It's been a minute since I have seen a Grand Am on the road. Heck, even the trailer parks are cleared out of them. Replaced by the Equinox, Traverse and Grand Caravan 🤣
I use to work at a gas station in a swankier suburb. We had an air hose outside connected to our shop compressor and it had 125PSI in it. People would stop by all the time to fill up their bicycle tyres. They would put the chuck on and just hold it there until the tyre popped with a loud bang. We always could hear it from inside and we all got a good laugh, fun times.
Guess they didn't know how to do a quick burst and check the feel. I used a gas station with free air that was nearby for years without issue. My road bike tires are 110-120psi. They would handle 125 just fine. Guess people are idiots. Now I have had tubes rupture on me when when pumping them with hand pump. Either because of previous patches or made in China quality. Hadn't even reached the proper pressure yet.
I like to imagine these old Pontiac Grand Ams all talk about being bought by Scott is like getting a new life. Anyone else, scrap city, but he puts love into his creations.
I had a 99 grand am se and then a 01 grand am gt for my first and second car. I absolutely loved them. What good cars, wish gm still made cars like that. I respect your grand am addiction!
I love love love that you took this car and gave it its life back. I miss my 2003 GT, just the same as I miss my 87 Camaro, but still love my 2017 Malibu hybrid. If I had the space, I would absolutely love to bring these machines back to life.
Dear vehcor Scott. 👍👌👏 Congratulations! 🎉 Great purchase. Personally I wouldn't change the trunk lid but repair it (because it has only minor damage). But of course it's your decision! This rust free car is actually too good for using it as a winter beater. But of course it's your decision. I really like that you like these cars. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health in particular. Post Scriptum: Hope you will have a new shop soon.
I moved to north Dallas from NJ, and Scott ain't lying, the hail down here is like nothing you can imagine if you haven't seen it first hand. I'm talking baseball size hail that penetrates roof sheathing and totals cars leaving them looking like they've been shot by an A-10.
Tap the quarter a little bit, get a can of white rustoleum, and piaint where its peeling. Rustoleum levels nicely and looks decent from 10 feet away. I'v seen many white cargo vans like that.
It is really nice to see the rebuilds coming back again Scott. I do love the longer video formats but I also understand the 30 minute format as well. Great job and thanks again Scott.
I’m sorry but the tripod falling over was 10/10 (sorry for your camera and lens though); I can only imagine it as the camera was agreeing with you that the fuel smell was so strong that it was going to pass out from it. Again 10/10 😂
6 Years is insane! I was watching a car at copart since the beginning of the year that finally went up for auction about a month ago. And I thought that was a long time (I bought it too). Also with all the Grand Am content I kinda want one now.
A little Gloss white house paint and a paint brush and this thing will be ready for resale! You do good body work. Love watching and learning from you!
1the grandam suffers from gm paint issue 2 the pizza girl could turn the key while while you spray the intake 3 the red winter beater still hasnt turned to rust but you love working on grandams as they are easy to work on
Insurance companies don't pay claims resulting from criminal acts, plus in criminal cases the chain of custody must be maintained by the police not third party storage yards.
Being in Australia, I'm not very familiar with American cars, but I recognised this one as being a Grand AM Pontiac, because I've seen so many of them in your videos over time. You seem to really like them, probably because they are cheap to buy because nobody else wants them?
A gem of a video from start to finish. Only things missing are a cameo from the Supervisor, and an appearance of Big Bertha (hope she wasn't a victim of the shop fire).
I think this video is a great demonstration of experience and skill combined with a very sharp eye. Use a hammer, ram and sharp eye, and eventually the damaged rear end will fit the taillight, trunk lid and the back door works. The car is mechanically sound, so the body damage is the big issue. A lot of people would have waved this car away to the crusher. I'm very glad it has been saved because it still has a good useful life ahead.
Scott I enjoy watching someone skilled bring back a car from salvage to running/useable. Heck it would not be a bad work car just like it is after a good cleaning.
Had a 1999 Alero basically same as this and absolutely loved that car. The V6 makes these fun to drive and ironically I bought a car last week my wife finally said drives better than the Alero did
I worked at a Chevrolet/Pontiac dealer way back when. I remember when that body style came out. They were so sweet! Drove well and were decently peppy! Not Camaro/Firebird level but they had enough pop to get outta their own way!
One of those deals where the auction should have paid you to take it! lol I used to sell these new in 25 years ago. My favourite of the GM cars of the time!
The other day the Wife and I were on I-10 here in Texas and I looked over and saw a car transport with some wreaked vehicles on it. I said that one car is from Florida. She said what, does it have FL tags? I said no, I can tell from the sheetrock screws holding the front bumper on. LOL
I love the Grand Am GT's. I love the burble of the exhaust and the old GM/Pontiac interior. A seat material that withstood the sands of time and kids climbing all over. My good friend needed to borrow my Chevy mini-van (yes t he dustbuster) to bring his daughter to college and left me with his new Grand Am. My kids loved it and my older son (12) at the time just stood at the rear end listening to it idle. I would love to find one it good condition to have as my 2nd vehicle. Would have to be in good condition as I am too old to work on cars at this point.
I'm actually impressed that those old tyres hold air at all, sitting for 6 years is long time for a tyre, especially when they are all out for elements and shit like that.

