Wow! That was surreal…. I can’t thank you enough Jonny. You’re as nice in person as you seem on your videos. Darren and Matt were great as well. Dad is still motivated in getting Bluebell back on the road. Definitely a high point in our family history. 😊
it warms the heart knowing this is kept in the family and i do hope it's brought back to road-ready condition. as an american brought up on muscle cars i didn't then have much use for cars such as this but it has undeniable charm and history. thank you for sharing some family history with us!
Snowhite, she was my first car. 1985 2CV. So many good memories. Sold it in 91 (and regretted) with 120k plus. So satisfying it was to hear the sound of Bluebell engine breathing again. You'll never walk alone with a car like this.
That is a great idea. I haven't watched all of the barn find vids but i usually feel a little bit downcast at the end as we never know if the cars do live again or if they are just pushed back into the garage/barn, never to see daylight again.
It would be great, however restorations can take years, especially with rare cars with even rarer parts, some you cannot even get third party made parts and you hope to find a scrap car somewhere in the world to get it, thankfully there is some companies now that could make you a part with latest tech but you still need the exact dimensions, and if you don't have the part getting those could take some doing.
Love the little 2CV. Johnny needs to find a mobile detailing friend to come on these. A proper clean could be all the inspiration needed to get the owners of some of these vehicles to move forward with keeping them on the road. Of course hearing them run again helps, but seeing the years peeled back with a proper detail would certainly inspire them to go further. Thanks Johnny, always a fun day out with you in a barn.
I was thinking the same when I watched the Rover SDI barn find recently. I’d love to see some sympathetic paint correction on these cars. Anyway, as ever, a great video.
Wow. What a find. I was a Citroen Parts Dealer in the 80's and I still remember practically every part on this car. Sold loads of accessories that people bought for this car. Lots of striped roof canvas. You could tell a 2CV6 owner a mile off. Teacher, nurse, beard, small plats cheese cloth dresses wooly paterned. jumpers, woolly hat, they handled like a jelly on springs. The seats were like loungers, really soft and uncar like. Again, what a find. 😀
Omg, I have one identical to this that I bought over 20 years ago and left it under a car cover on my dad's driveway. Same year, same colour, same interior. Put new tyres on it a couple of years ago to move it for restoration but it never happened. Seeing this has spured me on to make 2023 the year my 2cv hits the road again. Thanks for posting this video.
In the mid 80s I was running a horrible mint green Mk 3 Capri 2.0 auto. Most days on the way home from work I would come up behind a 2cv lumbering up a fairly steep uphill single carriageway rural road, I would usually slip past with a cheeky overtake just before the crest of the hill and leave the poor struggling 2CV in a trail of dust. One winter day snow had come down heavily over night. Having had a sketchy drive into work the firm shut up early so we could get home in day light. I approached the hill with much trepidation in the tail happy auto Capri !! Just near the top and im struggling for grip I hear the roar of the 2Cvs twin cylinders the skinny tyres cutting through the snow and the madly grinning arm waving driver flies past me beeping his horn in triumph !! he left me for snow dust that day, he was one happy 2Cv owner that day.
The smile on the sons face whilst sitting in car for first time in yrs was brilliant to capture . Had me smiling all the way through this video , well done all on getting her started .
I worked on these for about 3 years before I went to college as a mature student. They are remarkable cars! After working for years on modern cars, then restoring vintage and classics, I loved their simplicity. I did quite a few chassis replacements under warranty, and I would start those at 9am Monday morning and finish at 1pm Wednesday, single handed, while the other mechanic did all my MOTs and Citroen BX and AX work for those 3 days. I loved it!
Amazing barn find again Johnny. My parents had three of these while I was growing up at school in the 80's. I did try to learn to drive in one, but me and my dad got the hump with each other. But to my reflective shame, I did crash my mum's Charleston into a tree, rip the roof off my dads Special ( because of unclipped roof ) down a dual carriageway, and my Dad's Special caught fire on the M1 at Hendon ( where while listening to the eye in the sky radio report, my Mum said " That is your Dad" ) and she was right... Amazing cars, amazing memories, amazing fun....and me and the Mrs want a 2cv van to tinker round Cornwall. I must admit I did cry just a bit, because my Mum has passed away, and I know she would of cheered when this Bluebell started again. She did love the 2cv.
