    I use a plain hose. Put the hose down in liquid as deep as possible. Put thumb over hose end. Pull out of liquid so that it is below the liquid level and release thumb. Should start the siphon with out issue. I use this method to siphon 5 gal. gas cans in to fuel tank of car, lawn mower, etc. Easy peasy.

    Great review!! I picked up a 10 footer for my Gerry can while towing my trailer. Your right. The pour spouts of the can suck. So with this. I can keep the can in the back in my Taco, slip in safety siphon and put the other end of hose directly into tank. Brilliant!!! No lifting heavy can, no spilling fuel. It’s perfect.

    I can’t believe you didn’t know, I’ve been using them for five or six years now. You’re the greatest thing since sliced bread. Don’t bother with the one from Harbor freight, it’s worthless. The one you have is a good one.

      Agree! I have the Harbor Freight version and just tried to use it for the 1st time. The plastic hose has 2 permanent kinks in it from sitting in packaging and the metal pump mechanism is absolute junk. Couldn’t siphon even a drop of gas. Don’t waste your money on the Chinese garbage people!

    Bryan, what size of that device will have a hose that fits into a modern car's fuel fill hole? I'm more interested in getting gas out of a can and into my car than the other way around. I think that even if you could get the "pump" end of the device to go into the fill hole, it wouldn't be able to get down into the gas. There are screens in there to thwart thieves and check valves to keep fuel from running out if the car overturns, so the days of siphoning gas FROM a car are over. I want the biggest size that will fit into my tank and the website doesn't give that info. Thanks bro.

    With a little coordinated thumb pneumatic check valving the tubing can become all you really need.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  Рік тому +1

      You lost me at "coordinated" ;-)

    • @WireWeHere
      @WireWeHere Рік тому +4

      Ah yes, I often leave a little puzzle, I'll explain.
      The fitting with the ball rattling around is just a check valve to only allow flow up and out from the liquid source. By moving the tubing up and down rapidly the check valve opens and closes as a little more fluid is pushed into the tubing with each downstroke. You can use your thumb on the outflow end to accomplish the same check flow function. Just remove your thumb during the downstroke and replace it on the tubing for the upstroke. The tubing will fill even quicker once you get your coordinated thumb-hand- arm timing perfected.
      Another method is to submerge as much tubing as possible, seal the outbound end, and lift. A partial vacuum forms which allows the liquid to be lifted with the tubing. Then just quickly lower the end you're sealing to below the liquid source level source and release the seal... A siphon will commence.
      Thanks for the reply. Please let me know if I'm leaving a clear enough picture behind. Actually I'll write a simple version shortly. Replacing our burst water main right at the moment. I'll be back.

    • @SurvivalOnPurpose
      @SurvivalOnPurpose  Рік тому +1

      As long as the eventual outlet is lower than the water you are siphoning. Basically, once the water makes it over the high point in the hose it pulls the rear of the water down.
