Some of Half Life 2's guns really bug me. You got the inexplicable double fire of the SPAS, and the MP7's phantom grenade launcher. Also the Combine rifle's poker chip magazines which for some reason you can't hold more than a few of them in that big box.
The SPAS' strange behaviour probably was for videogamey purposes, it kinda reminds me of a Shotgun + Double barrel shotgun combo from Doom. The MP7 having a 'nade launcher probably had to do with the fact that they wanted another SMG like the MP5 from HL1. At first they were going to have the OICW shooting grenades, but they made a last minute change (scrapped the OICW) and assigned that secondary fire to the MP7, not modifying the model in the process. And the Combine's Overwatch rifle has actually a scrapped weapon's model that fired a single round before reloading and they just reused it.
@@FonzSuda7403 Based on the worldmodel of both the grenade and the SMG, the grenade is almost as thick as the gun itself. But might as well have to do with visibility, who knows. Haven't done much research about the why of each model, so I wouldn't go much further with this discussion, as it could be pointless lmao. All I gathered was from a wiki and might not be complete.

When the stock is unfolded, you swing the hook to the side. The hook goes under your arm and the weight of the front of the gun holds it firm around your arm. The recoil isn't very harsh one handing it.
It has to be said that these videos are masterfully edited and narrarated. I especially enjoy the color-scheme of the videos reflecting the flag of the country of the weapons' origin.
I come back to this series every once in a while, the effort you put in to make these really shows, I enjoy hearing the story of the firearm almost endlessly, and my appreciation for their in game appearances is expanded. Thank you Stu, I love your work (all of it) and hope that for as many years as you can and want to, you keep producing videos
My friend has been constantly poking at me to find him some loopholes to get this beauty in real life. So I sent him this video to torture him on it more. Every time I watch one of Ahoy's videos, I start saving up for the gun. So far, I have the magnum revolver, 'M-16' and the Beretta, working towards the AK now! Keep up the good work, you carry an amazing voice.
If you're in the U.S. you don't need to find any loppholes, it's perfectly legal in most states since the assault weapon ban expired, since it's just a semi-auto/pump shotgun, they weren't many imported here though so they are rare, I know aguy that owns one, honestly it's overly heavy and the pump action feels really weird, I'd much prefer a Mossberg 590.
kidthorazine Natasha Parker I read on Wikipedia that older SPAS-12s sometimes fire when you engage the safety, also. It's something to do with the ability to switch between pump action and semiautomatic, apparently. This comment is being posted by someone who's never even held a gun, let alone the SPAS-12 (which is sort of rare, I think), but maybe you should be careful with it anyway.
***** Yeah, I saw what the next video was. That might be a bit trickier, haha. NegativeZone Yeah, that's brutal. Reminds me of Remington's 700 series and their malfunctioning.
I just can't get over the fact that the majority of these iconic gun videos always have my favorite game ever in them showing the weapon in action: Black Ops 1!
There was one game that did take into account it's dual mode operation. 007 Night Fire was my first introduction to the weapon. And it allowed to switch between pump action and semi auto. However it's appearance also told me why it's dual mode operation was never focused on in other games. simply put, if you had to choose between pump action and semi auto. you always chose semi auto. the first thing you did when you got the SPAS 12 was quickly change it to semi auto. So the Pump action mode was pointless. The only way it could work would be if changing the weapon's cycling mode altered it's in game stats. But then it would make no sense. why does changing semi auto to pump suddenly change the Shotgun's pellet spread or damage?
MWIII introduced a fictionalized version and actually gave it the dual operation in-game, making the fire-mode actually unique. More damage with Pump-Action, while Semi-Auto increases fire-rate and notably hipfire/tac-stance spread.
I recently played a game that was a first person shooter spiritual remake of a now old rail-shooter that features a side by side, double barrel SPAS-12. Completely unrealistic but it seemed right at home with the game’s penchant of throwing realistic depictions of firearms out of the window for a more arcade like spirit. The fact that you can dual wield both it and the assault rifle until the second’s magazine was empty was a nice callback to the arcade game’s power ups and the occasional dual wielding some people did.
When I found the Vk-12 shotgun in F.E.A.R. for the first time I thought: Meh... Just another Spas-12 variant... Then suddenly BOOM! Cloud of red mist and a slo-mo click clack... And I turned into Tequila Yuen fighting Sadako...
I would personally recommend reviewing the Gehwer 3 rifle or FN Herstal's FAL/L1A1 rifle. They are two classic weapon designs for the NATO that you can never go wrong with, ones that can actually be capable of being a worthy rival to the AK.