I could hear Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin singing 'Je t'aime' as you were lubing the cylinders, gently stroking the jumper cables and coaxing this car into life! Such an enjoyable find, thanks Jonny.
This really made me smile. My dearly departed dad always wanted a Citroen 2CV, but there wasn't many in Australia. It's such a happy looking little car.
Wonderful to see Bluebell come to life again. My wife bought a similar condition white special 2 years ago and she is now a Beachcomber with the help of parts from Darren.. I would strip back your seats and reupholster them from the frame up. It only took my wife a long weekend and the seats are so comfy now. Happy motoring, Bluebell.
I don't know why, but I found this barn find video quite uplifting; it left me with a big smile and even a tear when she started. Thank you for another fine video, Jonny.
Ahh Howard, thank you. Well sometimes the car isn't the main point of these stories. It is the human backstory and our silly attachment to these machines.
I bought in 1986 an identical 2CV to this from a garage in Peterborough. I travelled all over in it, including to Scotland one year and to Holland another. I found it a better motorway cruiser than my friend's Mini as the engine was so much further away and therefore less intrusive into the Cabin. As I was in Cambridgeshire and this car was in Norfolk our paths must have crossed at some point. I remember once when I was visiting my parents, my mother tried to shut the boot with the stay up, bending it in half...
I've never been able to get excited by a 2CV but I got goosebumps when the engine came to life. I'm so happy for the family to see it run again, just proves what happens if you look after something properly.
You’ve never driven one then. How many cars are there where you can use at 90-100% on its ability most of the time. That said, it can get too exiting at times - especially it the cardboard ducting gets loose and rests on the exhaust. First you smell the smoke but pretty soon you can have a burnt out 2CV like I did.
Finally got round to watching this - what a treat! As a 2CV fan since birth, spending endless time with my Grandad's 2CVs, this video represents why the 2CV is so special. Simple, honest design and an extremely characterful drivetrain. I will always be a 2CV fan. Cheers Jonny for the great video.
Quite frankly this is some of the vest content on UA-cam. Forget super cars, even classic ones. There is more joy in a car like this than any collectors car.
My first car was a 2cv, which I inherited from my Mum. This was such a fabulous episode and brought back so many memories (like changing the steering rack on the drive) and when it started I must admit my eyes were damp.
This is such a beautiful trip down memory lane for this man. Imagine recalling his dad buying this car when he was 7 years old, learning to drive with this car and now seeing all this comes back to life. Wonderful, well done Johnny
I've been in a 2CV and I was very impressed. Beautiful ride quality, very comfy seats and plenty of room. You can even remove the rear seats and turn it into a van quite easily. Just don't expect any performance,. Despite the exaggerated leaning on "fast" corners, the actual handling dynamics are very stable with good direct steering feel also.
Sweet car, sweet sweet car. Lovely to see it up and running again, I hope it gets back on the road for another 140,000mi. Would love to see a followup episode.
Had many a 2cv worked at main dealer used to replace chassis’s in 8 hours book time was 17 hours. Still have all the special tools. Cars a work of art.
My daily transport is a 2CV-Van from 1974 which I completely restaurated, renovated and repainted. It's the most smooth car in my live ! I started driving a 2CV when I was 18, nowadays (at the age of 70) I still drive this 2CV-Van; also a 1977 2CV (without third window !) and a Citroën HY from 1981 as my holliday Camper. All cars renovated like new and been photographed over thousand times ... I'm a happy man ! Greetings from The Netherlands ! 😃
I live in the states and my own barn find is a 1971 SS Chevelle. It has a 396ci big block bolted to a Muncie rock crusher transmission that came out of a 1969 SS Chevelle that was destroyed after being rear ended by a semi tractor trailer. I found it 23 years ago and I still have and drive it.
learnt to drive in an Ami 8 , moved onto Dyane and ultimately Charleston . That non starting turnover noise reminded me of its pre electronic ignition hatred of the damp but loved the fast change straight out 2nd to 3rd on the gear shift . Great to see Bluebell
Johnny,a great episode. The 2CV is an outstanding piece of engineering. The men who designed these cars were artisans in their field. I had one in 1985 and loved it. Only way to drive them is foot to the floor everywhere. I'll buy another someday.