Even with that gas tank full it couldn't weight but a few pounds, those cars dont take much gas to fill. Awesome video Scott. Good to see you back in the county. 🚗🚗🚗
For a second there I thought that the 'flying' Pontiac coming around the corner on the prongs of the loader was a new CGI fantasy section. Great to have a rebuild back on the channel.
I’ve got a 2001 Monte Carlo with that same 3400 v6. Whatch the front head bolts closest to the exhaust manifold in the front. They like to loosen/back out after a while from the heat. Blew up the last motor in it cause of it
Why did you have to look at the footage to see if the fuel pump was working? I only yelled "ITS ON!!!" 3 times. Sheesh, no wonder the pizza girl never brings you pizza! 😅 For $100, even if it was a basket case, you could restock the emporium with what was good, but glad it was a good deal.
I have a 01 grand am as well and I love everything about the car. Got hit once by someone running a red light and she took it like a champ with only the FL tie rod and brake line getting screwed up. These are fairly easy cars to work on and even though it seems that GM marketed them to be cheap disposable cars for college girls, i wont be getting rid of mine anytime soon.
I worked at a Car auction.. The BIG NAME ones where all the used cars go.. Rental cars. And They were even doing wrecks. We had some cars for over 4 years on the lot baking in the FL sun. Its crazy they just keep running it through for X price and they keep trying.. They had this 911 porsche with flat tires and a donut that was sitting in the back row for maybe even longer. One day they finally did something with it and it Started and ran! I forked it too many times with the tow truck. I mean. Just jammed the wheel lift under the back lifted it up just to move it around a few feet. I messed that car up good I did not care because it was always in the way when the line car changed and cleared out.. And there is the 911 again all alone. Lets move it!. I eventually scooted it down to the front corner so I didnt have to fork it anymore.
I've got an XJR we waited for 6 years to get at auction in Terre Haute. It was hit by a forklift in that time, too. Two years later it's sitting in a corner of my shop, untouched... Got a Grand Am sitting in Terre Haute looks just like that one, but it's ram air and cost me $350!
I had a '05 GA GT and was a great car the 3.4 was peppy and the car handle well. I only had a fuel pressure regulator go bad and a headlamp relay go bad that's it. The monsoon stereo didn't sound the greatest but I did enjoy the car while I had it.

@vehcor I agree the 5th Gen was a great seller for Pontiac. They were popular cars to mod back in 2010 too. I've been thinking about a 5th Gen upgrade for some time, but I just can't get past the looks on the older 4.5 gen refresh. It's just a clean and rounded look, and I like it better than the 5th gens cladding.
Auction car loading question. If a car is run and drive ( as in can drive at normal speeds ) will the auction allow the buyer to load into a trailer or is forking the car to the trailer required?
They bring it out with the loader and will set it on the trailer, next to the trailer or in the middle of the lot if you want to drive it home. If you have a high end car, you can pay extra and they will not bring it out with a loader and you can go get it in the yard. That is a gimmick because it has already been moved with a loader multiple times before it comes up for auction.

IIRC many/most dealers belong to a regional dealer association and they use that buying power with the manufacturer by agreeing to by specific configurations for savings and also to limit losing sales for minor option differences.
