- Jump Start Motorbike Trick, What a Dead Motorcycle Battery Sounds Like
Thought it was going to be a normal day, walking out to my motorcycle to find the lights still on and the battery was dead. Dead battery sound like a grinding jack hammer. I put a battery extension line to under my 2 up seat in case I needed to charge the battery. Well it turns out I can also use it to jump start the motorcycle.

Why dont you just push start it. Just simply put it on the 2nd gear, hold on the clutch and then push the bike and if you got a certain speed like 10 to 15 kph, release the clutch and the motor should run like that simply.
I have a Hayabusa, I don’t know how much they vary from a 600 or whatever but second gear never worked for me, first gear is what it took to really crank it over fast like a battery would. Works every time, second gear never worked for me.
You just need to be rolling out enough speed to crank the engine over
Thank you so much, the same sound scared me on my bike, battery was at 12.1volts ... but charging it right now!
ugh this is me rn...finally a sunny day to ride, bike has been stored for a month and what do you know DEAD BATTERY :( nothing but clicks.
Yep....
Buy a plug in quick start battery charger. Charges up quick.
You should carry a portable jumpstarter, I bought a battery pack/jump starter that is supposed to work on cars, but I bought it with the sole purpose of using it on my motorcycle. The one I have is a BlueCell from Napa Auto Parts, and so far i have jump started my bike within seconds from connecting the wires and the battery doesnt seem to go down, which is always good.
Nice1..
I still don't know where to put the hot cable so this helped me 0
Never start a car when charging a bike battery 😂😂😂
thanks i will remember that now.
Hey man. I just wanted to say thanks for all thw great videos. I just got my first ninja 300 yesterday. Your tips and videos have helped a lot. Thanks man!
Dude, why didn't you just get your bike rolling and pop the clutch in 2nd gear???
jer ikeda cant put it in second unless its moving a decent speed
Stickity Man You actually can you just roll the bike while you pop it into second
I tried this with mine.wouldnt start
dinkles You need enough speed when when second gear and make sure you pop the clutch instead of easing it and make sure your back wheel isn’t locking up when you pop the clutch put your weight towards the rear wheel I’ve never popped started my cbr but I would assume it would work like any other bike but I’ll definitely try it.
@@LikedGecko315 I tried you can hear a faint turn over noise but then I run out of puff. More tests needed when I can travel
So you dont have to take your seat off?
dude your not suppose to start the car otherwise you could fry your bikes electronics. you have to leave the car off because that prevents your bike from getting damaged, with the car off, you will have plenty of power from a car battery to start the much smaller motorcycle battery
Ive read that jumping a bike from a running car is a no no. At least for a Ural.
You are making the common mistake of trying to start the motor immediately after connection of the jumper cables. Jumper cables do not start the motor, they just charge up your battery. Notice how little surface area there is on the teeth of the jumper clips and how much surface area there is on the actual battery cables? You need to start the running car to charge the system with ~14 volts instead of
Jim Fieser I was going to say this. It doesn't matter how good your jumper cables are if the battery isn't charged, unless you do something extreme like jumping the starter directly.
That is not correct sir. When you use jumper cables the "dead" motorcycle gets the power from the cars battery or whatever you use as a power supply. When the motorcycle starts it will begin charging its own battery right away and everything is good. :)
The important thing here is to put the negativ cable somewhere on the metal frame and not on the discharged battery.
pollepost you can also hook up an external battery, such as a car battery, not even connected to a car, it’s just an external source of power. That’s all.
you were right. I had to let it sit for a few minutes before starting. It worked.
To all that see this there is a little information symbol when a add pops up. It’s hard to see but it’s bottom left. Click that and skip the add.
jump to the foot rest???? just remember it 100 amps plus going through all the bushes and bearings to the swing arm then the engine mounts etc always get as close to the battery as possible
Where did u get the battery extension cables?
Provide a link please
Even Kawasaki recommends the footpeg for the negative cable.
Quote from the owners' manual:
"connect another jumper cable from the negative terminal of the booster battery to your motorcycle passenger footpeg or other unpainted metal surface...."
Shes alive😂🤟
My bike just made that noise I was so scared. Thank you!
My R6 was working fine this weekend and today I try to go for a ride and the bike wouldn't start. Dash lights came on it was in neutral I attempt to start it and nothing 😤 cant be anything big
Ever fix this? I have a R6 and this is happening to me but I don't think it's the battery cause it doesn't make that loud noise and it tries to turn over before making a similar noise
Your not an idiot, you just learned something new we all didn't know could work. I appreciate this video indeed.