I had 2 of these around then and now, just made 77, am off to view a couple next week hoping to have the joy of ownership and tootling around in one whilst I am still able.
I was working in a warehouse when I bought my first 2cv - red/white Dolly. To say they took the piss was an understatement. Convinced it was one of the greatest cars I'd ever driven, I invited them each on a test drive. They absolutely bloody loved it! A very misunderstood car.
Brilliant stuff, thank so much. I bought a Dyane new in '72 or '73 and loved it. Stupidity of youth and slightly increased income, I eventually traded up to a Honda Civic - a good car but nowhere near as much fun!
So many memories for them with this 2CV that is DEFINITELY a part of the family! I'm sure the Dad had a tear in his eye seeing the old girl fire up again, SHE LIVES! Great work Jonny!
My friend has still got her 2cv6 she bought brand new in 1978, still on the road on a regular basis although it's getting a bit crusty now, but she is going to have it done probably this summer as she doesn't want to let it go
I am not a Citroen fan. Never have been. However, I could not help but be charmed by this episode. How could anyone with a soul not be? A wonderful story in today’s throw away culture, and really pleased to hear ‘Bluebell’ will stay in the family and the owner will hopefully achieve their dream of a French tour. Yes I smiled when it started up, as much as I would an old 6 series. A lovely episode ❤
Truth to tell, Johnny. I have never been more keen to have a barn find car come to life as this one. I was about to sware off the whole premise after seeing so many cars having been turned to rust but this 2CV has so much character and having been shown so much love by its family that I genuinely cheered on start-up. Thank you for that. I only wish that dad had appeared at some point. It's his story after all. Much respect
Such a lovely story and car. The sound of it is so unique. I didn’t realise the engine was so tiny and just two cylinders. Superb camera work again. Nice.
My grandfather bought a 1927 Citroën 12/24 in 1931. It stayed with my family for nearly 80 years. Five generations of my family travelled in it. When my father died I had to sell it. The new owner has fully restored it and when I see it at local car shows my heart still jumps a beat.
You folks gave so much love to the car there. I had a smile on my face at the end, wonderful stuff. I've had two 2cvs, I admit I was glad to get rid of the first, I've regretted the sale of my second one since the day I sold it... That was such a feel good story.... and a tribute to the owner. It wasn't just a car, it was a member of the family.
Well that's taken me back to my yoof! My first car was a red F-plate 2CV6. That "vinyl roof handle" was in fact a strap to hold the roof when fully rolled back to the rear window. IIRC you unpop one end, pull over the rolled roof and you should find a press stud on the outer bodywork to pop the strap to. Have been wondering where my old motor has got to. Anyone seen F233LKX?! Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Jonny!
I really, sincerely hope that the owner finally gives it the little bit of love it needs and then takes it to tour France. I really do love 2CVs (and Dianes), they're great fun to drive and so engaging.
And to cap it all off, Jonny in a 1980's Pop Video smoke affect at the end when it started, on a 1985 Citroen car, a very fitting tribute. Just a perfect way to finish this Barn Find video. Thanks Jonny!😁
Really enjoyed this. Brought my first and only 2CV from Darren in 1995 and still got it! Not a daily driver anymore but a pride and joy that takes me on adventures. The all important 3000 mile oil changes and grease the kingpins every 1000 miles.
my friend had one when i was a student up in aberdeen . We would go on runs into the country .... they hate hills , which in aberdeen is not good... i loved the windows flaps would open around corners and the air vents LOL.. awsome !!! but it worked
Brilliant episode, what a true survivor and in such great condition, it's fantastic to keep it in the family, a good Tcut and polish and a set tyres and it'll be fantastic.
