I was pulled by this beautiful loco on the Merseyside Express to Euston from Lime Street Liverpool in the early 60s. With some other young people got to cab the loco at Euston big queue in those far off days too!
Would really love to see DELTIC run again one day and one the main line. Would certainly look and sound better than the half a cylinder shunter in this video!!!
I have been reliably informed that it will never run again. The Layout of The Science Museum changed since it was installed there. When it was removed to go to York they had to take the body off its bogies and the complete idiots just cut through all cables wire etc to take it apart to get it out of the door. To redo all that if anyone alive still knows how, plus how much for all the new parts?
what would it take and how much cost, to get this bastion of a supreme example of british engineering at it's best up and running again ,they did it with mallard, and flying scotsman god knows how many times , and build a brand new steam locomotive ,tornado ,from scratch {no blue prints ,nothing } a wonderful achievement by the A1 society , it would also be wonderful to see deltic run under its own power once again , surely if the skills knowledge and dedication by the A1 socitey can build a brand new steam loco , the skills ,knowledge and dedication must be out there to get this magnificent locomotive back into working order
the machinery is unique even against the production deltics so to get her running would require either alot of custom 1-off components or a major internal rebuild
What I'd give for them to stop sitting on their hands and get this magnificent, majestic machine up and running. If it got to sit alongside its moving Class 55 brother and sisters, then why can't it itself get moving like in its younger days?

we would all love to see this running again what a sight she would be on the main line against all the overseas junk
That shunter sounds completely knackered!
Sounds?

Beautiful looking locomotive. I like the clag and smoke rings from the little shunter! Nice video, thank you.

It surely must be possible to fit this loco with an engine from one of the scrapped Deltics.
Unfortunately, the proto has a problem that most of its parts were hand built and not like the transferable parts on other deltics.
Great video of an awesome loco.Would love to see it storming up the ECML.

That pilot sounds rough, some adjustments needed there!
Close behind an A$ comes The Deltic in my book of locomotives.
So why can't it run, does it have an engine, are the parts too worn?
would it be possible to ever get the prototype up and running again or would it cost too much money?

Well that was something between a letdown and anticlimactic.
Down with diesels and up with steam!
steam to power trains it is obsolete, we need more power than what we can put down with steam power
I don't know why but I've always thought diesels and early electrics are cooler than steam anyway.
@Alexander Challis Thanks, very interesting indeed