Even though the Remington 870 has a distinct look as well, and is popular among gun enthusiasts, the thing with the SPAS-12 is that it also has a distinct look that is recognized by anyone. There's just no other shotgun that looks like it.
I had no idea that the SPAS iconic silhouette was because of a folding stock. I assumed it was a quirk of it's Russian design, but the damned thing is an Italian weapon! I learned a lot today, Stu.

Sven Coop's Spas 12 does both pump and semi auto.
So does the real one...
David Chang that's cuz half life is awesome.
Nah it cuz the Sven Coop devs wanted a more realistic depiction, they added server commands to switch it back to the Half Life standard though.

Snake, it's a Jurassic Park quote, a character who wields a SPAS-12 says it right before a velociraptor jumps on him and tears his throat out.

You forgot STALKER's SPAS :( :(
Though it is actually grey in colour. Hmm...
I was thinking the same thing
Am i the only one that kinda doesn't like the spas in stalker? It seems pretty weak and innacurate for some reason. Db shotgun or dao-12 is better imo :P

I love the SPAS :P
We are different.
Though I do like the Double Barreled too. Also, the good old Mossberg is a VERY light and VERY tough shotgun :)
Alexander Yordanov I want to like the Spas :( The uniques are better though

Yes the Carabineer is a good gun. I use the Predator though (unique Mossberg).

Always use the SPAS-12 in all games that have it and I always find it to be my best weapon. This gun is bae.
And the Combine's Overwatch rifle has actually a scrapped weapon's model that fired a single round before reloading and they just reused it.
you never noticed the 2nd barrel on the mp7?
@@FonzSuda7403 Isn't that 2nd barrel too small?
@@DyaMetR could be a thinner grenade
@@FonzSuda7403 Based on the worldmodel of both the grenade and the SMG, the grenade is almost as thick as the gun itself. But might as well have to do with visibility, who knows. Haven't done much research about the why of each model, so I wouldn't go much further with this discussion, as it could be pointless lmao. All I gathered was from a wiki and might not be complete.

Why is this gun just so damn sexy ? Also that's what the hook is used for.
so you would have sex with a spas-12? o.O
I would but i dont think the barrel is big enough and im worried what could happen if i stuck it in the feed tube.
Mrchese97 ok then, I won't judge.

0:39 exactly!!! What's the deal???
God that into theme always gets me! I just can’t help but Vibe every time the title card shows up
My friend has been constantly poking at me to find him some loopholes to get this beauty in real life.
Oh yeah, that's right. I'mma derp. Thanks!
Which revolver do you got? I hope to buy a colt kodiak one day.
kidthorazine Natasha Parker I read on Wikipedia that older SPAS-12s sometimes fire when you engage the safety, also.

"And why doesn't anyone unfold he stock?"

because it looks cooler with a folded stock. go ask why you can aim down sights a sawedoff shotgun without breaking your nose instead
TheRyderShotgun I always thought the stock was its iron sights.
Last time somebody had an unfolded stock he was eaten by raptors

@@James35142 It's a movie quote...
The spas12 is a Italian masterpiece
Later games which let you switch different ammo types could simply limit the guns firing mode to one of the two, depending on the round.
Clever girl! Jurassic Park, thats one of my favorite scenes.
“Scary black guns do exactly the same job as more traditional ones. They just look better doing it” God damn, these quotes are amazing
The Jurassic Park quote was the best thing ^_^
Another quality episode!
It's really you! Remember Feb. 18, someone said it was their birthday? That's me! I just changed my name...
Hello :)
I have an idea for Cod vs. Cod. The Bulldog!
This is my second favorite shotgun of all time. I like the AA-12 Automatic Shotgun just a bit better.
i sure miss new videos from you. these firearms videos are the BEST on youtube. just cant beat the history lessons here.