Wow this has really pleased me to see thanks Jonny, The dealership that sold this 2CV is still going albeit as a Suzuki dealership now and prior to it selling Citroen it was a Ford dealership, I remember my Grandfather buying a brand new MK3 Escort from them in early 1981 Flemings was started by 2 brothers Frank and John, its still run by Franks sons, I live a stones throw from the dealership, I might pop in and point them in the direction of this episode 👍
I had a few back in the day where there were not inspections...one engine from one, chassis from other....lovely cars! The last ones were made in 1992 in Mangualde / Portugal!
The memories this car brought back to me, 3 friends and I drove this exact same model from London to Aviemore Scotland in 1986 the day before new years eve, the clutch was slipping slightly but we made it in about 12 hours, even through a blizzard on the A9, got the last bungalow available, hired some ski's and suits, did a bit of skiing, spent new years eve with the friendliest scots I've ever met, and then drove back to London with hangovers on new years day, those were the days. To this day I won't have a bad word said about the 2CV. 😁
This was - another! - great episode. What made it magical was the music. Just wonderful. My first car, 40 odd years ago, was a blue 1972 2CV4, which stayed with me for many, many years. Travelled Europe with it, will never forget the romance of one’s first car. Best regards from Amsterdam, the Netherlands 🇳🇱. Love your barnfinds - eapecially this one!!
When I lived in Northern France in the 80's our neighbour across the street was an old farmer. He had a 2CV parked in a field. It was 80% rust. Literally. You could barely recognise it was a 2CV but me and my brother would sit in it and pretend driving it. That's what you do at 8 years old. Thanks for another great video Jonny!! Fun Fact: last year I worked in the Philips Mircolab building in Eindhoven were they used to build that TV
Love all of your content Johnny. This one brought back memories, of four 2CV6s owned and trashed. The best one was also B reg from the Portuguese factory, imported from Belgium and LHD. This was perfect for touring on the continent, plus the whole driving experience was better, more natural. On a RHD car ,the gear change is awkward and the handbrake, an excuse to fondle the passenger's knee. The rear passenger grab handle ?? is actually part of the fabric roof, one of a pair straps, that secure the entire roof , when it's rolled back, with only press studs.
I test drove one in 1988. It was £3,333 on the road. In the end, I bought a Fiat Panda 1000S but I bought a blue 2CV second hand in 1997. It had a stripy roof and I loved it. I drove it over a speed bump and the steering went odd. I took it to be tracked and the mechanic said I'd snapped the car! The chassis broke just in front of the passenger cabin. I sold it for £100 to a guy around the corner. Three weeks later it was back on the road. I bought another one about 12 years ago and it's sat in my garage awaiting it's re-emergence.
Some of the best content on UA-cam at the moment - the barn find episodes just get better and better, and what a wonderful car and family in this episode
I love how this series is more than simply finding long-forgotten cars in a shed. You've managed to perfectly capture the emotion and nostalgia of retro cars and long may it continue 👏
Wow! That was surreal…. I can’t thank you enough Jonny. You’re as nice in person as you seem on your videos. Darren and Matt were great as well. Dad is still motivated in getting Bluebell back on the road. Definitely a high point in our family history. 😊
Good luck for getting Bluebell back on the road! I'm a fellow 2cv owner so I get the love for the 2cv

I was working in a warehouse when I bought my first 2cv - red/white Dolly. To say they took the piss was an understatement. Convinced it was one of the greatest cars I'd ever driven, I invited them each on a test drive. They absolutely bloody loved it! A very misunderstood car.
Johnny getting the expert in gives another facet on the models history.
Great to see.
What a lovely story attached to this lovely little car,a lovely family growing along side this smashing little 2CV,how I remember my childhood
My mum had a C reg one in that colour. I rember the roof rolled back, standing on the seat holding the cross bar while my mum drove along :D
That was superb. I think my first toy car was a 2CV, that my parents got for me as a present on our first trip to France. Happy memories.
