???..80 series have gutless 6 cyl. 1940 engines.. only good thing about an 80. is solid diff..but they rip the mounts off the diff chassis, if you raise, twist more than factory.. ausie.. [ nissan gu better front diff, susp, being same as f100 4x4, thru eye bolt, not clamped.. nissan still have transmission brake, toyota deleted in in favour of yupi buyers..]
the 4runner chassis is actually a very good one and with independant suspensions its going to be quite more comfortable to drive maybe not as offroad capable as the solid axles front and rear. the chasis was also developped to actually cope with the big heavy v8
Greetings from south central BC, thanks for the video. As a semi-old guy who's been fooling with rigs for more than half a century and 4x4s for almost that long, the only concern I had watching you was that those nice muley mounts are going to be tough to clean in that metal work shop environment! Wonderful project too, super cool and rare. We'll be back!
Yessss... I've been waiting a long time for another one of your projects! You make all the fab work look so easy... thanks for sharing your knowledge & methods.
Translating the Jamaican text means : you are going hard (you are doing quite well) your project is turned up! ( superlatively spectacular) speaks volume.
Dang. This was up for sale here on Facebook for sooo long! I wanted to pull the trigger about 7 different times, but 10k was a bitt too steep for a shell for me. Glad someone snagged it to do a build!
Petrol powered 79 Series ‘Cruisers are extremely rare here in Australasia, if not actually even unavailable. They are all 4.5l V8 diesels. Very popular and highly sought after even second hand. Great reputation for strength and reliability. Huge aftermarket for parts and modifications here.
Dude this truck so so cool!! I would have wanted to make it a custom chassis air bagged with a small diesel. But I think your right, it's so cool as it is and unique. Plus having a modern Yota chassis will be really reliable and allow the truck to be driven like a lot!!
Nice job! You have excellent fab skills. First time I've watched one of your videos but the Toyota drew me. I have an '03 4Runner with V8 and I see your chassis has the XREAS suspension system, which you had to damage to lengthen the frame, but it's easily replaceable with any standard suspension, I replaced mine with Robinson IMS shocks with '07 FJ springs all around.
We have them everywhere here in Aus, great looking utes. Good on you for finding a body and making it work. It will sure catch the attention and envy of more than a few. That music was a wholly unpleasant experience.
I've seen a couple 79s here in the US, but I think they were imported under the sanction that they're basically here for building parts/demos. I know another guy has one here, but I'm not sure the details of his. A lot of the 79s here are being used to build technical trucks for the military. Sweet project dude!
ausie.. you never got nissan gu,s either.. nissan have better diffs, trans brake, thru eye radius rods. but very short coils.. engines not as good. but there half price of a toyota. over rated..
Awesome project, my favorite truck of all time, I’m from Tanzania who leaves in Georgia, back in Tanzania everyone who has money this is the truck they drive, you don’t need to go to Australia for any parts for this, keep in touch, great project brother 🎉
Parts are plentiful in Australia, but remember the right hand drive thing changes more than the firewall and dash. Eg. wipers Keep in mind, that pacific islands like Vanuatu and New Caledonia have the 76 (low roof wagon), 78 (single cab) and 79 (double cab) they are both left hand drive countries.
that 4th gen looks exactly like mine. body hacked off except floor pans and fire wall. have plans to swap stuff into my 90s single cab. perfect video for me to come across!
I wonder why the Toyota museum sold it. That's a sweet looking truck. I've actually considered shipping a Toyota truck like that in parts to America and then reassembling it. I'm not sure how that's done and how to find the cheapest shipping.
Hi from northern Australia. guys around here will give their left nut for one of these trucks. interestingly most will throw out the factory rear axle and replace because its not as wide as the front axle.then after all the accessories added they end up very expensive.... but very capable units. recently the 4 cylinder automatic variety came out with 3.0 L hilux engine under the hood.
ausie.. you pay 110k for a 79 series, with leaf spring. then pay 20k to fix the rear diff.. yup, toyota yeeeehh.. no thanks.. plus the v8 is a gutless pos.. with problems.. twin turbo 79. 680 nm.. 4.2 tdi mwm s/duty. 700nm.. no computer.. those 79,s would TRY & do weelies, burn outs, when they saw me, thinking it was a 7.3.. i laugh.. junk..i tow 4.5t no probs. follow my mates 80 series round sand hills. std truck with 35,s. which toyota cant fit or the economy disapears.. & power.. owned 8 yrs, no probs.. just change oil.. [ 7.3 s/duty get 13 lt 100..]. yes, the 4.2tdi has 510 nm std. just a bit.. bigger turbo.. gives 700nm & 175 kw.. remember.. no fkn computer crap..
Excellent job bro, what thickness material are you using to make the mounts please? I'm planning a similar project with an MK5 Hilux body unto a 90 series landcruiser chassis. Definitely using your approach for guidance.
