    I have to say this is a GREAT video. Having to change my alternator in my 2007 Toyota Tacoma had me very worried. I watched your video a couple of times and felt I could do it. You provided the size sockets to allow us to save time. Thank you so much for the video.

    Thanks for the video! It was right to the point and like how you kept mentioning the bolt sizes. I've done a lot of things to my Tacoma, but for some reason I always thought the alternator would be a difficult job, however you made it look very easy. Thanks

    Great video, helped me change my dead alternator in a couple hours right in the driveway. As said below, getting the old alternator out was the hardest part. But after figuring out how to get it out, the new one slid right in.

    Thanks very much for the informative video. With the help of a gentleman (Thad) and his son (Gabe) and your video I was able to get this done 200 miles from home in an O'Reilly's parking lot. Note: the alternator on my '04 was much more accessible and easy to change out. Without help, I would have struggled with this one. Thanks again.

    Just wanted to say "Thanks!" for all your Tacoma vids! Relatively easy, even for me! I've been wrenching for about 20 years and have learned that however the long the "internet" tells me a job will take (taking my time and getting drunk while doing so, of course), it will take me 2-3 times that long while staying sober! 🤣 This job though? Spot on! 👍

    Thank you so much. I've watched this video twice and also along changing out my alternator for my 08 tacoma pre runner. This was very helpful. The only issue I had was getting the alternator out and new one back in. Also, couldn't get a less than 1/4 inch drill bit/Allen wrench in tension hole. I got it in but it didn't loosen the belt. So what I did, I just turned counter clockwise and held the ratchet while removing the belt off the alternator. The diagram you added was very helpful because the belt slipped off the water pump pulley. (Good thing I double checked before starting the Tacoma up).
    I successfully changed the alternator without going through the wheel well. Only thing, the top bolt was hard to screw back in. I got it in almost all the way and alternator is tight just a bit of space where the washer spins a little. But the alternator is secure.
    That breaker bar tip worked out great for unscrewing the bottom bolt which was a bit seized.
    Thanks again. This gave me confidence to work on my truck and saved me over $200!

    Thanks for the helpful video. My 16-year-old son and I were able to fix his Tacoma in a couple of hours. Our truck has 158000 on it. It started making a strange sound a couple of days ago and died today. Luckily, school is only a couple of miles home. He was able to make it home on a jump start. We spend a couple of hours in the garage this Tuesday night and he ready for school tomorrow. I also took mine in from the wheel well.

I think things change in different model years... my alternator would not come out of the top, but it came out by taking it through the wheel well under the battery tray very easily. I'm back in business!

      @Awharry36. On this 2007 I'm working on, I had to slide the alternator towards the radiator in order to slip it up away from the engine. I know this one I'm removing is the 130 amp alternator. The one in this video could be a 100 amp alternator, meaning it could be a tad smaller in diameter... Just sayin......

    Completed the replacement this last weekend. Would have taken less than two hours except for a few unforeseen issues. Removing tension from the serpentine belt worked best for me with help. I had a heck of a time trying to see the hole for a pin to hold back the tension roller. I placed myself under the truck (no jacking) and had enough access to pry the tension roller back while my son removed the belt from the alternator. My second challenge was physically removing the old alternator. I was finally able to clear the stuff that couldn’t be removed or moved by ensuring the alternator was oriented to where the connectors were in the twelve o’clock position and the alternator was facing forward and tilted upward(front up back down). Video made it look easier than it was, but it did come out. My biggest problem had to do with the alternator itself. Carefully check the bottom nut plate. Apparently mine wasn’t pressed in and fell out while I was installing the new alternator. After a few attempts to install the bottom bolt I figured out that the nut was missing. I pulled it back out (new alternator went in and came back out without too much effort) to discover a missing nut. Thought the alternator was shipped that way so I dremmeled out the nut from the old alternator and tried to press it in to the new alternator. That didn’t go so well. Just happened to look under the truck and sure enough I found the new pressed nut.. If I had checked it before trying to install it would have been a fairly slick job. Reinstalling the serpentine belt worked best for me the same way I released it. Overall the video was extremely helpful particularly the way tool dimensions were stated for each task. Hope this helps any of you part time DIYers.

