  • This video shows two ways to teach drop it along with an emergency way to get something out of a dogs mouth. Another way that is missing here is a toy trade technique. It is not my favorite so it isn't included, but there are lots of videos on that from other trainers. I wanted to do a thorough video on the two ways I like to teach drop it to dogs without any serious behavioral issues.

our pup chokes up on the toy, going for our hands, and often ends up biting us in the process. are there any tips for the first method since we can't hold the toy still? or should we stick to the treat method?

As dogs get older or just might really struggle with that we use ecollar training to help with that. I even have a puppy video on that with a 16 week old.

Jane Doe if you get the right brand and use it correctly it doesn’t actually shock or hurt the dog. It’s just an uncomfortable sensation. Like a vibration. Not all brands are good and some are cruel and do hurt the dog which is why it’s very important to research but not all brands! You should be able to use it on yourselves. I don’t use them but have tried one on myself and it didn’t hurt.
