      He's a bigot through and through. He's incapable of understanding the concept of a good witch. To him, magic is evil, and no amount of persuasion and evidence is going to convince him otherwise. That he could be wrong about, well, anything is a foreign concept to Belos. That's why he blamed the witches in the end. His 'never my fault' personality was what convinced Luz to just let him die.

      yeah!! earlier in the episode the titan helped her realize that wanting belos to be dead doesn't make her bad like him. So this is such a great moment for her, unmoving in the face of his manipulation, finally shutting him up forever.
      Which also ties into belos's character in how, as a manipulator, he NEEDS to feed off others to survive. So him being killed by her unwillingness to let him manipulate her is thematically perfect.

    I love the contrast between Belos and Luz in this scene. The small details like the boiling rain literally melting Belos into mush as he winces in agony compared to the way it just bounces off of Luz with a magical ting. It really shows Luz's almost symbiotic relationship with the Isles if that make sense, Meanwhile the Isles have been actively rejecting Belos since his arrival, like a parasite. That's so smart considering how he basically turned into a LITERAL parasitic fungus/lichen that overtook everything.

    The way that he died trying to do what he did his whole life; lie and manipulate people

    1) King’s dad using a bread pun shows that he has always been watching over his son and has seen him using bread puns with Luz. How sweet is that!
    2) King’s dad had a worm coming out of his eye, but upon further speculation, it’s actually Hooty! This means that Hooty is a PART of the Titan - a giant worm if you will - and was probably sent/created by the Titan to protect his son and his family!

    The thing about redemption is that it’s a choice. A sinner would choose to try to seek it, if they are genuinely willing to do it
    The Collector wasn’t wrong to try, he’s a child who literally just learn the value of redemption and was redeemed himself, especially with himself being a misunderstood child with godlike power
    But Belos would never try to seek redemption, he never acknowledged what he did was wrong. From slaying his brother, to everything that followed
    He wasn’t asking Luz to save his soul, to simply spare him, and give himself a chance to backstab later
    Luz knew what turned him into this, yet knew it was no longer worth the effort, that he was no longer worth the effort

    While villain redemption and de-powerment can work really well, it needs to be though out and fit the themes of the story and character of the main villain. Belos is a villain who fits neither of these categories, being to his very core a irredeemable, psychopathic monster. A fanatical, murderous tyrant driven by blind hatred and ambitions to destroy all who he hates.
    People like belos don’t change as they lack the empathy and self reflection to care about other people. His crimes against all witch kind/ Caleb/ Hunter/ and the other golden guards/ and everyone else he’s hurt are to numerous to ever be forgiven. And even without glyph magic or his monster form, he is too dangerous and ambitious to be left alive.

    @aaaaaaaa-tz7tu Рік тому +23

    I think a detail I love about this scene is the fact that...that's not how curses work. At all.
    Eda's curse is a prime example. It responds to emotions, primarily fear. It lashes out when it thinks it's danger, it's pretty much the embodiment of fight or flight. It's not some horrible demon set on ruining lives, it's scared and desperately trying to protect itself and doesn't know how. It's frightened and hyperaware of everything. And when it gains better ways to protect itself, it tries. It's literally just fear and pain and anger manifested. Not some horrific boogeyman.
    Then there's Belos.
    Belos CHOSE to be this. CHOSE to do everything he did, curse or no curse. We saw how he looked when he loses control of the curse in COTH and the *beginning* of HP. Him hurting his nephew at the end, very clearly controlled? Choice. Him trying to kill literal children? Choice. Him trying to commit GENOCIDE? Choice!
    Nobody forced him to do anything. Curses are stress and anger and heightened emotional response sensitive, constantly running on overdrive trying to protect themselves. It is not some force that corrupts and completely changes someone. It influences them, makes them do things that they heavily regret, but it's things like Eda attacking her dad because the owl beast had a flashback to the Collector. Lilith transforming when she's heavily emotional and breaking down. Yknow, not calculated. Panic responses. Not *plotting genocide.* There is a massive difference between the two! And at the end of the day, it's WORLDS apart from each other. There is no excuse for what he did. And there never, ever, will be.

And Luz having lost a father to a terminal illness, almost lost a mother to what is essentially a terminal illness, and having an aunt who struggled with it? It was the wrong person to dare pull that card with. Not only is it not how curses work, but he's trying to use her own horrible experiences to get to her.
      He had it coming and, like you said, it's an insult to people who actually have those conditions to make it out to be some "turns you evil" bullshit. Man I love this show.

There is no 'human' to that man as even the literal act of purification finds nothing other than evil within him. I love that Luz did nothing to help Belos, but didn't outright kill him either. She simply stood there listening to his obvious lies, waiting to see if finally... FINALLY Belos would show some self awareness of his crimes or repent.
    But as Belos continues to try in vain to lie and manipulate Luz, finally blaming the witches of the Boiling Isles, Luz simply watches and continues to wait for him to change, knowing he won't.
    If Belos had displayed genuine regret (as the collector did), I feel Luz would have helped him. I truly do. But we and Luz both knew that wasn't going to happen. Belos had every chance to embrace the Isles and leave behind his misanthropic crusade.
    But he didn't. And he got exactly what he deserved.

    As much as I like redeemed villain endings, I can't deny how deeply satisfying this was. Because unlike the Diamonds, or Zuko or King Andrias or Sasha or Catra, Belos was NOT redeemable. He was not a person who saw all the horrors his deeds had wrought, all the awful things he had caused, and saw the error of his ways. He was not someone who would look at all he's done, and do what he can to fix things like Amity or The Collector. Heck, he wasn't even willing to go out with dignity like the Nowhere King, realising that his oblivion is the only way things can end. Right to the end he was bigoted, hypocritical and desperate to be the hero.

    The fact that he even tries to create another excuse to manipulate her again meaning he didn't learn anything and thinks she's the same naive girl like she was back in Season 1 but looking at this now we can see the BI has helped her onto maturing and not to be easily tricked like she was before. The fact that Luz just stood there and not saying anything is quite powerful and a parallel towards the last episode where Caleb was standing in front of him and not saying anything. The fact she didn't kill him as well just shows that she isn't like him and never will be.
    This series is truly remarkable and inspiring thank you Dana, cast and crew for all of your hard work throughout the years.

    This was a fitting end for belos. Instead of luz trying to talk no jutsu him, he was already beyond redeemable and his fate was sealed.

      Collector already tried earlier in the episode anyways. There can be no redemption for those that truly cannot see that they need it, for those that bite the hand that reaches out. He was given many opportunities, and took none of them.

      I think Belos might just have survived.

    • @brolytriplethreat
      @brolytriplethreat Рік тому +1

      @Jack Penn oh definitely not. He knew his number was up, there wasn't even much of him left. What The Collector did to him had already left him extremely weakened(took months draining hosts to be in any condition to confront anyone and even then when he returns to the Isles we find he's still unstable and needed to consume a Grimwalker corpse just to survive long enough to reach Raine
      And from there he just keeps losing more and more goop while "Belos Prime" becomes more and more emaciated. By the time he attaches to the Heart his entire lower body was gone and his _ribcage_ was exposed.
      And what was left was stomped to death. And just to make sure we know he's going, when we see King flicking the goo off his feet it disintegrates into the air.
