- Part 1: Teardown of a Philips / Fujifilm PCR Eleva S x-ray image scanner / digitizer. Also known as Computerized Radiography (CR), it fulfills the job of scanning a x-ray exposed image plate with a laser beam and extract each pixel illumination with a photomultiplier tube setup. It can scan 78 plate per hour with a general resolution of 3520 x 4280 pixels in 12 bits per pixel gray scale.

Thank you for protecting pet privacy.
Ace Ventura personally called me to say thank you. Also pets have owners, which were listed with full name.
Dang, these machines are wild. Way more complex than I would have thought. This is a totally different game than the digital radiography panels, but equally as costly looking.
I really wish to get by one of those panels, but they still have a expensive aftermarket, it won't land in a scrap yard :) yet.
Mad respect for those who troubleshoot these things!
It has a ton of logs that it can dump. The Machine iteself was running T kernel en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T-Kernel
Looking forward to seeing a good old teardown of expensive tech here. A looong time ago i did the same with a Kodak machine CR500. OMG i just checked it was 7 years ago, i feel old!
It is not that old videos that makes us old. It is the projects we bought parts for and never started that is the worst. Some of those boxes are now over 10 years old. My projects go straight into vintage, without it being intended :D
At my old job we had a similar data safety and security hammer
Man thats a lot of motors.
Видимо это устройство для считывания изображений, которое входит в комплект комплекса от Phillips. Они собирают из множества компонентов и не всё выпускается под их собственным брендом. Иногда встречаются абсолютно из одинаковых комплектующих собраны под разными марками.
The CCFL power supply seems to be using piezoelectric "transformers"?
Very interesting. I did not know about piezoelectric transformers in this application. Very efficient at low voltage and power. Just read this "Comparing magnetic and piezoelectric
transformer approaches in CCFL applications": www.ti.com/lit/an/slyt125/slyt125.pdf
Looks to me like the smaller PCBs in that big PSU are DC-DC convertors for thee 5V and 15V rails, and could be used separately off another 24V supply.
Though if your using opamps in your circuits, better to keep it as is.
The PMT assembly usually takes +/-15V for the op-amps on the signal from it.
It's not uncommon for former Hospital/Medical Center Xray equipment to end up in Vets.
I have noticed that software for vetenarians is clearly branded directly towards that. The software is written/configured only for animals. Regulations are simply less strict on exposing animals to radiation, than humans.
Wait, you want to tell us that you don't have a tail?
There is a reason that the camera is always above waist height...
