Well done Howard i was your 57th Subcriber on your first day on You tube. And i must say for a guy that watches every single video That one was one of your best by far. It had everything.
"It won't be a show car, but it'll probably turn into one" - classic Astillism, love it. Great tip about paint stripper on deadener, never considered it or thought it would even work. Really enjoying the build Howard.
Great episode Howard. I’ve got to compliment Darren on the consistency of those welds along that long seam. A true craftsman who takes pride in his work.
Darren is a man of a few words but his skills certainly speak loader than words!. Moving along nicely Howard, very interesting and thanks for sharing your talents along with Louise with the editing. Bill Mc
I think thats a great idea welding up that seam along the quarter panel where they love to rust! Ford used that Bronze fill for many years, because ive been doing body work on my project 89 model xf ute, and on the rear quarters where the tail light panels are spot welded on, theres a heap of that molten bronze in there.
Enjoyed Another awesome episode, glad your back on the panelvan, got great memories from my XC Panelvan back in the day, and it wasn't that 😮😂 have a great weekend Cheers 🍻 KC 🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🤝🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🍻🍻👍🌨🏔🌨🏔
Hey Howard loving the build 👌 I use oxy tech easy phos on bare metal works a treat stops surface rust and also paint adhesive Also ultra grime cloth wipes for clean up (total tools) are awesome 👍
Mr Howard, i wonder if youll ever add some blooper reels. Would love to see snippets of you swearing and throwing things accross the room, as sometimes happens in some restos haha love your work
Top notch as always. I always look forward to learning something from your videos . On my current build I find myself thinking would Howard be happy with that? So thankyou
Mate, I normally take your recommendations as the gold standard but I'm not sure with this one. Perfect outcome with the bolts and hinges but I find it much, much easier to blast or use ultrasonic cleaning. I have a large 450 litre blast cabinet and then a regular style Chinese ultrasonic tank. Blasting is very fast and clean. Its about 1m x 0.5m so you can fit pretty big bits into it. With the cleaner you just put your small bits into a plastic jar with EvapoRust or similar and let it float in clean water ... switch on , do something else and come back to rust free bolts. Either way a wipe down with metho water and you're ready to paint. So easy and all in you'd still be under a couple of grand. Worth a thought? Thanks again for the great videos.
Hi Mick, there are many different methods, I have a small blaster and have used many different products. Tumblers work good as well. I’m just showing what I’m doing at the moment and what can be done at home.
Gday Howard, your videos have driven me to drag my pine n lime xc van project out for some long awaited attention. Great idea with the 1/4 seam weld. Would silicon/bronze rods with a tig be a reasonable choice for filling the seam? I only ask since I lack experience welding thin car panels and don’t want to risk using too much heat. The mig welding has come up looking great and i’m still considering it. Thanks for these videos, its really great to see
Great Howard, thanks for that. Really appreciate you showing the vid. I'm almost at the same stage with my project. How's the lawn going, time for an update?
Howard do remember custom HG one tonner getting around in the early nineties? I am pretty sure it made it to summernats and I'm pretty sure it was orange.
Few years ago I bare metaled cleaned the whole underside of my EH sedan i just went hard with cup brush or twist knot wheels on a grinder’s I went through three 50 dollar grinders and was covered in black crap every day i finished and my girlfriend wouldn’t come near me until two hours in the shower was fun i eventually got it near perfectly clean 😂😂😂..
Morning , another great video. A question off the topic. I don’t have room for a full size spray booth , what would your suggestion be to epoxy panels etc while waiting for repairs. It’s not really recommended to spray in the open is it. Thanks.
Your obviously redoing your van Magnum force. What are you hoping to improve on your original car? Are you making this van to keep as a forever van or a project van that you’ll sell in a time frame? Or is this van a project car to figure out what holes there are in the market for you to make panel’s and bits available for your business??
A great UA-cam channel is worth 10times a decent TV show👍👍👍
Wow, thanks!
Looking great Howard, I heard the little comment about it not being a show car, you won't be able to help yourself, it'll be in the Van nationals 😊
Very true
The seam between the roof and tub is way better than factory. I'm loving this build!
Thanks mate
Fantastic content Howard thankyou..
The body line looks heaps better mate 👌
Thanks 👍

Thanks for the feed back, certainly helps with out development
These videos are brilliant and so relevant to my Xb ute I’m just starting. Waiting patiently for the door frame drip rail episode.
Coming soon.
Great show to watch. Glad to see you working on the panel van again
More to come!