I feel better now. My bike was making a similar sound and I was worried it was the starter. When the battery on my last bike died it just did nothing, not scream at me.
I'll try this
I was recently in the same predicament with my Suzuki SV 650. I did have some extender cables that I use for a trickle charger when my bike is parked for longer than a month. I tried connecting the battery pack to those extender cables and I could not get a jumpstart. I ended up having to remove high side panels and seat to get to the battery itself and connect from there and I was able to get a jumpstart. So my question is About the extender cable that you’ve used. I clicked on your link and it brought me to the Amazon site but it just gave me a list of cables. I was wondering what cable size you used 4AWG or 8AWG. The jumper cables from the battery pack uses 8AWG. Maybe I should use the 8AWG?
feeling like an idiot, I had ro use a screw driver to extend the terminal for the cable clamp to fit. Absolutely no room for cable clamp to fit terminals. Immediately hung a separate pos line like this.
I have my battery tender hook to battery that I can plug into. But since I'm in a temporary place.. all my stuff is packed in storage so don't have battery tender cables.. ugh
Should of run an jumped into gear never fails
Good job bro
All that worked saved you from having to take a seat off, which is normally one bolt.... I wouldn't say this is worth the time honestly
NEVER jump motorcycle with car running. You can fry entire electrical system on bike.
That’s what I thought 120 amps.
Ill try it out
Do you not know how to push start your bike bro , I’ve been stranded with a dead
Battery more than once and just push started my bike no issues
Why not just remove the seat? I get the convenience, but after so many failed attempts?
My bike only starts with cables connected, once I turn the bike off I can't turn it back on without the cables attached,it's a 2018 r3.. What do you think is the problem????
sir snow it’s time to change the battery , I imagine you already solved that out by now
@@robertomarrero7086 haha yeah I bought a new battery and it started right up.. Ill be keeping it on a tender for the months I don't ride
Do I still need the mod if I don't have non-standard fancy green lights that kill my battery?
I know it was the first thing that worked but the peg has a greased pin connecting it so it’s potentially a pretty poor ground.
Never supposed to try to jump motorcycle with a car when the car is running
Why is that?
Trying to see if my jump box will jump motorcycle without messes it up. I'm sure cause u can jump motorcycle with car
Yeah that is a really Dead battery ....but a less dead one might crank slow too slow to start ........
Same right now loo
Whatever
I have never understand why going to all this trouble when you can just puso your bike to start it
Once again, bro. Another timely video. This video represents my 4elationship with my shitty Ninja 250.
Ptsd from the sound
Motorcycles have staters to charge the battery while running. Those little jumper packs supply 12v for 1sec in order to turn the starter, they do nothing to charge the battery. If it's flat dead, it just takes time to recharge, if it's just dead enough to not start, you should also learn how to running jump your bike.
I rode my bike the other day which was a littled weird on the road. It turned off on its own a few times when I came to a stop. But I had no problem to restart it right away. The same day I made it back home from work without any issue. I didn't touch it until the day after. I couldn't start my bike. It almost makes the same noise as the video. I charged the battery then read it about 13.6-14.9 volt. Yet, the bike still has the same issue. The battery is actually only 1 year old. Also I forgot to mention, my headlight gives no light, but other lights are all on. Anyone has any clue what the problem might be? Please help me. Thank you!
Maybe the headlight broke down? And it could be an issue with the dynamo maybe? I've had a Yamaha Virago VX 535, had lots of troubles with starting up. It was unreliable. The dynamo had its influence on the battery so it died most of the time. Had the dynamo replaced, battery too and it worked fine again.
Same,, did u fix it??
Dude, the battery is a bitch in my Yamaha roadstar, literally wires everywhere.
Canada hey.
Why wouldnt you just push start it?
Emil Havn This. I’ve done it 20+ times with essentially the same bike.
Emil Havn I assume he wasn't near a hill
nuget102 I’ve never needed one. Just use second gear instead of 1st gear and it’s easy.
nuget102 its a 300, don't need no hill.
It might be because the battery was so dead the injectors or fuel pump didn't (assuming its FI, bjt probably carbed)
Don't need a hill...
Do not start a car when your trying to jump start a bike!!!!
My last video i upload. was basically the same thing. Check it out .. i pop started it down a hill and where the free stickers at tho
I just never bolt in my seat. Safety comes second, but only to convenience!
Biker life bro
First three minutes are useless.
Lmao what a dud video
Agreed and Then tryna advertise that portable tender like it worked for him this video is stupid and makes no sense
