I use to work at a gas station in a swankier suburb. We had an air hose outside connected to our shop compressor and it had 125PSI in it. People would stop by all the time to fill up their bicycle tyres. They would put the chuck on and just hold it there until the tyre popped with a loud bang. We always could hear it from inside and we all got a good laugh, fun times.
Guess they didn't know how to do a quick burst and check the feel. I used a gas station with free air that was nearby for years without issue. My road bike tires are 110-120psi. They would handle 125 just fine. Guess people are idiots. Now I have had tubes rupture on me when when pumping them with hand pump. Either because of previous patches or made in China quality. Hadn't even reached the proper pressure yet.
It's been a minute since I have seen a Grand Am on the road. Heck, even the trailer parks are cleared out of them. Replaced by the Equinox, Traverse and Grand Caravan 🤣

I love love love that you took this car and gave it its life back. I miss my 2003 GT, just the same as I miss my 87 Camaro, but still love my 2017 Malibu hybrid. If I had the space, I would absolutely love to bring these machines back to life.

I moved to north Dallas from NJ, and Scott ain't lying, the hail down here is like nothing you can imagine if you haven't seen it first hand. I'm talking baseball size hail that penetrates roof sheathing and totals cars leaving them looking like they've been shot by an A-10.
It is really nice to see the rebuilds coming back again Scott. I do love the longer video formats but I also understand the 30 minute format as well. Great job and thanks again Scott.

6 Years is insane! I was watching a car at copart since the beginning of the year that finally went up for auction about a month ago. And I thought that was a long time (I bought it too). Also with all the Grand Am content I kinda want one now.
A gem of a video from start to finish. Only things missing are a cameo from the Supervisor, and an appearance of Big Bertha (hope she wasn't a victim of the shop fire).
I’m sorry but the tripod falling over was 10/10 (sorry for your camera and lens though); I can only imagine it as the camera was agreeing with you that the fuel smell was so strong that it was going to pass out from it. Again 10/10 😂
I'm 74 and have only known ONE person in my life that actually owned a Grand Am. Not sure what I would do with that one. Glad Scott knows and I hope it serves him well.

I think this video is a great demonstration of experience and skill combined with a very sharp eye. Use a hammer, ram and sharp eye, and eventually the damaged rear end will fit the taillight, trunk lid and the back door works. The car is mechanically sound, so the body damage is the big issue. A lot of people would have waved this car away to the crusher. I'm very glad it has been saved because it still has a good useful life ahead.
Had a 1999 Alero basically same as this and absolutely loved that car. The V6 makes these fun to drive and ironically I bought a car last week my wife finally said drives better than the Alero did
Tap the quarter a little bit, get a can of white rustoleum, and piaint where its peeling. Rustoleum levels nicely and looks decent from 10 feet away. I'v seen many white cargo vans like that.
Just remember everyone, what Scott just described in the beginning is why you need a dash cam. The ones I installed in my car have saved other people already only having them for a year.
What a great deal, $100 is a steal, it would have been worth more as scrap. The Topdon jump pack is great, had one for a while and its started my big old truck and my forklift.
I had a 02, maybe an 03, white GT2. It was an anniversary addition with leather. Had special emblems on the fenders and seats. Have never seen another like it. Sold it to a young girl who wrecked it. It was the best car I ever owned.
It is possible it was an 03, 30th anniversary edition if it had the SCT appearance package It should have had special exhaust tips as well. It also could have been a 2001 but would not have the appearance package or exhaust. Those were the only two anniversary editions.
@@vehcor I asked the ex wife and it was an 01. We had a red 01 that was totaled and I thought we replaced it with a year newer. She said it was an 01. It looked like a standard gt. Had the same tips, spoiler and hood without the inserts. Only difference was it had steering wheel radio controls and leather seats along with the badges on the front fenders behind the wheel, and the embroidered circle in the seats. I will say tho, the car that got totaled we had bought new. It was at the dealer all the time, parts falling off, door effects caught the fender, brakes warping, intake issues and road like a turd. We got the white anniversary car to replace the red one. I was totally against getting another grand am gt. But that car was like night and day. Rode better, no squeaks, was a great car. Sold that for a 06 cts with the handling/appearance package. which I still have. I should paint it and sell it , rare blue chip with beige interior. Tips, spoiler, strut tower brace, larger brakes and 18" wheels. You know the cars.
Even with that gas tank full it couldn't weight but a few pounds, those cars dont take much gas to fill. Awesome video Scott. Good to see you back in the county. 🚗🚗🚗
I worked at a Chevrolet/Pontiac dealer way back when. I remember when that body style came out. They were so sweet! Drove well and were decently peppy! Not Camaro/Firebird level but they had enough pop to get outta their own way!
For a second there I thought that the 'flying' Pontiac coming around the corner on the prongs of the loader was a new CGI fantasy section. Great to have a rebuild back on the channel.
I love the Grand Am GT's. I love the burble of the exhaust and the old GM/Pontiac interior. A seat material that withstood the sands of time and kids climbing all over. My good friend needed to borrow my Chevy mini-van (yes t he dustbuster) to bring his daughter to college and left me with his new Grand Am. My kids loved it and my older son (12) at the time just stood at the rear end listening to it idle. I would love to find one it good condition to have as my 2nd vehicle. Would have to be in good condition as I am too old to work on cars at this point.
I love seeing you turn a car with really no intrinsic value into a daily driver in a day or two. The hidden cost is your time to drive a couple thousand miles. With your skills there is "opportunity cost" to consider, like how much you could make during the hours it took to make that round trip if you put the time to use fixing up a car that you already have or could find locally. But there's the fun factor, which has value. Plus you get to make content and I imagine you make money from the videos as well.
I'm actually impressed that those old tyres hold air at all, sitting for 6 years is long time for a tyre, especially when they are all out for elements and shit like that.
35 years body work here. Block of 2 * 4 and a cut down sledgehammer if you gently bump it you can take most of that dent back out if you guys don't have hydraulic ram set up to do it. I always preferred to cut down Sledge in a block of wood

