo, my dude.
Critters seriously freaked me out when I was little. Tiny murder balls which could be hiding in any dark corner had my hyperactive imagination running wild. They're still the things my mind conjures up to make me scared of the dark. AND NOW I FIND OUT THERE'S ALIEN BOUNTY HUNTERS AND SPACE PRISONS IN THIS MOVIE. Way to go, child me. As I had never seen this movie before and so was unaware they were called "Crites" - which is incredibly similar to my nickname (based on my last name). It was especially bizarre because I was just promoting the channel to some friends last night and talking about your love of wet puppets. So it was almost like you were acknowledging that in your intro. What a hilarious series of coincidences!
I remember seeing this movie when I was a very very young child. Back when Blockbuster was in business my sister convinced my parents to rent this because she saw the poster of it in the first live action TMNT film.
The best part about that is that Raph actually comments on the movie as he walks out of the theatre. He stops and turns to the poster and says “where do they come up with this stuff?!”