Result! What a great story for a family car. I'd never let the car go either. Thanks Johnny another barnstormer!
Love 2CVs, love this series. This is about as good as it gets. Thanks to the family owners and Jonny and the team. 👍👍👍👍👍
What a lovely example of the 2CV. Neatly preserved in a time capsule garage. Great vid Jonny.
Nice to see her starting up again after all those years. A real keeper, for life.
Nice.
The mighty little car fires app great video. She is in beautiful condition blessings to you all coming at you from the hills of Southern Oregon
Loving the barn finds Johnny. Good to hear the family are keeping the car. It"s obviously been greatly loved.
I love the way the car’s bonnet was bouncing around when you were rocking it back and forth in gear. It was so cute!
The bonnets are made of the lightest material known to mankind.
I had to buy a new battery from Fleming Bros. in Hunstanton last year when mine packed in whilst we were on our annual holiday there 👍
Brilliant episode, what a true survivor and in such great condition, it's fantastic to keep it in the family, a good Tcut and polish and a set tyres and it'll be fantastic.
Love the barn finds, was sick of all the American channels showing their survivor barn finds, great to have UK ones 👍
Enjoyed watching this, I am fettling an almost identical 1988 blue 2CV at the moment. And... I saw this very car yesterday. Looks lovely 😊
Where did you spot it??
Wow this has really pleased me to see thanks Jonny,
The dealership that sold this 2CV is still going albeit as a Suzuki dealership now and prior to it selling Citroen it was a Ford dealership, I remember my Grandfather buying a brand new MK3 Escort from them in early 1981
Flemings was started by 2 brothers Frank and John, its still run by Franks sons,
I live a stones throw from the dealership, I might pop in and point them in the direction of this episode 👍
I had a few back in the day where there were not inspections...one engine from one, chassis from other....lovely cars! The last ones were made in 1992 in Mangualde / Portugal!
Knew she'd start, they're so durable, great vld as always 👏
Soon as I saw it was a 2CV I was "yeah, of course it's going to start"
The memories this car brought back to me, 3 friends and I drove this exact same model from London to Aviemore Scotland in 1986 the day before new years eve, the clutch was slipping slightly but we made it in about 12 hours, even through a blizzard on the A9, got the last bungalow available, hired some ski's and suits, did a bit of skiing, spent new years eve with the friendliest scots I've ever met, and then drove back to London with hangovers on new years day, those were the days. To this day I won't have a bad word said about the 2CV. 😁
Absolutely brilliant! So great to see and hear an old family friend roar into life 👍
Jonny laughing maniacally in a cloud of smoke is why I love this show
My folks bought a 1958 2cv (ripplebonnet) out of a French farmers barn in 2005, it was a state. It’s now 2023 and it’s almost rebuilt!
Can't wait to see that...
Thank you so much John.
Oh, how wonderful to hear her firing up and then purring like a happy kitten! Would love a follow-up on Bluebell and your other barn finds, Jonny.
The 2CV was my first car, back in 1990. Loved every second of this episode. Thanks, Jonny!
Many thanks!
This was just amazing. I adore 2CVs
I love how this series is more than simply finding long-forgotten cars in a shed. You've managed to perfectly capture the emotion and nostalgia of retro cars and long may it continue 👏
Thank you. Yes, the car is important but the main story is always the human emotion.
I was smiling from ear to ear when that beautiful 2CV fired up 😊. Your barn find videos are getting better & better Jonny 👍
She lives indeed. Really hope Bluebell gets to see French soil again this summer! Another great barn find video 😊
I’d love to see an update about that 2CV with a photo of it on a ferry to France this summer . Great episode. Thanks
Positively amazing and heartwarming at the same time. I can only imagine the joy for the family with the car firing up. Awesome.
Grew up knowing nothing but 2CVs, we had four over the years when I was young.
That engine noise brings back so many memories, love those cars!
Always had a least one 2CV since I was 17.....now 57. Many other cars have come and gone, but the 2CV is the keeper!
Sidewinder!