I have that TOPDON jump starter. The first vehicle I got to start with it was a Ford 6.0L Power Stroke. Out of the kindness of my heart I gave the guy a jump with it and he was impressed. Spun it right over.

I have a 01 grand am as well and I love everything about the car. Got hit once by someone running a red light and she took it like a champ with only the FL tie rod and brake line getting screwed up. These are fairly easy cars to work on and even though it seems that GM marketed them to be cheap disposable cars for college girls, i wont be getting rid of mine anytime soon.
Being in Australia, I'm not very familiar with American cars, but I recognised this one as being a Grand AM Pontiac, because I've seen so many of them in your videos over time. You seem to really like them, probably because they are cheap to buy because nobody else wants them?

I’ve got a 2001 Monte Carlo with that same 3400 v6. Whatch the front head bolts closest to the exhaust manifold in the front. They like to loosen/back out after a while from the heat. Blew up the last motor in it cause of it

I had a '05 GA GT and was a great car the 3.4 was peppy and the car handle well. I only had a fuel pressure regulator go bad and a headlamp relay go bad that's it. The monsoon stereo didn't sound the greatest but I did enjoy the car while I had it.

Rust reformer, cavity wax, on the seen surfaces - pdr and bondo and some spray paint. Change tires and drive it.
Absolutely 100% spot on about Texas windshields. Drove my crown vic to visit family in Texas, and the windshield cracked on the second day!😂

I drove a 98 GrandAm, standard, for about four years. It was a fun car to drive. No drywall screws though.

@vehcor the screws with coarse thread you can buy as the plasterboard/gipsplate screws, those have extra coarse and wide thread.

Keep the silver tray to put under car tires with frozen brakes to slide the car on the car trailer.

Being in Australia, I'm not very familiar with American cars, but I recognised this one as being a Grand AM Pontiac, because I've seen so many of them in your videos over time. You seem to really like them, probably because they are cheap to buy because nobody else wants them?
On the contrary, I sell them as fast as I get them!
They are cheap to buy because they’re all 25+ years old, and good to sell because they’re reliable and easy and cheap to fix.

know a guy in Florida that pulls parts for northern cars, said he walked by one at the upick in Tampa this week lots of rust stuff up there especially the North east and lots of stuff is obsolete now..

I’ve got a 2001 Monte Carlo with that same 3400 v6. Whatch the front head bolts closest to the exhaust manifold in the front. They like to loosen/back out after a while from the heat. Blew up the last motor in it cause of it

That's a lot of red Texas dust;I'd be more worried about what slithers in that dust!Must be slim Grand Am pickens in Illinois if you have to go all the way to Amarillo!

I had a '05 GA GT and was a great car the 3.4 was peppy and the car handle well. I only had a fuel pressure regulator go bad and a headlamp relay go bad that's it. The monsoon stereo didn't sound the greatest but I did enjoy the car while I had it.
