What is a Creative Director (Photographers this is for you)

- What is a creative director and why do many photographers call themselves creative directors? In fact, I'd say it's hurting you to call yourself a creative director at an earlier stage of your career. Photographers who have managed hundreds of sets, hired thousands of crew, managed millions of dollars. Then you are qualified to sit as a proper creative director.

I have a recommended gear page on Amazon. That's here www.amazon.com/shop/walidazami
A whole bunch of other things that I recommend on my Amazon store. BTW creators get a tiny % of sales when you click one of our links. We’re not getting rich from it, it just helps continue the free work for the community. The price you pay from the Amazon affiliates does not change.

This is a fantastic breakdown. As a film director, I still to this day after 12 years in the industry still differentiate myself from the creative director. They are a key partner and collaborator to elevate the work. Early on I made this mistake calling myself a creative director and paid the price isolating and very likely disqualifying myself from jobs I could have been a viable option for. Although titles are important…and you need to define yourself, I focus less on title now and more on relationships and where I can provide value. Often you’ll know what your capable of and a title very well may close more doors than they open. Got me amped sorry for the rant! You articulated what I’ve been thinking about recently so well!
Alexander thank you for this message! THIS IS IMPORTANT: Often you’ll know what your capable of and a title very well may close more doors than they open. I really appreciate how you laid that out and I agree. I've decided to really dump a whole lot of truth for the community and your message lets me know that was the right decision. Also your input is appreciated so please don't apologize cause opinions from the community are always welcomed.
Thank you for the video Walid. It's really helpful. 🌼🌼🌼

WELCOME!!
A creative director is like a Producer for a film. The Photographer is like the director. Often you'll see a director co-produce for a film.. but they don't take it on full time as they have so much to do as a director :)
thanks Jo

On my local model portfolio photography, I am the creative director and photographer. I hired the makeup artist and tell them how I want the makeup and hair (important for fresh face new models), I bought and brought wardrobe, accessories etc and styled the clothing. I direct the model (I'm a former international model), I find the locations. I light the scene. It might not be a big job but I am the creative director of the entire thing. More importantly, it was my marketing that brought the client to me. But, I can see where calling yourself a creative director could hurt you as a photographer if you want to work with ad agencies and do more commercial work.
Would you be OK if I respond to this with a UA-cam video? What you said is important and I really want to make sure photographers (future creative directors) position themselves the best way. Is it OK to use your comment in the video?
