That’s exactly what we did! We sold our 4bdrm, 2bath house on a huge lot, and bought a 580sqft, 1bdrm condo. We also sold a vehicle. By doing this we paid off all our debt and now we’re saving over $2000 a month and have never felt more free! It’s also brought my husband and I closer together as a couple.

Yes, on all this. Having been a condo owner is a no. Never a shared space-- you are liable for any and all debts the community may incur. We had someone bankrupting the community. I sold out at very low. But the money was actually worth x3 fro the escape. Be aware.

At 61 years old I have decided to look for another job. I’ve been at the same company for almost 24 years. I’ve had the last 4 months off work due to foot surgery and during that time I’ve had time to think and realize that the last 10 years I work does not have to be at a place I don’t enjoy any longer. #reset #nevertoolate #startingover

I am 52, left a job of 19 years in February, it was time -I was stressed and miserable , I am using the same knowledge base but in a different position at a new pediatric practice . Best decision I could have made , it has reinvigorated me and given me a new found confidence , lots and lots of prayer and waiting before I found this opportunity and it was worth it ! I "reset" my life four weeks ago today when I finally got up the moxie and courage to tell a so-called "friend" that she was far too toxic and full of pure hatred for me to want to deal with her anymore. Thankfully, she immediately ended our relationship, and it's been the most peaceful month since I moved to this city 32 months ago. It's rather astonishing, the many comments I've seen all over the Internet about how this whole pandemic/stay-at-home time has brought about so many good changes in people's lives---apparently we all needed to have such a time, whether we knew it, or not (not the illnesses, please understand! Never that; but the forced time at home bringing such different perspectives to the forefront of our minds).

We "reset" in 2008. We packed up everything and moved to Mexico. Our kiddos were then 10, 8, and 6, and the great recession was hitting Phoenix, AZ. July 7, 2007, the kids and wife went, and I followed in Feb. 2008. Started businesses, and we are BOOMING! We then found minimalist, and in Mexico, this is a great way to live.
Thanks for the videos, and yes, definitely RE-question EVERYTHING you were ever taught or told. God bless you all!

@@margaretm9028 Hi Margaret, we had a plan. I was doing the 60-65 plan (60 hrs a week for 65 years), and then I saw a video on a religious site that talked about the Mexican fisherman who "caught" just enough for his daily needs, and then hung out with his wife and kiddos, and spent time in the evening with his friends playing guitar, and I thought, that's the life for me. I had already promised by Mexican wife that we would move there, but we jumped ahead because of the ressession, etc., and that video. It's called the Mexican Fisherman or some such. It will change your life, and coupled with Joshua's wisdom, you're a shoo in! On that parable, I remember Jesus teaching that the birds do not gather, yet their Father feeds them, and I said, time to become a bird. :D He gather nothing, we serve our community, and we live every day with no debt, and it's just great!

@@PeaceLoveAndEternalGrooviness We moved first to the Guadalajara area, where I got my Mexican citizenship, then we moved to Aguascalientes. ABSOLUTE excellence here; love it. If you behave like anywhere in the world, no trouble finds you; AND, if you live like Joshua teaches, you can live the dream life surrounded by the 4 Fs (Faith, Family, Friends, and Food). What else can I say? It's a "slight" adjustment period (kind of equal to my moving to California from New York), but it's worth it! Thanks for asking. No crime for us ever.

I've always called this "re-inventing myself" and I've done it several times over the course of 46 yrs. Simple, but not easy. Fulfilling, but not for the faint of heart. My son fell into alcohol & didn't come out for nearly 10 yrs. When he was ready, he came to me and asked me how to re-invent his life, leaving alcohol out. We sat down and pro/con'd it on paper, what was the goal, and the roadmap to the goal...and what happens after the goal is met. It sure wasn't easy. But, he's now sober day by day, happy and much more content. We used minimalism a lot to help the process gell and solidify.