Cheers Peter, yeah found out by accident. works really good.

Yeah he goes alright.😉
Another great video Howard and Darren. Thank you for the efforts, and no doubt Louise for the editing!

Right on
When a "Plan" comes together 😉
Paint off so easy
Yeah, was mint
It’s looking good Howard.
Certainly going to be a great car with pretty much everything being touched. I enjoy watching your work.
That's the plan!
attention to detail and eliminating the hidden rust areas is always time consuming, do it once do it right. always great watching these vids.
Thanks mate, appreciate your support
Never thought of using paint stripper for underbody coatings removal. Great thinking.
Cheers mate
Great episode, and thanks for the tip on the under body deadener
Happy to help!
Nice Job as always Howard!
Thanks mate
Great Show as per usual. Thanks Howard
Thanks for listening
This show was a beauty, Howard. Thanks! Darren is a champion, too.

Good video Howard
Cheers
Great video again Howard thanks for uploading
Glad you enjoyed it
Coming along nicely Howard, love to see more van work 👍
Working on it!
Great video Howard.
Those Strip disc are much cheaper on ebay compared to Bunnings.
Yeah, I like the flexovit ones.
Mr Howard, i wonder if youll ever add some blooper reels. Would love to see snippets of you swearing and throwing things accross the room, as sometimes happens in some restos haha love your work
It doesn’t happen very often and I certainly don’t throw anything because you only have to go and pick it up again.
im going to make of of those chisels , great idea
Have fun!
Good to watch
Thanks Sam
try vinegar for less aggressive rust removal or hydrochloric acid for quick aggressive removal
Yeah I have done both, the parts flash rust real quick when they come out of the vinegar, hydrochloric is nasty stuff.
Top notch as always. I always look forward to learning something from your videos . On my current build I find myself thinking would Howard be happy with that? So thankyou
Cheers mate, I used to say the same thing but would my Dad be happy with that.
never going to be an issue in my lifetime lol said that a few times on my xy build i'm doing now
Yeah so true

Great show again. I've used the same paint stripper and it can be a bit brutal bloody good stuff though
Yeah loves bare skin.😂😂
@@AstillDesign An interesting burning feeling l recon ha ha.
Hi Howard, did you just bend those chisels with the oxy torch? Keen to make some.
Yes mate that’s correct
Van is looking great brother👊👍👌💪
Thanks 👍

I would be concerned about the amount of heat using tig. I have dabbled with bronze with limited success.
@@AstillDesignOk thanks, ill prob stick with the mig then
Great Howard, thanks for that. Really appreciate you showing the vid. I'm almost at the same stage with my project.
How's the lawn going, time for an update?
All good! Lawns are hanging in pretty good.
Howard do remember custom HG one tonner getting around in the early nineties? I am pretty sure it made it to summernats and I'm pretty sure it was orange.
So many years, so many cars!!
Hey Howard, have you got a reskinning air tool , if not look them up they make the reskin job so much easier and neater.
Hi, no I don’t have one.
I’ve got a lot of tools but never enough
Few years ago I bare metaled cleaned the whole underside of my EH sedan i just went hard with cup brush or twist knot wheels on a grinder’s I went through three 50 dollar grinders and was covered in black crap every day i finished and my girlfriend wouldn’t come near me until two hours in the shower was fun i eventually got it near perfectly clean 😂😂😂..
Yeah did that in the 80’s
looks much better without the side windows
Sure does

A lot of panel shops do epoxy in the workshop. It’s more a safety issue
Great episode, any chance of the van being at Summernats this year?
Yes mate, on the PPG stand in primer
Hi Howard just wondering where we buy the bonderite deoxidine, looks like a great product...thanks
PPG distributors www.ppgrefinish.com.au/Distributors/Australia.html

I think you’re over thinking it.
Just building a chrome bumper car to drive to events and relive our early years.
Try some oven cleaner
Yeah that might work
So what if it's not a show car. Just get it back on the road and enjoy driving it.
All in good time