    Thanks for the video. This was very helpful. However, I had to pull the alternator from the sidewall. I could not get it out from above no matter which way I turned it or flipped it.. The sidewall was easy and only required 3 push screws to be removed. I would have had more room with the tire turned outward but at that point the car was immobile. Also, use caution when reinstalling the belt. Mine was off a little bit somewhere and ended up snagging something and eating itself. So another $35 and my alternator was fixed! Thanks again!

    • @UnkleAL1962

      thank you Jim V!! I also could not get mine out from above but it came right out on my 2005 the way you described perfectly. I always read the comments and found yours, and it saved me. ALSO - your tip on the belt saved me, I had it on the alternator just fine, but my final check of it all indicated it was misaligned over the fan pulley so you saved me my belt too. Cheers from upstate NY

    Seems like it is multiple times easier than changing it out on my 2011 V6 Camry. It required draining the cooling system, removing the entire front end; and removing passenger side front tire and an access panel to wiggle one hand in to remove and install fasteners.

    gr8 vid! Will these steps be the same for a 3rd gen 2017 Tacoma? Any differences I should be aware of before hand?

      I just watched it bro, thanks for the shout out! I also just subbed to you. That job looked like a pain but it was very clever to just have everything lose enough to maneuver to that sensor!

    Don't have to remove the skid plate to get to the tensioner you can get to it with a long ratchet or breaker bar from the top

  • @scorporsupremacy7948

    I noticed you seem to have installed a high output alternator. Did you have to change your belt size to accommodate the smaller pulley on the alternator for the 2005 Tacoma ?

    • @KFloTacoma
      @KFloTacoma  6 років тому +1

      No. The current tensioner had enough of a swing to accomodate

    Got all the way to the 14mm securing the alternator. Was able to break the top 14mm loose but cant get the lower. Any tips? Already hit it with PB blaster and tried multiple angles but it requires an extended socket and I'm doing my best not to strip it

    • @KFloTacoma
      @KFloTacoma  3 роки тому +1

      I would advise a socket extension and a 6 point socket so that it doesnt round the bolt head. As you see from the vid, I did use a pipe on the socket wrench to help break that bolt loose. You can do the same.

    Is there a trick to popping the plastic cover off of the negative wire so I can unbolt it from the alternator

    • @KFloTacoma
      @KFloTacoma  3 роки тому +1

      No real trick. It's just a matter of getting under that rubber piece and separating it

    hello sir, my battery lights are on my dash board for the first time on my 2006 Tacoma. I have a confident to do it myself instead of taking it to the shop and they charge too much.i also did a test that I took off my negative cable from the battery while engine is running and the engine just went off . please advise

    • @KFloTacoma
      @KFloTacoma  4 роки тому

      I would recommend checking the individual wires on the cable from the positive side. There may be a wire that got disconnected or worn out that may cause the same battery light to go on.

    Did you original Toyota alternator. I used a after market and the engine is shaking and I hear squeaking on the pulleys. Thanks

      @KFloTacoma  Рік тому

      I'm using aftermarket, you may have other issue if you have those symptoms. I would recommend watching my belt and pulley video so that you can inspect your pulleys

    Got a question.
    The plastic cover on the black wire, what’s the trick to getting that off?
    Does it just pull off by hand, or do you need to pry with a screwdriver or something?
    Mine is being stubborn.
    Thanks.

    • @KFloTacoma
      @KFloTacoma  Рік тому

      It's basically just a stiff rubber sleeve, maybe use a hair dryer to make that a bit softer and just get under it with a small screw driver to pry it up

    Excellent video. How long did it take, top to bottom? 1 hour?

    • @KFloTacoma
      @KFloTacoma  5 років тому +1

      It took me a little bit longer because i was filming. If I wasn't then it would probably be around 1.5 hours.

    my 06 tacoma makes a vibrating noise when i’m stopped .. what you think could be the cause ?

    • @KFloTacoma
      @KFloTacoma  5 років тому

      Does it sound like a rhythmic screeching? It can be the idler pulleys if you only hear the vibrations at idle.
