Excellent choice with the Reaper HP50 with the peavey 3120. Together they have a real nice width cut, just not much out there that can do the same and not be muddy. With this amp the shiffield just puts out too much hollow resonances that sound like your listening through a sea shell.
Sheffields seem to be perfect for classic Black Metal or Thrash. I kept them in one of my 6505 cabs because of the old school scooped, nasty sound and my faves Cavalera always use them live. The Sheffields sounded fantastic when they played Morbid Visions and Bestial Devastation live. In the other 6505 cab I installed two Greenbacks in the upper position and two V30s down like a Friedman 4x12. This sounds amazing like Cannibal Corpse latest records!
Excellent! I 'm also looking for some different speakers. I'm running a the 4x12 Rectifier cab with V30's. I've seen most of the comparison videos and have narrowed my choice to Warehouse Reapers. Research done. I'm going with the Reapers.
Excellent choice! My Peavey 3120 sounds absolutely amazing through this cab now. Maybe because it's new, but I'm enjoying the tone of this combo over my Dual Rectifier head/cab.
The peavey speakers were always the weakest point of the peavey amps. When I started playing the setup everyone was using was a 5150 running into a marshall 1960a cab. WGS wasn't around yet and I think eminence was just doing oem speakers for different companies. It was just more cost efficient to buy the 1960 cab than to buy the peavey cab then gut it and install celestions. Really good cabs though. These days you can save a ton of money buying an older used cab and installing whatever flavor of WGS or eminence you like.
Keep in mind how loud Eddie pushed the 5150 and listen to these Sheffields at that level...I dont know anyone that ever pushed them to thst level...but I dig thd Sheffields...

the warehouse speaker has very weird upper midrange, I hear huge bump in a 4k range. I would combine and record them together.
Awesome stuff

Right on man, thanks for commenting.
black widows and scorpions disagree
I think the Sheffields have that nasty 90s Death/ Black Metal tone. For this kinda sound I'ld def keep them.

Hard choice
Think the Reaper sounds more grindy and in your face. Honestly think sounds great.
I agree. I like the new speakers!
These WGS speaker demos on UA-cam are not kind to my wallet.
Yeah, they're not cheap.