Pure class! IFS comfort 2UZ power and the perfect body. I bet this will turn as many heads as your other vehicles. OEM+ vote from me! Are you thinking of some factory decals or keeping the pure white? Once the snorkel and bumper is on it might be the time to decide not before I would think.
that truck is the love. If you get me one of that and customize it like i can explain. can get it paid within one year and my life will change for ever. "Thanks for sharing this great talent and handwork"
Hi I am from Middle East we use this truck so much is very famous on middle east if you need any part of this truck search on Dubai or Sharjah n UAE you will get all kind of the part and you are right this is a new body they also have new body for sale also in Dubai nice work keep it up
In Sydney Australia, have a 79 series v8 diesel, i dream of having exactly what you are building. Loooove it. You seem very chilled, loved your work but sorry music sucked nuts. Will definitely follow your build tho😊😊
Dude, you are a very impressive young man!!! That frame stretch was impressive! Great work on this build! I am a big Toyota fan and think this truck is super unique and awesome! “Awesome” isn’t a good enough descriptive word and I can’t stand the word “phenomenal” so I won’t use it to describe your truck! Anyway, Just discovered your channel tonight & subscribed. I will be going and checking out some of your other videos. Thanks for the video!
Awesome work. FJ steelies(same as the 5th gen 4runner spare wheel) would look at home on there and fit the larger brakes the came on the Limited 4runner.
sht engines tho.. ausie.. & the front radius rods are bolted horizontal, no flex.. unlike gu nissan. plus the nissan has a trans brake, which toyota deleted, for some unknown reason..
There's a lot more 79 bodied Cruisers in the US than you think. I built one on a 62 frame and its currently in the LC museum. In fact, I probably brought the body you have into the US in 2010; 1 of 47. Fwiw, you have a left hand drive model so why would you get right hand drive parts out of Australia? You can get all the dash parts from Toyota in the US if you know the part numbers. It aint cheap but cheaper than going to Oz. Good luck with your project.
Not sure how I’m going to get it in garage. Proceeds to tame it in with truck and drag it like a dead body. Was pretty funny to watch and agreed cool truck for sure.
Well done mate, I like your work and I’ve subscribed to your channel. Perhaps rather than fly to Australia for parts you may be better looking for someone here dismantling one and freighting the parts over. With all the pickups available in the US I’m assuming you want this truck because it’s different. We always seem to want what we can’t have 😂😂. Cheers, Stuart 🇦🇺
thats a cool truck, and i just subscribed. i just love these 79 and 80 series models and i'm planning to get an 80 series soon, hoping to learn some things from your journey putting it together coz i plan to strip and restore the entire thing myself as a project.
ausie.. 4.5 not big enough to be a v8 diesel.. FACT.. plus. 15k to fix, the rear diff, which fkn toyota should of done seeing a 200 series is correct.. fk toyota..
Hello from Uganda i have only just stumbled across this video right now. We have these trucks everywhere here, and i would be great to see how you would make this project work over there where they are few few or are not there at all. soucing for parts for toyota will be easy from japan as they barely have much damage and rust corrosion from salt on the roads. i would love to see how this would turn out. i genuiely wish yo all the best sir.
Should've gone with the 80 Series Cruiser Chassis, that's the one of the toughest chassis Toyota ever built, apart from that, keep it coming cheers from Australia 😁👍🇦🇺
I don’t know why you are doing this difficult job, I’m sure it’s not about the money, I’m impressed by your skills and creativity, you work like an Artist.
Worst possible music i poked my ear drum wit a ice pick
U must be new here lol welcome
Awesome! A solid axle swap would be nice, since it's a Cruiser.
homeboy got skills. love it. wish you were my neighbor i can help building all these great projects with.....
I would suggest an 80 series frame instead of the 4runner
Also agree, 4runner is hilux chassis, 80 is landcruiser chassis
but his build, his direction, :-)
@colingale, the new land cruiser uses a Hilux drive train now, so I guess it's only right.

What a cool build! Nice fab on the body mounts!
great progress in a very short time. Mounts look OEM !!! can't wait to see the interior coming together
Translating the Jamaican text means : you are going hard (you are doing quite well) your project is turned up! ( superlatively spectacular) speaks volume.
Looks amazing, the process was absolutely enjoyable. Lots of detail work, you make it look easy!

I love finding these types of youtube channels; by the way, that is a sweet OBS service truck!
You are a very resourceful man. Great job.
Killer Find. Gonna be an awesome build. Your skill set is next level.🙃

helpful advice, thank you!
A nice touch would be wheel arch flares from a GXL model, cover those wheels nicely.
4:42 i love what you did there! that was a clever touch, good luck for the project i was lucky that youtube recommended this video to me.
