Thank you so much. I was using my breath to start the siphon to drain my aquarium. It was causing a very sore throat even with out actual contact with the water. Thanks for sharing even 7 years later.

5:44 ← Click it. Newer cars have a ball just like the shaker siphon does. It's there to prevent gas pouring out and lighting on fire in the even you roll your car and it end up upside down. This is common since the 1980's. Insurance institute requires it be on every car or at least something to do the job. The ball or flapper door is what blocks the siphon hose.

briansmobile1 no wonder Ive never had any luck siphoning gas out of a tank. I usually jump the fuel pump at the relay and disconnect the fuel hose in the engine compartment to get gas out.

⚠️ God has said in the Quran:
🔵 { O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous - ( 2:21 )
🔴 [He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not attribute to Allah equals while you know [that there is nothing similar to Him]. ( 2:22 )
🔵 And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant [Muhammad], then produce a surah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful. ( 2:23 )
🔴 But if you do not - and you will never be able to - then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.( 2:24 )
🔵 And give good tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow. Whenever they are provided with a provision of fruit therefrom, they will say, "This is what we were provided with before." And it is given to them in likeness. And they will have therein purified spouses, and they will abide therein eternally. ( 2:25 )
      ⚠️ Quran

Thx! Im doing this to water my plants and raised garden on my concrete balcony! Its alot of trips to the kitchen so I filled a large portable water jug on my balcony, used for camping normally so its huge. Im running a piece of hose from it and will water my plants much easier on a daily basis. Its set up high enough.

I live in an apartment and my garbage disposal quit working. It's been at least 6 months and we're on a third management team. I am setting up a repair appointment, again. Meanwhile, that side of the sink has slowly built up silt, decreasing drainage, and has finally come to a stop. I'm a grandma. I don't know why I hadn't thought of siphoning earlier but I remembered gravel siphoning a small aquarium. A big cup wouldn't work on the end so I wanted to check some options. Simple* A plain tube. I know some of you are laughing but my experiences and expertise are in other areas. LOL Anyhow, thank you. I can make it another week.

5th way is to let liquid flow from a tap from another hose into the hose used to sifon the liquid. Both end must b submerged. When it begins flowing n air is removed close the tap.

The U method is easier than dipping all off the hose under water. You bend the tube in a u shape, cover the end going in the tank with your thumb. Submerge the u-bend under water, lift up your thumb off, let the u fill up with water. leave that end under water still holding it, put you thumb back over it, move the rest of the u over the tank, unplug you finger and the siphon should start.

It's great for antifreeze too (like when you don't need to remove all of it). (I've had to replace the reservoir bottle on my '89 Cherokee and siphoned out just enough.)
Considering the shaker do-wah isn't considered a pump, you can get a siphon kit at most hardware stores with a one-way flap-valve and an accordion like thing you squeeze which draws out some of the fluid with its suction, instead of your mouth suction.
By the way, the only way you'll siphon out a basement is if you sink the far end of the siphon lower than the basement. Hopefully you live on a hill or the storm drain is below basement level!

First time I ever siphoned gas out of my truck to get a little gas for my lawnmower...I ended up breathing gas fumes that in turn caused me to 'Hiccup,' and I ended up swallowing a mouth full of gas. Now, this was five decades ago and although I have never done this again, I still taste that gas and will never forget what the dumb a$$ doctor told my young wife, "Don't let him smoke." I realize it's an old video, but, I still liked it and appreciate your time.

Hey Matt, I'm a huge fan from Connecticut. I've watched all of your videos multiple times (yes, every one. No, not in a creepy way.)
I wish I knew some of this stuff when I had my first XJ (1996). I sold it for a Subaru and no more than a year later, I was back in the Jeep Family, this time with a 2001.
If you guys ever need another person to help with videos, I know I'm far away but let me know haha. I feel we have a similar sense of humor and myself, being a professional technician, might be able to put my own twist on things and fill in the gaps (although, very rarely do you or Tim miss something).
Only half kidding. Thanks again for your channel.

Another application is overflowing sinks. On Friday night my kitchen sink started filling up with dirty dishwater from another apartment in the building. By Saturday it had poured up from the drain, overfilled the sink, and started flowing down the hallway. I picked up some tubing from Home Depot and ran a siphon from the kitchen sink to the bathtub to tide me over until the landlord called the plumber on Monday. Next time--hopefully there won't be one--I would like to try the one way check valve.
