Great content and well edited. Im a huge Polaris guy and this is one of them videos that i just dont understand why it doesnt have hundreds of thousands views. Im glad i found it.
I know this is an old thread but seeing that turbo brought back memory's from when we raced back in 1983-1985. My parents owned Arizona Power Sports. We had a real genius of a mechanic, Ron Chasteen. He designed a turbo system that we used on 4 Polaris Indys. We mostly raced in Colorado and New Mexico. They were very fast and really not many sleds could come close to us. He then started Injection Research Services and designed a EFI system that he took to Polaris in '87 . After meeting with Polaris and Fugi , and showing his EFI system, Polaris said no thanks but came out with their system in '89. Ron took them to court and won around 57 million dollars. I don't know what happened to our original 4 race sleds but I'm always looking hoping a collector might have them. Those were some fun days racing.
I grew up around the Middlesex Power Marine Shop and Mike Mazur made these 600 / 650 Turbos fly... there is lots more to it than just bolting on a turbo and airbox and expecting it to have more power than a stock 650 carb and clutching setup.. this was OLD School Technology when comparing to todays 4 stroke and continued 2 stroke turbo applications
@@ryanxcr800 absolutely been running asphalt the past few years. We have a strong xcr owners Facebook page! And in process of a new ice sled build all is well Merry Christmas!!
I knew Mike and actually got to ride in the groomer a few times with him up by his shop in Rockwood, ME after he left Tyngsboro. Such an interesting guy with awesome stories. A little rough around the edges, but that's how the best ones are!
Those turbo kits worked very good back in the day. Primitive but functional. For more HP you needed to lower the compression ratio pack more air into the engine. A good running 650 would go past the C note. The new 800/ 850 would have its hands full to outrun a 650.
I had a 1996 Indy xcr 600 triple that I boosted and ran on 110 octane made 8psi i used 3 fuel pumps one for each carb. I had to take a special plate for the heads to hold them down. And ran 488 fan pistons. I’d send pics if I could but you tube won’t let me
Joe Blow dude why you will spend so much money on a sled that’s not worth over 1 grand, sell it and get like a xc 700 or 600 for the same power as the turbo 500
A 700 won't keep up to a properly turboed 500 for one thing. For another, it's the experience I'm after and as I don't ride a ton as far as trailriding goes, I have no excuse to go buy something like that. And btw, I paid 300 for it.
Joe Blow I doubt that honestly, you are stupid to even turbo a Indy 500 unless you have a shit ton of money and if you do do a turbo your going to have to run a lot of psi to even keep up with a xc 700, just jet, clutch your Indy 500 they are not made to be turbocharged they are reliable and cheap that’s what Polaris made them to be
@@thatbigblock7007 It's been done. Back in their day someone made a turbo kit for them, I can't remember the brand, but they ran 7-8 lbs of boost and absolutely ripped.
Back in the day put a lot of arowdyen turbos on the 650 I like them because they had the oil right in the turbo no out side oil tank or pump needed still have on for a twine cylinder Polaris and a v- max 4 Yamaha

Yes, it has been done many times over the years. If setup properly, the hp gains can be exponential. Very difficult to tune a carborated two-stroke though.
All those awesome old sleds rotting in trailers instead of being sold at reasonable prices to guys that would run them. They will be worth less each year as they deteriorate, shame!

The best place to deal with had my motor built from Dave five years ago and It still does 115 mph and doesn’t miss a beat

wow ..i remember when you guys opened glad you guys are doing good
That turbo definitely needs a bearing
It needs load for it to move air. Rip it and under load and it’ll spool
@@jafferm1938 theres no way the impeller should be stationary even at idle

All I can remember is the insane amount of fun I had on those sleds and the bog...god they bogged.
yeah, while it was bogging, the 617 and 670 skidoos were GONE!

The booogggg is what switched me to doos... crisp throttle and excellent brakes.
congratulations for this spectacular video that you shared on youtube, I follow you from Italy
I bought the 84 indy 600 brand new that winter, It was a rocket for the time period. I think they rated it at 95 HP

Seems the bearings are shot in that turbo!

Rebuild the bearing on the turbo and do more videos on it.

Is this Roadkill for snowmobiles?

That was funny!
Hi gays🖖nise job💪😉
Cool idea but I bet it makes less hp with the turbo.. In fact it would make less. Piston port with zero tuning. Cool idea though lol.
I saw several turbo kits on piston Port triples back in the day and they worked really well when actually set up properly.
Did it blow up? Lol
I’d put mesh over that turbo or it’s gonna suck up nothing but crap
The amount of money to turbo a 600 and you could have had a 850
Did not know you could turbo a 2T
Yes, it has been done many times over the years. If setup properly, the hp gains can be exponential. Very difficult to tune a carborated two-stroke though.
Blow through carb setups are a bit tricky. The new sleds are all direct injection 2 strokes so it is very easy.
