    Thanks AJ! Your videos are so good, I've gone from wanting to ask my pro about WHERE to go to have my ancient $5 Ebay putter regripped to now planning to do it myself. Still looking into WHICH grip to choose, but thanks to you, I'm not worried about mounting the grip at all. Good job!

    I have little white stickers that I draw a line down the center. It’s rather easy to get a sticker on the hosel that matches the face of the club. Then I put it in the vise with the line exactly on top. I then put another sticker on top of the shaft near where the grip will end. You can fiddle with these until you are very happy with the indicators. I pull the club out of the vise and sight down the shaft in playing position, up at eye level, any position the allows me to make sure those stickers are on top of the shaft and that they are parallel to the club face. And then it’s tine to rock and roll.

    Have you ever tried a level? I used a bullet level when I replaced my putter grip and it worked out real well. Just leveled the head in the vice and then leveled the grip after installing, and you were right on target with using a lot of solvent.

      Never thought of that but I like it! Might give it a try.

    Thx really helpful. Now I understand why the back of my grip is not aligned. This video made it clear how to proceed with regripping in the future. Just to redo and make it right.

    Phantom 6 STR I laid it on the table and used a speed square to set the grip a perfect 90 degrees to the club face ... that putter is MONEY !!!

    For putters with offset heads, I use a flat table to check the grip. I'm a lefty, so the putterface will sit flat on the table and flat side of grip will be square up against the side edge the table. Kinda hard to explain but it's been flawless. I will incorporate this method as well and it's a pretty easy check.

    @MOBILECLUBMAKER Look into an angle cube, I just zero it on the putter face while it’s in the vice then sit it on the flat of the grip and twist it to 90 degrees, works perfectly

    I may be doing it wrong but when aline the putter grip and want to make sure it's square I use a 25 doller magnetic digital angle Guage and make the clubs face square to within a tenth of a degree to 90.0° lock the grip in place and then I place the Guage on the square part of the putter grip and while still loose I square the grip to the putter face and get that to withing a tenth of a degree of 0.0°

    I was surprised to see the results of a GolfSpy review of putter grip sizes and how statistically the testers aimed 0.5 degrees left and then hit it nearly 3 degrees left. Sounds like someone should try lining up the grip to the right to counter the left-hit tendency. And round grips were more accurate - so why have so many grips got flats on them and so few are available as round grips? Is round the next big thing, in the same way as big SuperStroke grips took off about ten years ago?

    • @EFGMC
      @EFGMC  Рік тому

      I think round does make a lot of sense since every other club in your bag has a round grip. I think the flat top is often a crutch, albeit not a very good one.

    Eyeballing the grip to the lines sure seems to leave a lot of room for small errors. And it seems small errors in alignment makes for a lot of missed putts. Is there any other more technical means to be sure the alignment of the grip and putter head are more accurately setup ? Would a level help when securing the putter in the vice to be sure it is perfectly upright?

    • @EFGMC
      @EFGMC  11 місяців тому

      You can level the face and then level the grip in a few places along it.

    Hey AJ. Do you have any thoughts on long putters? Making a long putter out of a standard putter, replace the shaft or add a extension? Thanks Jack

    Dude, use a set sguare on the face of the putter and line up with that, would be much easier wouldn't it?

    • @EFGMC
      @EFGMC  2 роки тому

      I've started using my phone now and that's the best method I come up with yet. Level app, square the face at 0, then set on top of the grip to get 90 degrees at different points on the grip.

    I have found that solvent doesn't work, or get slippery enough for me. I use mineral spirits I assume there is no long term issues with that? Love your channel! Tim

    • @EFGMC
      @EFGMC  2 роки тому

      No problem with that. Usually the first ingredient in golf grip solvent is mineral spirits, at least it used to be. May be synthetic now? Some people use gasoline, I don't recommend that though.
      It's also always helpful for the solvent, tape, etc to all be at room temp. Colder temps can cause issues getting things to work properly.

    Hi Aj, hope you are well. Quick question regarding putters. I have a 33.5 inch taylormade spider ex putter. Due to my stature or lack thereof I play it around 32.5 inches, gripping down 1 inch. I was considering adding a winn 15 inch 120g grip. Would I be best keeping same length and continue choking down, cutting an inch off or adding an inch to make it swing/balance better?

    • @EFGMC
      @EFGMC  Рік тому

      I don't think I would cut it down if you are going to add a longer grip. I probably would just keep it the same length, no reason to add length if you are just going to choke down anyway. Don't think the balance would really change much with an extra inch.

    Would like some help. Please. I own a putter wood by Sorensen bought a new grip for it. A chunky Champkey. But I can’t seem to get it over the end of the shaft to start. Seems like the end of the grip isn’t flexible and it’s cut in to the grip. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

      Do you have grip tape over the entire end of the shaft so no metal is showing?

      @@EFGMC no all was trying to do was to see if I could get a start. As you know the iron grips have a little stretch in them. But the putter grip seemed tight. Thank you.

    AJ, have you tried using an inclinometer?
    Look them up on eBay.
    I use an inclinometer to get the face of the putter vertical in my vice. When I slip the grip on, I then use 3 small spirit levels set at top, mid and bottom of the grip.
    All the tweaking is done in the vice.
    Another question: Have you ever installed a Golf Pride Whisper putter grip?
    I tried to fit one the other day that I'd had in my box for a couple of years.
    The coating immediately disintegrated. They seem to be manufactured in the same manner as Winn grips.
    From now on I will avoid Whispers and stick to conventional rubber.
