It’s been a minute since you posted this, but I just want to tell you how much I appreciate what you do. And it turns out, I appreciate you! It’s always hard to share…exponentially hard over social media so putting yourself out there was risky. I have the stainless steel pathfinder canteen set. I definitely recommend anyone who does anything outdoors buy a canteen set of some kind.

I ordered one of these from your Amazon link after watching this. I have been meaning to try a titanium set, but $150 is a bit more than I wanted to pay. $50 bucks is a lot better & I already have the nalgene canteen, so this is perfect. Thanks for the review.
4 months later watching and its about 80 on amazon now, cool, but not sure its 80 dollars cool when there are a million other options out there lol
I cook with the same military canteen stove. Ramen is a great idea but I add 2-3 eggs while the water is boiling then the noodle and soup base for about 20 minutes until fully cooked. Thanks for vid.
I've only just found this vid so....the famous Blackie Thomas has just bought this set for a long term test and has worked out some of the potential problems before use so he discovered that with a little gentle persuasion the butterfly handles will pop off so it's being used more like a pot than a mug and he intends to place the pot sideways on the stand/stove progress reports to follow on his channel hope this helps ...Bill

Nice video. I’m in central Ohio Columbus area also. Getting out into nature for a couple days is extremely refreshing both for mental health and physical health.

Now , that was a great video..It described everything about the canteen cook stove...Thanks Man..I bought two ...THE ONLY BEST WAY TO GO BACK PACKING....I NEVER RUN OUT OF FUIL .and , even if I use A pocket rocket or alcohol stove and run out of fuel ? I will always have a backup plan with my canteen stove.

GREAT GEAR, GREAT SHOTS, GREAT PIPE! (Caps locked, it’s St. Patty’s day🙄) no traffic background noise. I flip my kidney shaped pot on the stove for a little more forgiveness on placement. So good.
Be sure to get the taller stove stand if using wood 🪵 or alcohol 🍸....the short stand is for fuel cubes incase you do like , I did ...I have both ? Lol

Nice looking kit. It seemed like every storm over winter went Dayton and north. Here in Southern Ohio/Northern KY we didn't get alot of the storms. Being out in woods is great way to decompress from day or week.

I have a military style kit. Stove cup lid plus a plastic army surplus canteen. The case for it has a pocket on the outside for a fuel tab or two. I think I paid about 50 bucks for it.

That's a nice set up. I didn't know you are a pipe smoker I find that smoking my pipe is a very relaxing pass time especially in the outdoors.

Has anyone drilled a couple of holes through the stove stand, turned it upside down, put a piece of wire through the holes, and partially ‘nested’ the canteen cup down onto the wire at just the right height to support the cup over an alcohol stove (eg trangia)? This should put the bottom inch or two around the sides of the canteen deeper down into the windshield, and simulate what the WW2 swedish trangia mess kit does with wire supports that the Swedish 1.5L pot sits on.
Boundless voyage made a big mistake with their 1.5L mess kit replica by not making an alcohol stove stand to nest with it like the Swedish M40 kit does…so annoyed
And the Boundless Voyage 1.5L mess kit pot and nesting frypan/cup are too big to kind-of fit into this 800ml nesting pot stand, but just maybe if this 800ml pot stand was cut down the front it could be forced to flex open enough to get the BV 1.5L canteen pot down to around the ideal height for a trangia stove? 🤔

I would advise doing your batoning and cutting off the ground cloth... you’re going to damage it eventually. Otherwise, relaxing video. :)
These canteen stoves really are primarily for the coals from a wood fire. Not easy to keep a flame under these...esp. when there is no venting on the top when you put the cup on it. I did expect much more smoke when you did so than I saw. Lack of this proper amount of venting is common on many stick stoves, too. A gen ll release usually corrects that on proper stoves. Pathfinder stove has that built in raised section that helps greatly in eliminating the smoking and fire damping. I use it w/an alcohol stove so damping is not an issue. If you keep the handle side of the cup upwind and on the opposite side of the large feeding hole they will stay cooler and attract less soot....may not be practical for filming, though, I would guess as angles are important. I'm glad you put the pipe down after your opening segment. It was honestly annoying to have to watch you remove the pipe every 10 seconds to speak properly. Just an honest opinion. Maybe hold the pipe back for the musical interlude?? I have worked the graveyard shift with non consecutive days off and it sucks!. But if the money is good enough you get used to it. But like you insinuated....your social and/or UA-cam life does indeed suffer. Not all can do it. Great vid on an item I had not seen before. Price is good, too. Glad to see you back on air! Thanks!