I like your nuanced and compassionate views on relationships. Some minimalists and coaches and UA-cam stars advocate getting rid of people who don't serve your purpose or don't give you positive energy too vigorously in my opinion. There can be people in your life who are depressed, toxic or otherwise negative but who need your help. It would break my heart if everyone were to "declutter" those groups in society.

Wife and I hit reset in 1989. We had a house and were spending money. We started resenting the debt. We chose after 5 years to sell the house, use the profit from the sale to eliminate all our debt. It worked. We moved to an Apartments for a couple of years and continued to be debt free. I worked a second job to earn more money so we could buy a house again the right way. It worked. Now I'm 70 and we have been minimalists since those day. We have no credit cards or debt and haven't since those days. God has blessed us for so many years. We pray God blesses you as well.

There's a kind of pruning called thinning where you reach into the plant and make significant but selective cuts to reduce the overall size of the plant. This is in contrast to heading or shearing where you just go over the surface to shape the outer appearance of the shrub. Some of what you're describing sounds like good thinning cuts. Well chosen thinning makes the plant healthier, smaller and overall more beautiful, keeping its natural form and encouraging significant growth. A little shearing around the outside may make it look pretty but isn't always healthy and can hide deeper issues that could lead to disease and death creeping in. You posted this video on my birthday - a good day to remember the regular pruning we all need to stay healthy and shaped according to how we are created to be. Thanks again for another thought-provoking video.

I found another company that did not require same transport and hours were better. I decided to change what the cause of the problem was and forget what was already done but focus on the life we were living right now. Completely freed me up to take as long as i wanted between the jobs to declutter and paint decorate reorganize our bedroom hopefully today will be productive too

I find that living the Christian life has a lot to do with what I am willing to do without or partake of. Am I willing to not be so obligated to worldly pleasures. Scaling back has helped that tremendously.

I had to reset my life as well, i sold my house and moved into a newlybuilt apartment, then after several years of anxiety it came just about right in the end, really i suppose i have had to reset my life several times over, not always easy to achieve, but i found with a bit of perseverence i more or less got there!

That's a great analogy! Like in a PC, I decided to "reboot" 4yrs ago when I filed for early retirement without considering sufficiency of separation pay. I needed to de-stress and have more peace. Tnx for this video, Sir Joshua!

Yes! After decluttering my home for a half year, I gain more confidence in myself. And I saw a long time friendship has changed. She had become quite religious. She was acting superior to me. that wasn’t good for my self-confidence. That was a friendship I had to declutter

I have been trying to make small but effective changes. it started with the scary tupperware cupboard that I've been holding on for too many years. Anytime we put or take anything out we have to open it really quickly and shut it or "stuff" will fall out. 😆

I just read this morning that donation places that are opening up are being flooded with donations. I was checking because I have things to donate, but didn't know if they would be accepted anymore. Guess people have been purging during this time and that's a good thing. Hoping that some of the good habits that we're adopting during this time continue when/if things totally open back up.

@@sct4040 That worked great for me too in Jersey - 5 minutes and it was gone. Here in an older community, not so much. I put a bike out the other day and the free sign eventually blew off and no one ever took the bike. I may wait til we have our development wide garage sale in October.

I am 36 and my wife is 29. It didn’t take long for us to realize that the American dream is a $1,000,000 ROTH 401K and not a 2,000 square foot house filled with stuff. In September last year we sold our $225,000 home and got rid of 10,000 pounds of material possessions. Today, we are able to save more, take better care of our health, and we have much less diversified responsibility, allowing us to focus on what is important in our life. In addition to following this channel, we also follow Dave Ramsey and The Brain Warriors Way. It took us about 5 years to turn our life around and it was hard work and stressful, but keeping the old ways was not an option. Even today, there is no going back to the old ways. Benjamin Disraeli said Nothing can resist a human will that will stake even its existence on the extent of its purpose; shortly put, I’ll do it or die.
