Wild camp in the Brecon Beacons with my new Chinook 1P tent.

- I just bought a Big Sky Chinook 1P tent, wanting something I can sit up in and which would stand up to decent winds. The forecast was for 25 Mph winds, with up to 30 mph gusts, but actually it was just a bit more than that. I thought about bailing - but stayed the night in the hope the tent would be ok.

Great video Roger. Had this tent on the list for a while so it’s nice to see someone showing it being put through its paces, definitely one to consider!
Still learning about the tent to be honest, but looks good so far apart from the reflective strips on the guyout points which are falling off. I do feel safe in it, which is the main thing. Thanks for watching.

You are welcome sir. It does handle wind well, though I do pitch it head into the wind now as that way it gives some shelter from wind in the porch (or vestibule as we now supposed to call it😃). Thanks for watching, Roger
The new tent did well in those conditions Roger, even it it was a bit of a stressful night. I am with you regarding wanting to sit up in a tent. I think its worth carrying a bit of extra weight to be able to do this.
Hi John, yes quite pleased with the tent, still early days of course. I was looking for something with a bit more structure than my X-Mid so I can feel more confident in windier weather.

@@thewanderingforester Yeah thanks a lot! My fault, hasn't watched a few of your previous videos, but sounds like you've taken to using a new mic or whatnot? At times it gives a weird noise and hissing, especially at the 13th minute. I do like the good old sound!

HI Chris, I'm not sure just how much of a window it really was in the end but was great to get out at last. Eventually just had to take the risk! In the 70 s we had a big influx of Scottish people who came down to port talbot for the rebuilding of a new town centre which was unwisely given approval by the then council which ripped the town apart all the character gone with the bulldozers it’s now soulless alot of the Scottish were bricklayers and mainly Glaswegian I know this as I also was a bricklayer to we all got together great, days

The trig is at SO 021 177 on the ridge to the west of the Neuadd valley. It's just past where you would descend into the valley if you were doing the southern horseshoe of Pen Y Fan. ATB, Roger
Nice tent tbh been looking for lightweight job as getting old and struggle carrying heavy tent msr exilir2 it's heavy for me anyway 😂
Interesting choice of tent, but looks like the Hilleberg soulo would have been a better choice for those conditions.
Yeah, a Hilleberg would be nice. 😃 I don't get out in weather often enough to justify the cost of one though. Being retired I have more choice on when I can go out - can wait for a weather window. Thanks for watching, ATB, Roger
